    Way to go!

I'd like to ask you if you could add some grime on the building.

I must admit that i drool when i see an old, ornate building slowly sinking and fading in a thick layer of grime and dust..But the voices inside my head told me that i am perfectly normal, so i don't worry :P.

Actually i'm not really suggesting something as extreme as the thick layer of smog that seems to cover every single building in this pic:

    1a34782u.jpg

But a somewhat subtler layer of dirt that could give the building a "worn & weathered appearence".

    What do you think?

EDIT: Oh, and dark & grim notwithstanding, i'd like to ask if you could make that the red part of the front facade a little darker.

Spectacular. Reminds me of a Jason's Briscos Depatment Store which I loved and still do. I used to use it on every second block :) I see history will be repeating itself. :) What is the skylight reflecting anyway? Meh, doesn't matter really, what a charming building! btw, whatever happened to DarkNite releases of your's and Jason's gorgeous buildings? I remember seeing Briscos somewhere in DarkNite. And, nofunk, how is recovering files from your laptop going on?

Is the door for the roof access hidden/obscured by the little shadow in the corner near the skylight? If so, my old BATter eyes aren't doin' too well...

This one looks good. Like Francis90b said, a little grime wouldn't hurt it either, but then I am biased in that regard...do what thou wilt.... :)

I disagree about the grime. I don't think every building needs to be flush with looking disgusting. I don't mind my fair share of grimy buildings myself, I use them all the time, but I like to have dirty districts and pleasant districts that look like people are actually taking care of them.

The building is coming along great, Nofunk.

Thanks everyone for your great comments and encouragement!

Francis90b & Madhatter106: The brick and limestone materials on the front actually have a bit of noise to them. I think the roof might actually have been the main reason the building looked so "clean" to you guys, so I added some more noise and grime to it. Let me know if this helped. And there is a roof access door that is indeed obscured by the little shadow in the corner. You can see it in the east view.

Vlasky: The skylight is reflecting the sky some, but what you are actually seeing is the INSIDE of the building!

    preview21.jpg

Also, I have really exciting news! (Vlasky, this might excite you the most!)

Does anyone know what this is???

    old_hd2.jpg

If any of you guessed the desktop contents of my old laptop, you would be correct! MAJOR thanks go to PBGV103 for recommending a hard drive enclosure: I extracted the old internal hard drive from my non-functioning laptop, put it in the enclosure, and as luck would have it, it works! I now have access to my old WIPs again, including Cadillac Tower, the row houses I was working on, and 333 E. Chicago! It'll take me some time to work through them, but they are no longer lost! (And yes, Carew Tower has also been recovered!)

Hope everyone is doing well! :)

    17.gif:O OMG OMG OMG :O17.gif

    badnokadonk-badonkadonk-donk-donk :D

Boy-oh-boy am I excited or I am excited.

Truly amazing and great news! What a start of the day! Now next goal, release them all before the Trixies :)

My concern with skylight was that from both angles it had that yellowish spot, that I thought was reflection, but since it is inside of the building, it's mk 18.gif

Now about my BATs that you're working on! I am like extra happy and all about them all, but I really really am looking forward to Seeing Carew Tower and its badonkadonk textured, and one more thing, I see that you have DarkNite and MaxisNite files, are those max files or exported ones? :O:)

    Nice job, Nolan!

I like the latest preview , but personally i believe that the ground floor still needs some more noise and dirt.

Today I was just walking towards the railway station, and i noticed the grime on this lovely neoclassical building.

It received it's last coat of paint in the early 2000s, yet you can see that smog is already beginning to stain it's lower floors.

The ground floor is probably the area of a building that gets dirty quicker.

EDIT:My pic on the left, your last preview on the right.

    e515419a.jpgpreview21.jpg

I admit that i've "exxagerated" the amount of grim...

I did add soot in three areas, ground floor, mid floors and top cornice, based on some things i've noticed while looking at sooty buildings.

I did also add a lot of dirt on the skylight.

I'd aim for something between the left and the right pic.

The extra tweaking on the roof texture has definitely helped. It did indeed look a bit too "clean." And rooftops do get their fair share of the brunt from the elements and the weather. This one is looking really good.

External hard drive enclosures are like gifts from angels - I had a laptop fail on me a little over a year ago, but with less than twenty bucks and a screwdriver, I had my data back in half an hour. :)

I've been looking through this whole thread, there's some amazing work. What a cool time to get back into playing Sim city 4 after so many years. I really like the rowhouses, I'm looking foward to them!

Vlasky, I can tell that you're excited: you referenced the Pointer Sisters! :golly:

Francis90b: Thanks for the visual. I'll take another look at it and see what I can do.

Everyone else: Thanks for the comments and support!

Quick update: I am working on the night lights for the BAT above, which from now on will be known as Finch & Co. I don't have much left to do -- just some tweaking -- and it'll be ready for export!

I have also dusted off this little gem, courtesy of my recovered hard drive. Do you guys remember 333 E. Chicago? It's a building from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Everything is done, I just have to test it in the game and prepare it for the STEX!

More to come! Hope everyone is doing well! :)
