Still not quite finished with beautification but its coming along. I added an extra access road to the left with a weird diamond interchange as you can't go all ways. I still need to finish off signage, pond maintenance (my "painting" skills are rubbish) and lighting but expect a good result (I hope :) )

And no the ponds aren't finished (it is built in a swampy area that's why all the ponds)

@Haljackey: Nice pictures. Reminds me of a major project done in Denver with I-25 a few years ago.

I do wish there was a decent concrete texture for RHW (instead of asphalt). I always thought concrete just looked better.

Shame on me because I spent on this more than 1 hour. It look raw and unfinished, but I'm still learning how to make properly looking interchanges with RHW. IMO utility comes first, then there is place for eye-candy stuff (waste of time for me ;p)

Moreover - before I made this interchange there was highly congested Ave over RHW2.

I wouldn't worry so much about the amount of time you spent making the interchange. This is not a race! Did you enjoy playing the game while making the design? That's what it all comes down to, especially if you learn a thing or two :P.

Indeed. Although I can and often do construct interchanges pretty quickly, I've been known to spend days tinkering with them. Most of the time they have to be upgraded the next day - a loop ramp there, a directional ramp here, and upgrading the ramps to 2 lanes can make a once-simple interchange into a sprawling monster.

I would also never live stream the construction of my interchanges. That's an intimate and private moment that is between me and my game.

I actually did it a few times, live-streaming my interchange construction and it shows that it is a trial-and-error process. Episode 9A of my live stream shows I made a cloverleaf interchange design which turned out to be ugly and not all too satisfying, so in-between streams, I've totally revised the design and got a decent looking cloverleaf out of it and showed the result in episode 9B. Sometimes, it's better to sleep over a night and then revisit it the next day. You can spend time then rethinking your strategies, maybe finding a way better solution altogether.

Just my two cents from a RHW interchange construction expert ;)

    Best,

    Maarten

Damn, I forgot to write down, that I'm very proud of myself after doing this pretty simple interchange. I've learned few new thing about RHW.

I enjoyed rebuilding the wole avenue from residential area to this point very much :)

Just a random thought to throw in here.

One of my interchanges has a series of compact off ramps. So much so, there's no room to "place" an overhead structure that makes sense!

Now, I leave a 1 tile wide space for a median, whether that be used for widening, lighting, or transit is up to a future me to decide.

Why not design overhead signs to be "placed" in the median instead? I'd support the motion. Anyone else?

I actually wrote out a HWY Singage Signage Act, because I have bad short term memory, and I wanted a uniform lookj across my cities. I leave two, I like a speed sign after an on ramp, and a gantry before an off ramp.

Edit: You must sing while driving on any freeway in The Region of Welmont.

Not really an "interchange" but this is a common on/off ramp in my cities. This is Centre St North (Provincial Hwy 2) @ 6th Ave N. Centre St used to be TLA 5 that got upgraded.

    WelmontCity-Jan17201350613651.png

Centre St N (PR2) @ 17 Ave N (17 Ave NW is the northern section of PR5, prior to a new interchange.

    WelmontCity-Jan17201350617938.png

And with the new interchange, not sure if Im going to keep it yet, not really what I was wanting though.

    CCXXII,

I realize that it's probably got something to do with the game's limitations, but I bet buses would high-center like crazy at these points.

Otherwise, if I was at all into symmetry...nice interchange.

if you move the roundabouts one tile further away from the freeway you can make a more realistic hill, but the ream ramp has to be one further back, and I needed to save some space. I call those hills clutch burners.

If any one has any ideas about the new interchange for PR2 @ PR5 Id love to hear them. North of PR5, PR2 (Centre St N) doesnt connect to its neighbour, because theres mountains right on the other side of the city limit.

That's what happens when you don't have a proper slope mod.

Would a slope mod work that close to the freeway? Heres one from my old region, using (cant remember) slope mod. It still gave me an unrealistic slope where the road goes under the freeway.

Actually, with a slope mod, you'd wanna make an even bigger interchange because the slopes of all of the networks are more gradual, but that's typically more realistic, anyway.

Ennedi Slope Mod. That's what I typically use.

Art128 said I should try RHW. So I did. It's pretty cool, I like it :D

This was my very first interchange. Nothing special. But my first one. So I'm proud of it :P

    rhw01.jpg

And here's my second try. It wasn't a good idea to start with a diagonal highway. Too complex for a beginner like me... :D But I think it looks good now after a couple hours of work:

Don't know how long it's been since I was last here, but more progress photos from my RHWvolution project in my CJ:

    This was a Maxis diamond:

    rhwvolution-4.jpg

This was a Maxis T. This was difficult to construct iniatlly due to slope problems.

    rhwvolution-5.jpg

Also a Maxis diamond. This one was hard due to the railline, but I improvised with my skills.

Could I offer up this suggestion for your "clutch burner" hills? ...

    rivermedejul17531351145.jpg

I tried to put the roads and the elevated rail in the right spots. Hopefully I got the measurements right.

As for your PR2 and PR5 interchange ... My only option is to convert it into a trumpet interchange, with the loop in the top-right corner. You can also alter that into a 1/2 parclo, 1/2 diamond in order to maintain local access, if you so desire. That way, you can likely spare the EL-to-subway conversion, as well as finesse things a bit by having a RHW-6 between the interchanges to increase capacity/realism.

Thanks :) To be honest, I seldom stroll over to SC4D and have visited the interchange guide about twice. Ironically, I have recommended it to many other players asking questions, but I have never seen the entire guide myself.

Edit: I misread your comment about following the Interchange Guide, but my point still stands :)
