SUMMARY

IDS Office Plaza is a two-building lot featuring two of IDS2's towers combined to form a large office complex (growable and ploppable) for your SimCities.

BACKGROUND

When I saw IDS's Keillor Tower and Nelson Tower, I thought immediately that both would look great when used together on one lot. However, when I tried to lot them, somehow nothing went together. I took up the challenge and slowly managed to piece some drafts together. Then, after a while, one of them suddenly turned into a promising design and, eventually, into this lot.

The result uses far too many dependencies to be really convenient, so I guess this is kind of a "take it or leave it" affair. I thought I'd release it anyway - maybe one or two of you out there are going to enjoy this, and I certainly won't be angry if you say "meh, too many dependencies, so I'll pass on this one".

DESCRIPTION

IDS Office Plaza was erected at a busy street corner and is composed of a low-rise building near the street and a taller tower further away from the road. Since each of the buildings is positioned in one diagonally opposite corner of the lot, two open plazas remain.

The one in the back of the lower building is far away from the hustle and bustle of the road. Shaded by trees and somewhat secluded by water basins, it offers your busy Sims some cool and fresh air for a rest from their daily business. Two modern sculptures and comfortable benches to sit on allow for some quiet and contemplative moments to let the mind wander and forget about the busy city around for a while.

The plaza at the corner, in front of the taller tower, features a grand entrance to the main tower, flanked by two fountains. The right-hand side, next to the lower building, serves as a café terrace with tables scattered under the trees that offers its guests some shade and a good look over the plaza and the street at the same time.

The lot is entirely seasonal, uses shaded props and features many randomised elements such as varying smaller plants, café tables and crowds of Sims. You will also see Sims wandering randomly around on the lot to make it feel more lively.

STATS / VALUES

GROWABLE:

  • Lot size and orientation: 5x9 right corner lot (see included zoning help picture)
  • Tileset(s): Houston and Euro
  • Zone type: High-density commercial only
  • Occupants: 2,400 CO§§ jobs (medium-wealth commercial office)
  • Growth stage: 7

PLOPPABLE:
Same stats as growable version, i.e., it's a fully functional ploppable with jobs. Comes with a crisp custom icon and can be found in the Landmarks menu. Also features a custom description and a proper query sound.

All other stats (pollution, consumption, value etc.) have been modded in line with Maxis buildings - you will not experience any surge in power demand, tax income, garbage, or anything else.

DEPENDENCIES

The buildings:

NOTE: Only the respective .sc4model files are needed for this lot; if you do not want to use the standalone versions of the above buildings, you can delete all other files associated with them and put the .sc4model files in the same folder as IDS Office Plaza. If you do want to use the standalone buildings simultaneously, this will work just fine. In this case, you'll just need to have them installed somewhere.

The textures:
NDEX Texture Set Vol.1 for the base textures
BSC Textures Vol.1 for the overlay textures

The props:
BSC Mega Props CP Vol.1 (please make sure you have the current "Earth Day" version)
BSC Mega Props CP Vol.2
Fountain props included with CBT Tribune Tower (only the fountain props from the sub-folder included in that download are required! The building doesn't have to be installed or used, but can be used simultaneously if you like)

FINAL WORDS

Thanks to iLive for the tools, BSC and NDEX for the textures, Cycledogg for the superb props, darn42 for those nice fountains, and of course IDS2 for the buildings!

What's New 1.3

Released

  • Dec 26, 2013: Fixed problem when using this lot together with IDS2's 100 Washington Square (wrong building showing up) that occurred due to an ID conflict. Thanks to Cheddar for the heads-up!
  • Jan 09, 2014: Sargeantcm made me aware of another small oversight: The descriptors for the fountain props (that I thought were included in the CBT Tribune Tower download) had, in fact, been made by myself a long time before the upload - I forgot to include them. Now they're there.
  • Jan 10, 2015: Link to NDEX base textures corrected as per Sabretooth78's comment - thanks again for the help, dude!

Sorry about the format in the description - somehow the editor didn't let me do what I wanted to do. However, the file contains the readme in HTML format. As for a night view, check out IDS2's buildings (see links in description). Merry Christmas to everyone, and thank you all for conbtributing in one way or another and keeping SC4 alive! :)

thank you for this very well designed complex lot and really not that many dependencies since most are part of my

standard plugins folder

Wow, it's great to see a new upload from you - phenomenal quality as usual!  Also, pretty interesting:  I was just going through your lots last night and was thinking, "I'd really like to see some more T Wrecks custom lots" and you end up uploading this today.  Strange coincidence.  :)

This lot looks great but when I tested it, I appeared to have ran into a problem.

The smaller building, Nelson Tower, is replaced by 100 Washington Square, another building of IDS2. This was caused by a shared building ID. I do not know if the problem is just my end or yours, but if it is on your end, then you should perhaps re-download the Nelson Tower and update this lot.

Other than that, the lot does look great even with the building glitch.

Rats. Of course you're totally right - I apparently used the old tower accidentally. The problem has just been fixed. I successfully plopped down this lot and 100 Washington Square right next to another, without any problems.

TO THOSE WHO HAVE DOWNLOADED ALREADY AND USE 100 WASHINGTON SQUARE AT THE SAME TIME: I'm afraid you'll have to re-download and make sure you only keep the new files. I'm terribly sorry about the inconvenience that this causes. :lost:

@Cheddar: Thank you very much for this bug report!

You really did these two BATs some justice. Great job with the lot, it was about time someone did this :)

Thank you sir for the upload, but is this a Maxisnite or Darknite version?

That doesn't matter at all. :) The descriptors for both models point to the respective building ID - which is identical for MN (Maxis night) and DN (DarkNite) versions. So if you have MN installed, the descriptors will find the MN models and use them. If you have DarkNite installed, the descriptors will find the DN models and display these. I just verified by using the tall tower in the MN version and the small one in the DN version - as a consequence, I got a DN/MN mix on one lot.

In a nutshell: This lot will use whatever version it finds installed on your system. :)

Excellent lot; however, I believe I have all the dependencies installed yet the fountain bases do not appear.  I have installed the 4 fountain model files from CBT's Tribune.  Do you have any idea what could be the cause?

Oh, the irony! Just after I am made aware of another stupid little mistake, I see this is currently featured on the front page...

I just updated to version 1.2 today - reason see change log. For those of you who have already downloaded and don't want to download the entire file again, the missing .DAT file (less than 2 kB) can also be downloaded here. Should this link expire, drop me a line via PM.

FYI, the descriptors for the fountain props were missing, which would result in the fountain bases not being visible. This oversight happened because I started the project, then left it sitting around on the back burner, and when I came back to it, I no longer remembered some tiny, but relevant details. This is really annoying, and I'm sorry about all this.  :lost:

You call this too many dependencies?

I've seen more simpler relots/BATs that have far more dependencies, besides these are the common ones that most people would have anyway. When I jump on my other computer, I'm giving this a download. Great lot that would look well as a filler in a tight district or a standalone building.

You truly are one of the kings of relots.

I like how you decorate the empty lot that has no BATs on it,it's beautiful! Most of the modders don't realize that

Anyway so good to see you're still active! I really appreciate your IRM mods for I myself is one old-fashion industrial architecture nostalgia freak and having massive headache about how to build a tubes and bricks themed industrial city, now there goes the solution!

Hi - I'm rebuilding my plugins, and in the process I found a minor error in the dependency list - rather than NDEX Global Essentials, you need NDEX Texture Pack Volume 1 for the base textures.  Probably not a big deal as most players probably have both, but I thought it might help to point it out.
