Just made this giant. The image looks choppy at left because I pasted imagery from the adjacent city tile to illustrate the 8 lanes of expressway crammed along the avenue. The avenue serves local traffic while the expressway is strictly to serve a large business district not shown here.

This is my first interchange that I'm posting on ST

It's not that pretty, but it had to be compact, considering the surroundings.

I know that it could use land slopes, but again, compactness was key here.

what do you think?

P.s. sorry for the black bar at the bottom

Compact interchange in an urban area, might have a lower speed limit on these roads

Finally got this done. Some form of a spaghettified T-Interchange with access to the highways from level streets. Yes, I forgot the dang grid.

Untitled1_zpsb0fe4a66.png

So I just redid this for a higher capacity version. Got rid of the whimsical little one-lane roundabouts that deliver into the city, it seems much more fitting right now seeing as how this will be very close to downtown:

This time I even turned the grid off! And forgot to turn shadows on, oh well. :D

Unless that roundabout in the upper left is for some future development, I'd ditch it in favor of some nice sweeping curves (I can't see any reason to have that sharp of a turn in the middle of nowhere. I also think the one center right could be better planned. It just seems like a flow intrusion to the four-lane it intersects. Once off the highway an intersection doesn't seem too out of place.

On the other hand...I've driven on roundabouts in Italy. I hate roundabouts. Or maybe that was just the Italian drivers.

    Wow, fantastic work everyone!

A 3-in-1 interchange I have been building is now complete in it's raw form:

    VsnMS4A.jpg

    Zoom out:
    aEfZ2jN.jpg

North-south road is an expressway (can have short entrance/exits and sharp curves), east-west road is a freeway (must have accel/decel lanes and smooth curves).

Also, I noticed while stitching this together that there was a small direction reversal for the WB to SB ramp. That has now been fixed: https://i.imgur.com/Kp7r2uF.jpg

Yes, there will be development on the left side of the interchange, so the roundabout up there will remain for the time being.

The other roundabout I thought was a pretty good solution when traffic volume to and off the highway picks up. It's a three-lane (which I know is only eye-candy, but whatever :D) and it's of course a bit of an intrusion, but during rush hour, when lots of people go on the highway or lots of them get off it, the flow will probably be better with a roundabout than with a large intersection. I'll take into account what you said though and maybe I'll look over it again.

Meanwhile, I HAVE DONE AN ART:

    FenderCrossSemitreedAerial_zps8f09f5a7.p

Completely unrelated to the other one and a couple of miles away, this started as an experiment and I'm really liking the way it turned out. In these rural areas, footprint was not a major concern, avoiding high ramps that would disfigure the landscape was, however, so the interchange relies mostly on tunnels and uses the natural terrain grades to do so. Here's a close-up of the center section:

    FenderCrossCenterSection_zps1f94be51.png

I've never worked with inside exits/entrances to highways before, so that was also an experiment, but I think it worked out pretty well. It's unconventional and I guess not a planners nor a motorists dream come true, but it was the most painless way to deliver to the distributer road for right turns, without any wrap-arounds or long stretches of MIS over the left-turning lanes.

This is my third interchange, getting smooth curves to work better this time around, but could still be better...

Been quite some time since I've posted an interchange here (at least not since the old page flip bug...), so I might as well start with something simple.
    NesXaXv.png
    And some more details:

    7IDV1Vp.png

(Yes, that is a Road over Ave puzzle piece... It's either this, dip the RHW-4 down another 7.5 meters, increase the right-of-way at the side of the RHW-4, or wait until NAM 32 and better RHW over RHW override support when you trim the Flex-OST starters...)
    P6OY4Kj.png
    x1KYRLg.png

Feedback is always appreciated, though I'm rather proud of this little interchange.

Went full on crazy with this clover thing. After short brain stom I have an idea how to get rid of those ugly EMIS bridges, but don't know yet how to squeeze it :D

WIP and that's why there's grid on.

    Any ideas? I would appreciate.

My only suggestion would be to move your N-S highway a bit to the west, let's say, some 3 or 4 plots. I can see a curve to the west on the top of the picture, therefore, this wouldn't be too out of place. This way, you could gain additional space so you wouldn't need to have your MIS cross the river. Although I must admit that this will cost much money.

Nay, I have a 'great' idea in mind what to do with this - simply destroy the whole thing and build whole network from scratch. no more clovers in this city tile :)

As soon as I'm done with this I'll share it's final form. And one more thing - river stay as it is now (I'll undo terraforming...)

Data7: Ever thought about curving your river to the right? Will give you more room to make your interchange.

I am working on retrofitting a interchange to prep for development. It is also the first time I use the FARHW/avenue intersection piece!

Haljackey: As I said in my previous post - i want to keep the original look of my region. And I have an idea how to re-arrange it without making huge interchange ;) Perhaps I'll have to terraform west river bank a little bit anyway...

About pic of Your's: great use of FAR pieces! it has now more character imo :)

    Tekindus: that's neat!

Looks much better now, especially with the FA RHW pieces :) However, I don't want to park my car on the parking lot of that building...

    lol, I fixed that now!

Anyways here it is completed (click images for full size.)

    sf5qI4n.jpg

It was part of a bridge widening project: now 12 lanes.

-The water is murky due to a water pollution problem I am fixing.

    H7Ycbgo.jpg

The interchange on the other side had to be retrofitted as well, nothing as crazy though.

    F3hwR2j.jpg

And a bonus image to the east A little tight in terms of weave space but at least both EB lanes don't leave at once.

    vRnDanH.jpg

And what the heck, a bonus image to the west: daytime fireworks anyone? :P

I started working on this intersection and I think I've let it get out of hand... I've since added on and changed some exits and entrances around... Any Thoughts? :golly:

Just needs development and you're set :)

In the meantime, I finally found a way to build this interchange I've been planning for a while.

     tumblr_mtth90aI8C1rcw94uo1_1280.png

Now all I need to do is MMP it and surround with suburbs. Some signage and cosmetic pieces would help too.

Looks nice yoshi, I'd love to see a picture with the grid on though, just to get a view of the elevation changes.
