The round-a-bout stack interchange looks REALLY cool, but I see myself only using that for lower-speed expressways because it looks a little tight. It would be nice if the diameter of the round-a-bout was larger.

Here is a fully-directional "T" interchange located in a mostly-rural area

I whipped up the below prototype interchange to try and make a large radius round-a-bout for RHW. I was inspired by the round-a-bout pictured upthread and how I feel that it needs to be much wider. This isn't in a functioning city, hence the lack of development or eye candy.

round.jpg

My first real attempt at a freeway round-a-bout. It can of course be adapted into other widths. Rather than a pre-fab round-a-about, I would like to see more diagonal on/off-ramps that could be placed at the curves to make it appear more smooth in the next RHW release.

    Nice work guys!

AIX: I would recommend another set of MIS ramps to act as 'right turn lanes' so this traffic doesn't have to enter the roundabout. And yes diagonal connections are a bit of a challenge to make.

-Have you considered making a tutorial for the RHW interchange guide? A design like that would be quite useful here: https://www.sc4devotion.com/forums/index.php?topic=14067.0

This thread is a little dead. Time for a triple post showcasing my first RHW/RHW interchange from May 2008. It was also the first junction with full UDI capability (no transitions to subway networks for tunnels and that sort).

It was made with RHW 2.1 and Shadow Assassin's awesome Euro textures. Too bad they don't exist for more recent RHW releases.

And a video of the junction. Quality is a little low, but keep in mind this was from mid 2008! Youtube didn't even have HD playback then.

So unless you have been following my CJ lately, you may not know what i have been working on. Here's some new interchanges from my region:

(Believe it or not, this first one was a standard Maxis diamond)

    rhwvolution-1.jpg

    rhwvolution-2.jpg

    rhwvolution-3.jpg

(Note:I did not add a RHW6S diagonal splitter due to slope constraints in the last photo). Also, sorry for the poor image quality: i'm still tweeking the graphics settings for SC4(My computer got reset the other night)

I like the Trumpet one.. so compact!

I have started to build my next 'realistic' RHW interchange. Only difference this time is you can see me rage/mess up in real time. :P

You can also see and chat with me when I'm working on the stuff live here: http://www.twitch.tv/haljackey

It may not look like much, but the final results can be awesome. Here's a couple past examples (click them for full size)

Protip: check your starter proximity next time. They tend to mess up things, especially when you have starters over RHW stretches

Oh looks good Durfsurn. Too bad it isn't a complete junction though :P

@ Mandelsoft: yaya :P. I'm just playing around for now. Trial and error is my style. :P

    What is missing?

The term "Hyperbolic Stack" comes to mind, but you're missing the west-to-south and east-to-north connection.

I like that name! I might post an edited version of the interchange later!

lol interesting name. Yes you are missing two connections but the thing still looks great!

A little 'teaser' of something I'm working on. Still tweaking it and will post the whole thing soon.

Here's one inspired by Haljackey's video. Please tell me what it is called! :P

    [...]

And one with the pathing so you can see better through the trees:

    interchange-Aug27061349238241.jpg

It's some sort of weird directional hybrid of an interchange. Hyperbolic stack may be a good name for it, or in the case of a partial interchange a "hyperbolic partial stack". Your interchange is a partial interchange, as I demonstrate here:

Fascinating, and beautiful too. It looks like a turbine interchange with one of the directional ramps replaced by a loop ramp.

Anyway, I have something to show. This is the area containing the interchange between the E7-2 road and Smyrna Avenue, in the city of Smyrna. Both roads are heavily trafficked. Smyrna Avenue was originally a surface street, and the interchange was originally a folded diamond. However, due to huge traffic demand these roads mutated into heavy-duty expressways. E7-2 expanded from 4 lanes to 8 lanes, and Smyrna Avenue got a grade separation and a diamond interchange. The original movements handled by the folded diamond's at-grade intersection were transferred to the intersection you see right of the diamond interchange. One of the folded diamond's ramps was converted into a loop ramp to provide access to the westbound lanes of E7-2.

    1-275.jpg

Below is a picture of the grade-separated stretch of Smyrna Avenue:

    2-2325.jpg

I'll also throw in a bonus picture. Further down the E7-2 road, there's a rather ordinary SPUI, but I think the cosmetic pieces provide a beautiful sight:

My new interchange. It's a T-Intersection with exits to the developing industrial area.

Alright, throwing my hat into this development again ...

    rivermededec24213494886.jpg

Now, while it doesn't look like much, that's because it's not. I got frustrated with my first attempt, so I built this just so I could have something to connect my highways. Then, after some pencil sketches and looking for inspirations here, I build this ...

    rivermedefeb13511349676.jpg

Just the way I like it ... no sharp corners and no surprise lane drops. My only beef is that the movements to/from the bottom and right-hand side should probably be both 2-lane ramps, because I plan to make another identical interchange just out of view, as well as the fact that my next few cities will be in that direction.

I had initially wanted to make a 4-way interchange, but I didn't have enough room to play with (the edge of the map is just barely visible in the top right).

That is super, Hal! I have tried to build this interchange, and it never really went far. :P

lol, thanks! Got a pic of your half-done attempt of that? I'd like to see! :P

Video tour of the junction just finished! :ohyes:

Possibly... it may be in a backup folder around somewhere on my computer. I just have to figure out where it was... it was over a year ago last I tried. :P
