Must have Mods for Orion

Issues that have been plagued players since the game's release is now answered. Some says it is the holy grail of all mods. Some says this mod + buy game/reinstall. That's right, 3k extended border aka "bigger city".

Understanding the mechanics of Orion 3k Extended Boundary.

1. Upon entering 3k extended map. based on (Image #1), The 3k map extended on North and East. Use right click mouse button or middle mouse button to bring up the compass.

2. Regional Roads are needed to draw them outside 2k map. Such as Project Akar : UI Enhancements, that offers almost every roads available to be drawn outside 2k.

3. Regarding Land Value, please refer the image below. There a lot of misunderstanding as well as misconceptions about the land value data, that was viewed in the map data.

  • The Actual Land Value EFFECTS are still intact as they are. It does not resized regardless in or outside 2k. Believe it or not. It still the same. There are claims that users may have experiences getting different wealth RCI in certain unwanted areas. These confusions is only because  we can't determine the actual "spot" of land value throughout 3k extended border, and the data from the Land Value map seems false but not entirely false information. It was compressed 4:1
  • This also applied on Pollutions, Ground Pollutions, Futurizations etc.

4. Regarding Resources. Unlike Land Value/Pollutions etc That was compressed 4:1. All Resources are stretched 1:4, see Image #3 and #4 to get better understanding on them.

  • This 1:4 stretched map data also effects oil, water, coal and ore.

Lag and memory issues

Its common knowledge that lags or frame-rate drops are known for almost every game that pushes its limits unless the users has a high-end computers. It covers almost every aspect from 3D rendering, physics (engine), memory calculations that the game generates etc. Orion (3k Extended boundary) does not lag the game itself, only that the additional space it provides for users to built in and as the city developed and getting dense - it'll stress your computer hardware.

We cant blame the game for the lags, it just happen that once we push the game to its limit, we might as well be done with better hardware.

The Game's Limitations

1. All trees outside the default border cant be remove, because there is no tree, its a facade. Only way to remove them is to edit the region map files.

2. The game already provide its regional transit, from air to land and water. We can't add Maglevs/Subways/EL and Streetcars to work between two different city vice versa. Please "make do" with the given features of each city tiles carefully.

3. There's a limit count of how many roads/buildings that can be drawn/build per city tile

  • Roads : 1024
  • RCI : 2048
  • Base Buildings : 4096 (not yet confirmed)

i am not able to plop any services, parks, or uitilites outside the vanilla city box. yes im trying only north and east sides of the map. i have UDON, AKAR, AVALON, ALL RCI PLOP. they all work perfectly fine but i see some users plopping EVERYTHING outside the borders. what am i doing wrong?

Yeah I came to ask about this too... to see if there was any update in the works. I used to have BoC installed - so a lot of that was ploppable, but with Akar etc it won't fit on my UI (Mac highest resolution isn't big enough).  I really really hope plop for things other than RCI will be added soon, so we can push utilities out into the region   :)    Pretty pleeeease?

I just plum can't get this to work. I've got everything in the right place, follow the steps described exactly... and no change. Nothing. I am running on Linux with Wine but that shouldn't make a difference?

I've uninstalled and reinstalled, cleaned out the folder. Nothing?

Anybody got any ideas?

I'm sure you've done it already... but just to be sure - did you claim a new plot, exit right out of SC (not just to the main menu) then relaunch and go back in to that plot?  That's when you should see the larger boundary lines.  Good luck with it!

I did indeed. I found the problem, apparently I had a corrupted install. After a 2nd reinstall all was set right. Thanks!

it may be that only SOME maps allow the placement of ALL buildings outside the vanilla box. Ive only tried mustang run so far. ill test a few more maps and see if theres a difference. ill ask other modders to plz test this as well.

EDIT: I have tested this and found that there ARE INDEED SOME MAP PLOTS that allow placement of services, parks, utilites, and services. All you have to do is experiment with the different map plots and find one that suits you. With that being said, MOST plots will NOT let u place these particular buildings. Please spread this to all other places like reddit and possibly put this info into the main mod page HERE. im talking to you yayie haha!

Was the mod updated at all or just the description on the page? This site sucks so much that you cannot even tell!

I get a bigger border. But whenever I build roads at the start of a new city, I can't ever connect a road to highway.

When I remove all Akar mods, I have a bigger border, but my cursor can't leave the (now invisible) 2k border.

So, it sucks for me. This mod doesn't work. Could someone help?

IMO i would stay away from this mod for a while until a stable release ,as for the problem your having i suggest just roll back,i made a mistake that cost me 3 months work so now im saving like no tomorrow .

Er, (love this mod a lot,) but I have a big city, and I'm trying to finish adding another section to it with roads, but my game keeps crashing when I place roads now? (I'm using a lot of other mods as well...)

HI!

First of all, many thanks for developers for this extraordinary mod, really, it's crazy how mods outperformace original games to incredible levels.

But... I've got two really annoying troubles whit it...

The first is some medium or high value rci that plops anywhere. There are not under park zones or even in more value zones in the "moved" map, so I can't understand why they plops

The second is a big trouble that ruins me some planned cities... Resources. If value or pollution map are moved, (which is upset, but not really important), resource maps are well located... But not the real resources! So, if you try to put an oil well or a mine just over a oil, mineral or coal field, the game tolds you that there aren't any resources there... Is really annoying. After test some things, I'm sure that resources has been moved in opposite to maps, so, if you want to use this resource, you'll put your mine/oil well where you put the cursor when try to put some trees just over this field... Very imprecise and very, very difficult to use properly.

This two bugs can be fixed?

Yayie Hi, Congratulations on your work.

When I make the process of saving and exiting Simcity and enter and resume, the expansion of map is correct but I have a problem with the mod Perfect realistic Bridges, is that when you get off the ground it does but more wide, margins with grass.

You know of any solution?

PD: I have tried other similar mods to lower land and the same result.

Thank's and regards.

i JUST LOVE THIS MOD!  the game is soo much more fun when you can actually build a city. I'm at 500k and I notice no performance hit at all! so I'm thinking maybe i e-mail Maxis and tell them to grab some balls and makes this mod a part of the game so to speak. And that way they could fix the alignment witch is actually what I wanted to bring up. Its more then a little offset I'm afraid. On the image you can see pollution from my processor factory's  in the middle of the city and non even close to them. The air pollution is quite correct from the industrials building.

http://1drv.ms/1usMrdd (mods, the add image does not work)

BTW, the city limit shown by the Orion mod is not correct I have about 3-4 city blocks after the shown limit =) have a look http://1drv.ms/1l3nrqa

i absolutely love this idea, though the data overlays (ore, metal, etc.) being offset is the kicker for me. i'll be following regularly though, great work!

From what I understand (and Skyestorme's latest video reiterated it), although the overlays appear offset, their actual influence is in the right place. Annoying, but better than it might have been :)

@xoxide The offset is not just visual I have sims complaining now "this area isent healthy" and they aren't even close to any contaminated area or air pollution! same goes for water does not seem to matter where I put it it wines about it being polluted =( I'm almost crying now as I DO NOT want to drop Orion but on the same time cant have sims dying constantly have over 300 sick sims...
