About This File

This is one of the extra files @catty-cb has maintained on her site and now has kindly passed over to us here at Simtropolis for hosting. Inside the zip are the SC3_URK.exe file, some .bmp templates, and the all important SC3URKreadme.txt.  Place the SC3_URK.exe in your C:\GOG Games\SimCity 3000 Unlimited\Apps folder. The Read Me file is rather important for this tool.

In the pics I've used the A1 Clongowes Castle for the example. Basically you load a building, extract 4 .bmp files, edit those in your favorite imaging program, and then reassemble them into a building or landmark. This looks like a very useful tool for peeps with talent. (Unlike me who just dropped in some coloring haphazardly to show that it does work.) The Read Me mentions other stuff you can do. Might be a good idea to read it.

You will notice this file is not my creation and credit for keeping it alive goes to catty. This STEX entry will stay under my name tho since I'm in charge of the new SimCity 3000 Sub-Forum and I'll be the one to reply to comments or questions.

In Windows 8.1, installed correctly, I could only get this program to display in Windows 98/ME Compatibility mode --it must run full screen, but it is very sluggish.  Otherwise a very interesting tool.  The readme file indicates it was created 8/9/2000, so that's before XP upward.

Just to add: I'm running it in XP Pro and I didn't have to tweak anything and it runs at a normal speed. When it says it "This might take a few minutes." it's just several seconds on my comp. I didn't time it with a stopwatch, but maybe 10 seconds to extract the 4 .bmp images. Same for crunching them back together into a building.

I just got back to it, its actually not that bad, just a bit slow processing keyboard input, but worth the wait.  I made Wendy's into a landmark in case I need some fast food as I construct a demo of using the trainer city file.   The speed issue might have to do with dual core.   Not sure if the -CPUCount:1 works, but -r1280x720 did adjust the resolution on the game app.

I am using it to get the icon of Vallians Library Tower image (since I can't download it) from the SC3K old site, and I am manipulating it on GIMP and redrawing it with added shading.

Very nice! You're one of the peeps I was referring to when I said peeps with talent. *:thumb:

This is the original right now on the picture, I am redrawing it as layers on gimp so I can make it more shiny and try to make it look like the canon Library Tower height in LA.

As you can see in the picture there is a weird dark bit between the buildings facade.
LIbrary Tower is Symetrical so all I need was a thumbnail it enlarge to the 4x4 size and was bury so I am editing it to a glorious sjs building.

There are some additions I would try and add on my version.

Look at the real First Interstate World Center.
I like the windows on the top and the all glass rings at the top and the logo on the top that isn't present in Valiens version.
and the other picture is my progress.

It's not usable as it is, I need to find out light settings to match SC3, a way to correctly cut the building without getting a pink outline, and fill the lot.

The app seems to crash when I try to load a .bld file. Also, is there a way to edit the buildings you render in the Building Architect?

I keep getting this error message when I try to load a bmp file. I tried using the readme file, but I couldn't find anything that helps.

The app also crashes when I try to load a .bld file.

Hiya. *:)

It's been way too long ago since I had 3000 installed so I'm not sure how to help. *

But if you don't get any answer here, it'd prolly be good to post a new topic in the SimCity 3000 Forum. *;)

Edit: They did post a topic and the problem was resolved. *:)
