About This File

Colossus Addon Mod - CAM Controller is the popular SimCity 4 mod that involves substantial changes in the RCI (Residential - Commercial - Industrial) simulation as well as essential bugfixes. The mod was developed by the various members of the CAM Team who over time have brought modifications to improve this mod

Please note that this pack may receive updates in the near future. Do not redistribute without asking first, mostly as doing so would complicate efforts to properly maintain, update, and provide technical support for the pack.

Extra feature, if you hover over the folders in the installer, you will get some extra information about each contents

WARNING: From version 2.5 onward Colossus Addon Mod works only with the digital version (1.1.641) of SimCity 4 (Microsfot Windows and Linux only). If you run CAM 2.5 or later on systems different from those listed, the mod may malfunction and no support is provided

MIGRATION:

Migration to CAM 3.0 and later versions can be done if you meet these requirements

  • Players coming from CAM 2.5 can upgrade to CAM 3.0 using only the CAM Controller
  • Players from vanilla can switch to CAM 3.0 using the CAM Controller but must create a new region

Migration to CAM 3.0 and later versions cannot be done if you meet these requirements

  • Players coming from CAM 2.1.1 cannot upgrade to CAM 3.0
  • Players from SPAM cannot switch to CAM 3.0 using only the CAM Controller.
  • Players from vanilla cannot switch to CAM 3.0 if it is used in a developed region
  • Players coming from CAM 3.0 with the CAM-SPAM Controller cannot switch to CAM 3.0 - CAM Controller
  • Players coming from CAM 3.0 with the CAM Controller cannot switch to CAM 3.0 CAM-SPAM Controller

If you are installing CAM starting from these given directions it is discouraged not to use the already developed regions as you may experience compatibility problems with edphics, problems with RCI simualtion so it is strongly advised to create a new region to avoid the problems.

Installation

This package is a simple .zip file. Just extract the a_CAM folder to your My DocumentsSimCity 4Plugins directory (or equivalent, if you have a custom Plugins folder location).

It is highly recommended to install this mod through SC4Pac. Manual download is not recommended for less experienced users.

The manual can be found here, CAM 2.1.0 Uploaded and ready - SC4Devotion in the first post.

It should automatically detect the install location from the windows registry. The "\Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins" location should still be the same, even if you installed the game on the D:\ drive.

A little too general of a statement for me to really try to solve this one. PM me an exact error or location it stalls. If need be, I'll talk you through a full manual installation.

@TheLynx99 this is a normal thing for SimCity 4. Abandoned due to commute time is the default reason for abandonment. The real reasons may be something very different. Make sure the desirability is good for the type of buildings that are abandoning. Commercial needs traffic volume, plazas and medium to low air pollution. Residential needs low traffic, little to no pollution of any kind, parks and a quick route to work. Although farms now employ some R$$ and R$$$ sims, they still mainly employ R$ sims and have the original game bugs I have been unable to override. This includes having plenty of jobs but the sims would rather work somewhere else. Be sure to have a good mix of commerical in with the farms.

If you have not already, be sure the NAM is installed. This will help with actual commute time and pathfinding. The CAM already contains bones1 less dilapidation mod settings, so a lot of the issue is solved.

@InvisiChem  This is what I get: "SC4 Dat Packer failed to update your SimCity_1.dat file".

I have selected "IR Fix Only" and when I want have a look at \AppData\Local\Temp\nsw4E82.tmp\Contrib\ExtProgs\DatPack\SC4DatPacker.exe.log it says: "access denied".

I don't know :???:

Can you tell me how install it manually?

Okay, manual install. Looks very hard, but really isn't.

1. Extract the Mac Version into your \Documents\SimCity 4\  directory. Mac Zip File
2. Create a folder in \Documents\SimCity 4\Original SimCity Files\
3. Download Dat Packer https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=26 and install that.
4. Copy your SimCity_1.dat file to \Documents\SimCity 4\Original SimCity Files\
5. Make another copy of your SimCity_1.dat file to the \Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\SimCity_1\  directory
NOTE: In this directory is already a file named z_CAM_2.1.0_Stand_Permanent Merge.dat
6. Run SC4 Dat Packer
7. Select just the SimCity_1 listing in the main program window
8. Click start, then close on the window when it pops up and is done, then quit on the main SC4 Dat Packer window.
9. Open the \Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\Plugins Compressed\ folder
10. Copy this SimCity_1.dat file to your SimCity 4 install directory, overwrite if asked.
11. Delete the \Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\SimCity_1\   directory.
12. Delete the \Documents\SimCity 4\Plugins\Plugins Compressed\  directory

Now, in the a__CAM folder in your plugins is a whole bunch of files. What is removed determines the type of CAM you wish to play. Remove all PlayStyles except the one you want to play. For instance, if you wish to play the Extended version, remove the Rural, Standard, Midrise, SkyScraper and FarmOverride files. Rural is the only one in which you should keep the FarmOverride file for. If you wish to experiement with it, it provides a massive boost to IR Demand. It will not mess up any other playstyle, just increase IR Demand in all of them.

If you do not wish to use any part of the CAM(Don't know why someone would, it is a great mod :P ), just the IR Fix, then after the patch described above, delete the a__CAM folder.

Working on the new installer as we speak. Using a completely different program to make it cross platform and do the patch internally. Right now, I use the third party SC4 Dat Packer by Wouangaine. Great program, but some new systems do not play well with it running from a temporary directory. The one used in the new installer is going to be written by me for newer systems. Hope this really does help guys.

@InvisiChem I did have a demand mod installed that also may have been causing it. I had the plopmatic 9000 which i ususally plop in every city that may have been causing it. I'll be sure to remove the last of the demand mods because now that you make me think about it, the demand mods and cheats may have been the cause. SMH

Demand mods play havoc with the simulation. Once removed, zone by the demand meter for awhile. It should balance out and grow beautifully without any demand boosting. CAM has a slight boost over vanilla anyways.

You changed the Demand Created for the 'CV12x14_urgentcareclinic_0311'  to 2,5,1 for jobs but forgot to change the Amenities to 2,5,1; The Amenities are still 1,6,1

@InvisiChem i tried downloading the CAM and was initially having problems with missing .dll files. seemed to get that resolved, but still got an error message:

"see logfile: 'C:\Users\ANDY~1.AND\AppData\Local\Temp\nszB859.tmp\Contrib\ExtProgs\DatPack\SC4DatPacker.exe' for details."

any advice for me?

I kind of have a weird bug after doing the manual install.  All my dragabbles are doubled now (pipes, power lines, streets, roads, zones and all that)  and I can't figure out why.

@MrKline

I've reposted your review in the comments section. Since it's a technical problem, instead of giving a star value, this is a more appropriate place to report such issues. Especially as it would affect perception of the upload's functionality.

Thanks. :)

I have some questions:

How do I install CAM on a Steam installation?

When is 2.1.1 coming out? It has been a year.

I followed the steps that came up but in the end there was an error message, "The system cannot find the file specified"

I've noticed a slight incompatibility with the SimCity 4 Launcher; everything works beautifully except the AutoSave, which doesn't, claiming SC4 isn't running, even though it is. Is it possible this might be fixed in a future version?  :)

I'm trying to manually download the CAM mod as the installer runs into an error about halfway through the download. Problem is, when I use the dat packer (im using something called JDatPacker instead of the SC4DatPacker) and select SimCity_1 folder with the  as input and the PluginsCompressed folder as output (SimCity_1 file has the SimCity_1.dat file and the z_CAM_2.1.0_Stand_Permanent Merge file) and I hit "start", nothing appears to have changed, and no dat packs are found in the plugins compressed folder. I'm currently trying to figure out what's causing it and how to fix it, but any help or advice would be greatly appreciated

(its probably gonna take months before i get decent advice)

Maybe even years here in the comments section. :O

I recommend creating a new topic in the SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues forum so your question(s) and the answers you receive will be specific to your situation. (You might find some tips in the recent Colossus addon installer not opening dat packer? thread in that forum, but since you need to use JDatPacker it might not be helpful.)

This sounds like an amazing mod and I was hoping to use it but unfortunately, for whatever reason, it prevents the NAM36 mod I also installed from working properly. Specifically, none of the NAM icons will appear, thus preventing me from being able to use it at all. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the NAM a few times to ensure I didn't mess up the installation process, even though I felt very confident that I did it right. I had installed a bunch of mods a couple years ago on a different computer and they all worked great, including NAM

In fact, of all the mods I started installing this time around, the CAM was the only new one that I'd never tried before. This led me to try uninstalling the CAM, while reinstalling the NAM and now the icons appear and the NAM can be used. Unfortunate. Was hoping to have both. Maybe because I'm on Windows 10? Idk.

@hershey95

As I mentioned to someone else, I recommend creating a new topic in the SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues forum. While comments on files are a great place to keep things together it also happens to not be the place most of the techy peeps will notice your questions/dilemma.

While I don't personally use CAM, I'm 99.9% certain it will work with NAM 36. I seem to recall that CAM has some sort of traffic simulator option, but that isn't compatible with NAM and when using NAM it's recommended to skip that part of the CAM install. (But, I could have it mangled since I've not been thru the CAM install process.)

So, best to ask your questions where they'll be seen in the aforementioned forum. *;)

Hellow InvisiCam.

Thank you for your effort on creating Latest CAM

I have a issue regarding installation of CAM. During CAM installation is "SC4DatPacker" is essential or can I just ignore it?  Coz Still the installation completes after ignoring and CAM is working in the game. Also the installer during installation ask to override/Merge the original dat file SimCity_1.dat with the existing file on that particular folder. which I did.

The thing is does all this activities is happening naturally? or do I just doing something wrong. I hope I addressed the issue properly for your valuable reply. Please enlighten me.

Hiya, @necroshine123.

Unfortunately @InvisiChem has not been seen around here since July 2016. I do know finalizing the installation of CAM has several steps which may need to be performed manually. If the installer fails to run to completion, please see the Solution to CAM Installation Problem Using Windows 10.pdf for how to manually finish off the process.

I'm not a CAM user myself, but as I understand it the steps in there work for other versions of Windows too.

-Cori
