The ultimate lurker here - nofunk your buildings always look beautiful! Especially the medium rise W2W dense urban ones. I came across a couple of photographs on Shorpy which I thought I needed to share

http://www.shorpy.com/node/8950 and http://www.shorpy.com/node/8949

Fantastic low-rise buildings aswell! Keep up the great work. I'll be lurkin' ya!

Hey guys! Long time no see. 1.gif

Well, as far as cleaning off my plate goes, I've released the Hamilton Avenue Shops 2, and am almost finished with Cadillac Tower. I have more on my docket of course (badonk... badonk...) and I promise I will revisit those projects...

...but I just can't help myself!

Ok, more of these, I love it when you make these types of buildings, we really need more of these, I know I do. Great job so far on the new creation.

Thanks everyone! I'm glad you like it. It's coming along pretty quickly too, so it shouldn't be too much of a distraction after all.

    Hey all!

After another long, dry spell in my BAT thread I'm back with some updates!

The Davidson Block, which I first presented in this thread back on November 19 will move to the BSP thread, since it is a real building from Bay City, Michigan. Here is my current progress on the BAT, but look to the BSP thread from now on for more news!

I spent a little bit of time BATing over Christmas, and just picked that project up again. Here is 333 E. Chicago, which is a real building located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Hope everyone is doing well and having a good 2011 so far!

Aaron Graham: Thanks! Congratulations on your two Trixies!

Got quite a bit of texturing work done on 333 E. Chicago. I think this will be ready for the STEX soon!

I love the roof bitmap, I might have to steal that from you!

You may want to lower the facade's brick contrast slightly, coupled with the roof, it gives the whole building a very noisy appearance ( I think it works better for the roof though).

    Otherwise, I love it!

Neat! I see Todd's point, but even if you decided to leave overall noise as it is, I guess I wouldn't bother too much. An adjusted version might be worth a shot, though. And haven't I seen that roof bitmap on your Boutique Shops... 2.gif

Todd: Thanks!! Lowered the contrast ever so slightly.

    Jack_wilds: Thanks!

T Wrecks: Shhh... what roof texture? 2.gif

    SimFox: Thank you!!

    allez l'om & Amthaak: Thanks!

Here's a quick update to show the night lights. I think I'm close to exporting and uploading this, but I'm going to wait until after the conversion to ST7.

    echicagodarknite.jpg

OK, so maybe I've already exported it and put it in the game to see what it looks like!

Todd: I know right?! This is the perfect building for that!

Sooo... guess I'm doing a lot of small projects these days. I figure nobody will mind. ;)

How about some new row houses?

    RowHouseAVariations.jpg

This render was just so I could test facade variations. For the final versions, I will vary the roof textures and junk, the window textures, and other details.

I'm gettin' all BUBBLEY inside reading this thread!!

Gotta love your thread Nofunk!.. I recently came back from Detroit, and I'm inspired by your BATs!

Keep up the great work! :D

Aaron Graham, Mcarch, Francis90b: Thanks!! :golly:

Vlasky: Thanks! Yes, two will fit on one square and will be wall-to-wall.

Kellydale2003: Thank you! What was your reason for visiting Detroit?

No real update on the row houses tonight, but I should have time to work on things this weekend. Currently, I'm just working through the texture and model variations, and I'm also thinking about how I want to lot these. I'm going to turn the models into a prop family, and then they will fit two to a 1x2 lot. I'd like to make maybe two variations of 1x2 lots, a 2x2 lot, and then maybe something else? Not sure.

Turning these into a prop family -- like I did for the Milwaukee Apartments I released last year -- will allow for multiple combinations of row houses to grow with each lot. For example, a single 1x2 lot will have 36 possible combinations of row houses! You just can't beat that, right? ;)

Even more rowhouses! :O We have had SimGoober's, Don Miguel's, marcszar's, and now yours - choices, choices... :boggle:

What makes matters worse is that these look too irresistible NOT to download them...

But seriously, depending on how they look together with the others, I'm thinking about putting these into the Chicago tileset, because the rowhouse offer for that tileset isn't too generous. Basically, there are Don Miguel's Castiron lofts (which don't grow very often, at least in my cities), and that's pretty much it. Cycledogg's superb stuff consists of wooden houses and is mostly less urban, and these rowhouses you show here might look OK together with Maxis' Chicago stuff thanks to those ornaments around windows and doors and the ornate cornices.

This calls for a motivational ducky! :ducky:

I second the motivational ducky :ducky: :ducky: ... the row houses, as stated, will fit well with those... I'd like a set with back yards  using CP's tress and stuff, to work with SPA's halifax boxes sets and mattb's american house series :read: ...

Hey Nofunk. I love those little rowhouses. I can never get enough rowhouses for my cities and these should fit in well. Lots of nice little details. I'll definitely be using these when they're finished. One suggestion, the roofs look good, but they look very commercial. They look to me like what you would find on top of a small office or shop, not an old residence. When you vary them, add some chimnies. My guess is this type of rowhouse would have been built when people were using wood or coal to heat their homes so surely there would be a few chimnies poking out. The glass works for the most part, but in a few places I think it came out awfully dark. Specifically, bottom left window in the 3rd in and a few on the far right rowhouse.

These rowhomes look spectacular! Can't wait for them! But I have a suggestion. A corner version? I think they are very much needed for making rowhome neighbourhoods. Is it feasible to make a corner versions for your rowhome set?
