Alright, I'm stuck.

Decided to widen my highway out of town by giving it a median. No big deal, although the 2nd bridge was more hassle than it was rewarding.

With that said ... can anyone give me an idea on how to resolve this?

I'd like to create a free-flowing interchange, rather than a diamond, and all the while maintaining the toll booths. Sadly, I don't think I'm going to get everything I want.

That is going to be difficult. However, you could create a trumpet interchange to end the north-south freeway (the one that narrows to two lanes). This would require the creation of additional land to the south (land reclamation) to accomodate the loop ramp. More land reclamation to the west can enable the toll booths to be kept. It will be a tight squeeze, but I think it can work, provided the rail line is diverted elsewhere..

It's been a long while since someone posted Cityscape pictures.

Two interchanges from me then ...

I think that I've never shown a Pinavia interchange in this thread before.

Okay well let me post something, as I have not in a while.

Not sure where I came up with this mess, but it's worth the 40 minutes I spent working on it today.

interchange7.jpg

Suggestions? Anything I could improve with it?

(And for those of you who will ask, sorry this is not in one of my CJs. This is in my offical sandbox region)

With the Pinavia, did you copy/paste and rotate the pieces? I understand how to duplicate nodes, but I can't seem to rotate them.

Nathan, your junction looks fine.... Not sure what I can critique other than the two loop ramps being radical opposites. Also you can make the footprint of the larger loop a bit smaller if you curve it closer to the road. You could also add a couple flyovers but that would make your junction larger.

Anyways one from me of a diamond-like interchange on a expressway-class RHW. (built to a lower standard compared to my freeway-class RHWs). I don't think my sims quite know how to use it yet (zots :P)

Below is part of the the largest freeway expansion project in Thessalonian history. This took me several sessions over a period of about 3 days to perfect. Due to the large image size, I placed it in a spoiler tag below.

It is called Project TREX (Transportation Expansion, named after a major project that took place in real life). Rather than one interchange, several were re-built here to accomodate express and local access lanes. At its widest, there are up to 17 total lanes.

Shown below is Phase 1 in Meteora. Interchanges include two major arterials and a handfull of smaller ramps to provide easy access to industrial zones and to facilitate switching between express and local access lanes.

Some thoughts I have after completing this:

    • I don't have all the signage and lane markings that I want because of limited availability (I am hoping the next version of RHW when it comes out will help with this). As for signage, I have a few sets made by Maarten and I am open to suggestions.
    • Currently the express lanes end at both borders. Anyone have any experience taking express/collector lanes across multiple city tiles? I am familiar with the neighbour connecter pieces of course, but having two sets of lanes for each direction may produce undesirable results.
    • Below is a regional view of the project, green being this first phase and yellow being the future scope of the project.

    Very nice work AIX!

Did some expansion with the junction I showed in my last post. New overpasses and auxiliary lanes were added to the RHW expressway.

Unfortunately, there seems to be no way to rotate a group of nodes, at least I haven't found any yet. :(

I often wished for such a command, as it would have been much easier to create the 6-way interchange I've shown above. Also, a possibility so save selections as node groups would have been very convenient. As it is now, it's sometimes a bit cumbersome so select some specific nodes, especially when there are multiple nodes on different levels on the same coordinates.

I must ask, how did you get those nightlights in Cityscape? I've never been able to accomplish this before. Also, here's an older one of mine:

It's been a long while since someone posted Cityscape pictures.

That inspired me to take the default map and modify the freeway interchange into a trumpet interchange.

The cityscape interchanges have so nice curves!

This is the smoothest i could get in sim city but does it count as a Pinavia?

I'm loving the look of those pinavia interchanges, they flow so very well, shame they can't be recreated in SC4 to the standards of cityscape, nice interchange though Kruemel95 :)

I'd be careful about zoning that close to RHW like that; Most of the RHW starters are made of Road, and if they're directly touching any sort of zoning, the end result would be RHW giving unwarrented or awkward zoning access that could either work or not.

Continuing with the Cityscape theme, if you count toll plazas as interchanges...

Anyways, here's my (slightly rough) recreation of the toll plaza on I-294 (Tri-State Tollway) in Justice, Illinois (southwest of Chicago). I know the surrounding residential areas haven't been included. But anyway, here's a satellite view of it. I built this using March 2012 Google Maps satellite images.

    tollway04.jpg

The closeups (including drivers-eye views) are in the Spoiler below.

    tollway01.jpg

The southbound toll booth during the morning rush hour.

    tollway02.jpg

The northbound toll booth during the evening rush hour.

    tollway03.jpg

The toll plaza looking south at 2 A.M.

The rest of the photos are from drivers-eye view.

    tollway05.jpg

    Approaching the southbound toll booth.

    tollway06.jpg

About to give 80 cents to the state of Illinois.

    tollway07.jpg

    Merging back onto I-294.

    tollway08.jpg

About to pass through an open road booth.

Anyways, the median street lights, the toll booths and overhead signs all were originally Sketchup models created by 3D Warehouse user "Best4Google918". BTW, this was the first time in two years that I have used the last Cityscape version before Pixelactive was acquired by Navteq.

I like the Cityscape pictures but just remember that that this is City Building Concepts in the SimCity 4 Players forum.

City-Building Games is a more appropriate forum for them.

I was thinking the same thing earlier. I like em too, just tired of seeing them here in this thread.

Here is a new interchange I am working on. The goal with this is to provide access from a TLA-5 Arterial to a N-S running 6c expressway with HOV. The expressway will be 100% managed access At completion of construction there will be toll booths at both entrance and exits for this interchange, The overall goal of this expressway is to provide a complete loop around my CBD which just so happens to be Manhattan island.

That's one heck of a turbine! I built one awhile back that was a ground level/elevated turbine. It was ok looking but not near as good looking as yours (mine didn't have smooth curves due to lack of puzzle peices)

    Thanks!

Not the best I could do with the space I had ( between two rivers and a mountain...) I would have loved to use the FARHW a bit more on the two other directions. Also where there are MIS, RHW 4 (think that's the name) would have looked better imo, but no place to use there with the smooth curves as far as I know. :P
