Welcome to my studio, below I put a list of my current projects and the top of my to-do list :) All sugestions and comments are welcome :)

Completed Projects:

Current Projects:

1. Pennsylvania Station & Pennsylvania Hotel
2. Bethesda Terrace and Fountain
3. Municipal Building

To-do list:

1. New York Public Library
2. Plaza Hotel
3. The Dakota
4. Ansonia Hotel
5. Columbia University Project
*

Of course sometimes I move something to the top when I'm tired of large complicated buildings and want to make something smaller but also nice ;)

* - There are of course some buildings not from NY on my list, but as it's NYBT thread I'm not mentioning them here.

"Is it not cruel to let our city die by degrees, stripped of all her proud monuments, until there will be nothing left of all her history and beauty to inspire our children? If they are not inspired by the past of our city, where will they find the strength to fight for her future? Americans care about their past, but for short term gain they ignore it and tear down everything that matters. Maybe… this is the time to take a stand, to reverse the tide, so that we won't all end up in a uniform world of steel and glass boxes." - Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis.

    Thanks guys 4.gif

cmdp123789 - When i said "a lot of fun" I meant it's "a bit" more complicated than in other buildings 2.gif But anyway thanks for your contribution.

Still working on Custom House, today I made mansard windows, it was a lot of work but as you can see on the picture they are not very visible 15.gif

You have picked up some wonderful buildings to model, Seraf!

And it seems like you're doing an excellent job at modelling them 29.gif!

That's a pity that some of the details won't be clearly visible, but honestly i think you're doing a wonderful job in finding a balance between realism and in-game appearence.

Francis90b - Thank you 4.gif Sometimes I wonder if I put a bit too much details into a game model 9.gif

gio10469  - Thanks, well... I think it is more passion than patience, I love architecture - especially beaux-arts. When I study photos, plans, descriptions of building they allow me to get to know the building and what the architect wanted it to be 4.gif

Little update, I've been busy lately, especially because I have to renovate my room 2.gif

    Lovely details.

Is the angled side going to line up with FAR or something? I would be inclined to make all the sides orthogonal unless there is a significant reason not to. It makes the building more accessible in game and, therefore, much more useful.

Seraf, I like the shape and see no good reason to make it anything other than true to RL. If you stray from RL then it may create problems for anyone trying to make an accutrate recreation of downtown, and there are way too many boring boxes on the stex, we need more interesting buildings. 4.gif

I agree with Todd. Following RL in this respect is a bit counterproductive. It will be a bithch to place on a lot and consequently in game. Paul, how are you planning to make "accurate" recreation with a grid system of SC4? You would still have to adjust to the 45 degree turnings.

That detail is of a caliber I am not worthy to describe. Great work!

Hmm... A FAR-angled building. We need more of those. Right now, I think FAR is pretty worthless except in rural applications with RHW-2.

    Great work!

    Beautiful work as always Seraf.

The angled walls are due to the street layout, whatever Seraf decides to do is fine with me. Though, many buildings in the Lower Manhattan are angled in ways that unfortunately don't fit on the grid and have to be adjusted for SimCity.

As for the scale I can't tell if it is accurate or not as there are no other in-game objects to refer to. Though, many Beaux Arts buildings are scaled up to give a grand, imposing presence among the streetscape. Here's a streetview:

Good job. I envy you how you make these details. Historic building in New York are very impressive.

    GuerrilaWarfare - Thank you.

SimHoTToDDy - In fact, making all walls rectangular would make my work simplier, but I think this wouldn't be right. It's also impossible because of the glass dome over the rotunda that fills the yard.

SimFox - Thanks, may I ask what exactly are you confused about? 4.gif

Sgt Pepper - Yeah, thanks. I also think there is a lot of buildings that are square-shaped and few that are not.

Aaron Graham - Thank you 4.gif

PBGV103 - Thank you, I'm glad to hear that you like the original shape ^^

    citiesxlfan42 - Thanks 4.gif

Hanson784 - Thank you, I hope this non-standard shape of the building won't be a big problem.

Parisian - Hah I don't know if I could teach anyone. 2.gif I'm just trying to use anything I find in architecture books. I agree that Gilded Age buildings in America (especially in New York) are impressive.

I took a short break from Custom House and did some work on Metropolitan. This wonderful building deserves to be finished.

    render-26-3.jpg

I wasn't sure what to do with the roof, in reality there is a roof-top addition with a restaurant, but I'm pretty sure that this isn't original structure, so I replaced it with certain amount of roof junk.

    Looking good!

You might want to add a "floor" to the courtyard on the side. The game's shadows aren't exactly fantastic plus a tangible background would help bring out the details in your ornate gate. I would hate to see that gate get obliterated by poor compression, worse anti aliasing, and goofy shadows.

Beautiful work, just be sure to double check your hues and general appearance in a in game shot to see how well it fits. You may have to add some blue or pink to the "white" stone/brick in order to get it to blend in well.

SimHoTToDDy - I already added a "floor" on courtyard, I think it looks better now, and thank you for your advice on texture color, without it I'd probably wonder why doesn't my building match the others Thank you! "> Vlasky - Thank you "> Sgt Pepper - Thanks! I think it is one of the most important buildings to recreate 5th Ave/CP East

Aaron Graham - Thank you, I wasn't sure if this roof would come out right but I think it's pretty good. 4.gif

I also think that Metropolitan Club is finished. I will upload it to STEX as soon as I finish exporting.

    Thanks guys!

I made some modifications according to  simHoTToDDy's suggestions. Here are some results:

    render-33-2.jpg

    render-32-4.jpg

I daylight view only the wall color is relevant (roof and courtyard will be like in previous versions).
