Griffith Observatory, by Mattb325. --------------------------------------- The Griffith Observatory and Planetarium opened in 1935 and has a commanding view of the Los Angeles skyline from its prime position on the slope of Mount Hollywood in Griffith Park. It is an example of Art Deco/Streamline Moderne architecture. The observatory is a popular tourist attraction (commanding great views to the nearby Hollywood Sign and downtown LA). Like so many iconic buildings in Los Angeles, the Griffith Observatory has appeared in many films and TV shows. --------------------------------------- This BAT is a fairly faithful reproduction of the observatory - bear in mind that some changes have to be made to the model to ensure that such a sloping structure can work in a game that doesn't really handle sloping structures well - so for that reason I had to make a few changes. This BAT is designed to have slope tolerance and the lot is designed to be plopped on a hill (rather than a cliff-face). The Observatory building is an overhanging prop in three parts - the upper part of the observatory, the underground area of the observatory and café and the small driveway piece. Given the way that SC4 handles models rendered below the ground plane, the underground/foundation part of the observatory does not cast shadows: there is nothing I can do about this. To make the building easier to place, the lot is transit enabled and has limited slope tolerance. Given the main part of the building overhangs by 6 tiles, you can use fine terraforming tools to clean up the slope after placement. This building has been modded as a non-conditional reward that counts towards tourism and has a positive landmark, park and mayor-rating effect. Placing this Observatory will raise IHT demand in your city as well as providing some civic jobs. Therefore, ensure that you have sufficient education facilities in your city to meet the IHT demand increase. * It is offered as a reward without needing pre-existing conditions. * It is located in the REWARD Menu. * It can be placed more than once in a city. Placing rewards is an essential part of growing a large city and region, given their cap-busting and desirability increasing effects. Because you might need to experiment in placing this lot a few times before being satisfied with the final placement, I have kept the Plop and Bulldoze costs low. --------------------------------------- STATS: Lot size : 4 x 5 Plop Cost: §5,000 Monthly Cost: §290 Budget Item: Government Buildings, Landmark Effect Occupant Groups: Reward, Tourist, YIMBY Demand Created: Jobs§: 0, Jobs§§: 43, Jobs§§§: 14. Landmark Effect: +50 over 22 tiles Park Effect: +50 over 22 tiles Mayor Rating: +50 over 220 tiles Pollution: Air 4 over 2 tiles, Water 4 over 3 tiles, Garbage 4 over 0 tiles Power consumed: 76 MwH Water consumed: 34 Gallons/Month Bulldoze Cost: §870 --------------------------------------- NOTE ABOUT DARK NITE vs MAXIS NITE: This download contains TWO model files; one for dark nite users (and other night-time darkening mods, such as Gizmos night-mod) and one for the standard Maxis nite. You must keep only one file - depending on which version you use. If you are unsure whether you have a night-darkening mod installed, then choose the Maxis night version. Regardless of which file you choose to keep, make sure you DO NOT delete the Lot File! If you use the dark nite version, you will need a dark nite mod. Either: (https://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/23089-simfox-day-and-nite-modd/) OR (http://gizmo.aplaceforwebsite.com/index.php) --------------------------------------- DEPENDENCIES: There is only one dependency for this file. To ensure proper functionality, make sure the following file is in your plugins: *BSC Textures Vol01 - (https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=90) --------------------------------------- To install, simply unzip the contents of this file into your plugins folder. Thanks, and enjoy!- 4 Comments

Do you want to put your city at the forefront of astronomical research and make it a destination for space enthusiasts everywhere? Than build the Sagan-Tyson Center for Space, and citizens will come from all around to bask in the wonders of the cosmos! The Sagan-Tyson Center for Space boasts an impressive collection of labs and offices for your city's brightest astronomers and astrophysicists, a rooftop observatory with a small-diameter telescope, a spacious planetarium with the latest in projection technology, several great exhibits on the history and future of space exploration and the nature of the cosmos, and a full-size mock-up of a Saturn V rocket from NASA's Apollo program. The basics: Found under Unique Buildings, Level 5. 14x10 lot. The custom model is 13,949 triangles. Includes diffuse, specular, alpha, illumination, and normal textures at 2048x2048. Includes custom LOD with custom textures. The LOD is 854 tris, with 256x256 textures. Costs $30,000 in-game. Has 4 entrances and several hangout areas. Towering above the city at 110.6 meters (363 feet), the Saturn V rocket is 1:1 scale, and gives an idea of just how big these rockets were. This is a fictional building, with some elements inspired by real buildings, mainly the rooftop observatory, based on the Doane Observatory at Chicago's Adler Planetarium, and the planetarium, based on the American Museum of Natural History's Hayden Planetarium. Installation: Download the desired file. Extract the .CRP file/s from the ZIP archive you downloaded. Place the .CRP file in: C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Colossal Order\Cities_Skylines\Addons\Assets Please let me know if there are any issues, or if you have any ideas or designs for other buildings you'd be interested in seeing made! Thanks for downloading, and enjoy!- 1 Review
