^ I second this post. Hotel Penn is shaping up beautifully!

Btw, although this is rather off topic, did you know that pennen is a colloquial German verb that means "to sleep"? Makes the name of the hotel sound a bit like "Hotel Sleep" - quite appropriate!

It looks really good.. I always like the fact that you show us just a part.. sometimes a tiny little part, yet our expectations for that tiny thing are tremendous!! CANT WAIT FOR IT ALREADY!!!

It`s always a pleasure to see the favorite BAT Team working on something.

You`re doing a great Job on this Building. As for the Name, you could also call it "The Birchbox" because the Building houses a Company of that Name and i think it really suits the building.

I first thought the Roofjunk is still missing but as i saw at the original Building, the Roof is pretty empty compared to many other buildings of that size....only a large Patch of AC Units in the middle, some tiny Stuff scattered around the Roof and besidesd that nothing...One could evern play soccer on the Roof :D

Experimenting with roof materials... I can't get them right :/

Looking at the Google Maps satellite images, the tiles are much smaller, and the roof is somewhat darker. I think the grime looks very good so far. Not sure on this monitor, but I think the entire material may have a slight greenish tint to it - if so, then changing it to better match SimCity's usual colour palette would also help. However, since the grey background doesn't look so neutral on this monitor, either, the impression is probably due to the hardware I'm using and not to the material.

You mean some huge, glass skyscraper? :D Noo, once I'm done with this one I'm going back to my columns and cornices ;)

Oh no no, the material of the roof itself is good, it looks like the one from the photos when the building was brand-new :) I meant this large AC unit, or rather - the small space around it :/

Not too familiar with the building itself, but from what I can tell, it looks really good. I can never really complain or critique when I see the building seems on track. :P

I'd say, go a bit darker and also there is a thing where you enable highlights+FG only for reflections so you avoid metal material reflecting blue skies above lol :P

I am awaiting blinds and am also curious about what causes difference on the first floor.

Thanks, I took your advice. By the "difference on the first floor" you mean the "blind" panels on the ground floor? I forgot to replace some of the old ones with new version :)

Small update; the only thing that's left is to add trees and roller blinds.

I know it's a recreation and it's awesome and stuff

But I always have a bad feeling about those blank side walls. I, personaly, don't care since I don't play SC4, but city builders, especially those how do not plop a whole city but just play the game, will have problems with hiding a blank wall from a main avenue

Wow, lookin better every day.Are there any infos about the SC 4 size in tiles?

@Toothless:Well, just think of the Building as a large full Block W2W Building with Roads on three Sides, so technically it's just a W2... :D

The bare sidewall will be covered by a neighboring Building anyway...

I think you exaggerate the "problem" a bit :P If the building will grow in wrong place they can just demolish it and wait for something different to grow there (and I understand that this is how people build their cities). There's only one blank wall, it faces the back of the city block, people can easily put there some W2W building and it will look realistic.

Hotwheeler - Yes, 4x6 tiles :) It's between 5 and 6 tiles long so I'm going to make it 6.

Model is excellent. Though you might want to add another couple roof junk as it seems too empty right now.

Looking at the RL building I can see some HVAC on the right, some pipes, a BMU on rail that goes around the top part and another one that goes around the bottom part. A kind of service room and a few antennas to the left. You also might want to dirty up a bit the texture as it seems way to clean now.

I don't know if you had all of that planned, but you might want to give it a shot. Don't get me wrong, the model is already excellent and if I wasn't working exclusively on small towns now, I'd use it right when it's available.. But it might add some more life to an otherwise great model. :)

Looking forward to the night lights. :thumb:

Yes it is quite empty now but that's how it looked back in the 50's :) See for yourself:

Since I made the front elevation as it appeared originally I decided that I will make the rest of the building the same way :)

    Curtains anywhere? :O

Of course! What? You thought I would leave it as it is? :P:D

What is your plan for the interior? Will there be blinds? The part around HVAC does look too clean tho...

I'm not sure now, I was going to put furniture inside but it looks like the blinds will block the view anyway so... But you're right about space around AC unit, I'll work on it after I'm finished with the blinds :)

You can see the comparison with/without blinds on the front elevation:
