  1. hi folks, first time poster from germany here. to get the important stuff out of the way upfront: you guys are awesome! thank you very, very much for making my childhood time waster no.1 addictive again. here is my problem: i downloaded a rough 3,2 GB in props and mods..but the dependencies are confusing the hell outta me. is there a chronological order in which to install them? they seem to come at random and totally out of any consistent categorization(?). i installed the lot of them...and wouldn't you know...CTD's all the time. :/ i would be VERY thankful if one of you wizards could tell me if there is a proper order for installation..and if i HAVE to use cleanitol all the time (not understanding that tool at all...o have two master degrees and that darn creation makes me feel..well..stupid^^). i checked tzhe forum to see if this question was asked before but i couldn't find anything..so sorry in advance if this problem has been discussed to death already. again, THANK YOU! this is a whole new experience of SC4, and i'm lovin it.
  2. Help me grow my city

Hey forum folks, my newest city, Stockton, needs some thorough planning in order to sucessfully expand. It's 72.000 sims, playing on the lovely EUREKA map, so there is room to expand to the north and east (started in the left bottom corner of the region). So far all runs well, slight deficit. there is still a LOT of room to the north to expand, but i want to keep my city realistic (well, halfway, realistically the city would have been founded along the coast as a port,...nevermind)...mid size, think Southhampton, Kiel, Atlantic City, the likes. I attached a map for you to see the general outline: YELLOW: rail (connects to all other tiles except north); PURPLE: major avenues and approved extension(no connection to other tiles so far, that is all done by 4 arterial roads (more or less forming a cross around the CBD in all directions except north); ORANGE: planned rail extension; RED: planned second industry zoning (but open for anything, really) and planned avenue extension; GREEN: already certain about these areas; GREY: where do i put my harbour? Farms form a ring around the west and east, and i wanted to keep at least SOME of them (develepment nibbling them away ever so slowly already). all input is appreciated; trying to develop my city as realistic as possible. hope this is fun for you..:) have a nice weekend, y'all.
  3. Help me grow my city

kinda off-topic..but is there any trusted moderator from germany around to whom i could wire some money to gift to simtropolis? i wanted to do this already but i absolutely will NOT use paypal, sorry. maybe someone of the german mods uses it and can funnel my money through..lol^^ and i seriously wanna contribute sth...i practically downloaded a new game here..:)
  4. Help me grow my city

thank you!:) it is really fun playing the game with the BATs/mods/plugins found here and on LEX. all 1478 of them^^ and getting some feedback for a game that is to be played in relative solitude (the odd forum posting aside) is very motivating. you guys are so advanced players and some of you have such a good grasp of traffic systems and zoning/city planning...i just learn a lot by reading through the forums. again, love hearing you liked the implementation. if there is interest i could start a whole region and go with you guys' proposals. i am a TOTAL NOOB in regards to NAM (especially the new avenues and tram stuff...but i can learn^^). and yes, love that torus water tower.
  5. Help me grow my city

@Cyclone Boom, @T Wrecks, @jeffryfisher... i tried to implement your ideas. attached is the once empty north of the city. i built a harbour and all those retail boxes, casinos, shady joints, what have you. also built a highway/avenue/train-system that's more or less encompassing the entire city by now. pop up to 150.000, city in the midst of a crippling recession (think pre-reaganomics (headcanon date: 1979) (avert your eyes of the pruitt igoe montrosity in the bottom middle....city planners were sacked, i tells ya).
  6. Torre Coltejer

stunning like the rest of your lots. now i started reading more about Medellin and got stuck with its "library parks" (rejuvenating slums with education buildings and parks); and the sad tale of the Biblioteca de España (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biblioteca_de_España_(Medellín)) which was a huge success in neighborhood renovation and is apparently closing now? https://thebogotapost.com/medellins-doomed-library-the-indefinite-closure-of-biblioteca-espana/32435/) thanks for giving us so many latin american buildings.
  7. Help me grow my city

thank you..i consider this an act of good forum parenting
  8. Show us your Overview of your City/Town

Horse. A dual-city, encompassing two formerly independent communities, Horse and Shallburg. With the extension of the national highway system into the valley, the twin-cities emerged from their slumber and entered solid growth for nearly half a century. now boasting 200,000+ inhabitants, the area faces the challenges that came with fast growth: chaotic street layouts in dire need of upgrades, inefficient public transportation, a public sector that was planned for 50,000 facing collapse. can Horse manage the transformation or will its problems suffocate the city?
  9. Midwest U.S.

everytime i doubt whether i wanna keep playing sc4 i come back here, look at some korver albums and BANG...motivation spiking again. building a realistic city is time-consuming and sometimes just..work. but seeing these pictures (even though they are a bit doctored..;)) gets me so hyped up...really amazing work..:)
  10. The Bow (Calgary, Canada)

what a masterpiece. this is a lot for which you have to build a city wholly centered around it lest it would not be seen enough. speechless.
  11. PC Small Shop Set 2

lovely buildings, very realisitic design! thanks for making my cities more real!
  12. Show us your Overview of your City/Town

Schwelm, early October 1987. Soviet premier Juri Garosprow has followed an invitation of President Hooper to open a new round of disarmament talks in the neutral owotanian port city. Its streets awash with international correspondents, staff personal, policemen and the odd spy, the 'Big Turnip' buzzes with life. An autumn storm drowned the city with considerable quantities of water just minutes ago. Now, the dreary clouds parting and the sun basking the glittering asphalt in a wet, silvery light, the city falls silent, and be it only for a minute. Peace in our time, a young newswriter muses as he wrings out his soaked fedora. Peace in our time.
  13. Show us your Weather!

nice idea. here's my harbor city of Schwelm. Nestled on an elongated headland against the unpredictable waters of Hadmond's Bay. New Years Eve fell on a particulary snowy day this time. Countless fender benders, for sure.
  14. Show us how you manage your plugin folder

that was AMAZING. i wish i could explain things so well. super easy to understand and going into all the details. i'm just now re-organizing my folder. thank you very much, t_wrecks.
  15. Show us how you manage your plugin folder

greetings everyone, attached is an overview of a subfolder i created in my plugins, called it "mods" and it's where i store the "big" mods (lights, terrain, weather, the likes). question: how do i set the right loading priority? i know that the folder with the most z's in front will load last...but which of the mods is the one that SHOULD load last? terrain? weather? lights? insight is very much appreciated.
  16. Show us your Night Shots!

400+ plugins still awaiting installation,...but you get some nifty vistas with the stuff i already installed. SC4 is a new game now. a big THANK YOU to all the modders.
  17. Show us your Night Shots!

@korver, how do you make those? i was searching a thread for that question, found none, so sorry if you might have already answered that. photoshop? one gazillion plugins? those are just...works of art:).
  18. hey folks, my rig is pretty old...like really old. stats: NVIDIA GT 220 (2GB VRAM); Intel Core Quad 2 8300 (2,5Ghz); 4 GB DDR2 RAM...all nicely crammed on a dusty MS-7366 board. basically the 1995 chevy impala of the pc world. my question: which of these components is the most responsible for performance? i set the game to software mode and have it running on one core of the cpu only...so far no crashes. BUT: my plugin folder is swelling and i'm going to add a couple hundred bats, lots, etc within the next two days.....i fear the worst. soooo....doubling or quadrupling the RAM will do me any good? changing the GPU? i'm not gonna do some cardial surgery on my trusty old fella here, so CPU replacement is out of the question. any insight and advise is very much appreciated. thank you.
  19. Updating RAM, GPU or CPU?

in the attached picture you can see the same scene in software mode. textures are crisp, shading is correct and lighting is even (compare to hardware mode pic..you can see the horrid green textures that look like 256-color-graphics, whereas the software rendition looks like true color....weird.) if there is no way to work around the issues in hardware mode i'll have to accept it, of course. i'm just baffled how this happens? any insight? drivers are updated, sc4 is a clean and legal installation, my plugin folder is autistically organized....i'm running out of ideas. i have tried changing some nvidia panel settings, but nada. ARGGGGGH. mondays, amirite^^
  20. Updating RAM, GPU or CPU?

one last thing...which seems to be connected to this whole affair: after switching to hardware and adding the directX-line...i have the weirdest lights in night mode?...hmmm i turned shadows on the lowest settings, that normally made the blueish tint disappear (happened before, too, but after doing that normally textures were normal and darkness smooth). i'm using the AWESOME uniform street lighting mod. really, a gem. also the DARKNITE(?) mod. this new graphics glitch...i'm certain it's my gpu...but i have no idea how to turn it off/change settings? has this happened to other GT-Series owners before here? (using an NVIDIA GT 220) (in the picture below you see both effects: blueish shadow fragments (gone when i switched shadows off) AND green horror lights of HELL. the green tint appears when i run the game on hardware. so...do i only have the option to run on sotware, crippling my cpu but having the USL mod run correctly, or can i somehow enjoy running on hardware and simultaneously get rid of that green texture glitch?)
  21. Updating RAM, GPU or CPU?

i am gobsmacked by the user support and quality of this site. thank you very much for taking the time to elaborate, giving tips and ...wouldn#t you know it, i changed the executable to ""C:\Program Files (x86)\Maxis\SimCity 4 Deluxe\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CustomResolution:enabled -r1600x1200x32 -Intro:off -d:directx -f -CPUCount:1" and now it not only runs faster and crisper but even more stable. thank you. i'll donate something for this. i feel dirty getting all the help, bats and mods and not contributing. off to setting up paypal we go!^^
  22. i love your work. my grand-uncle is from edmonton and i've been to canada two times. your lots take me back..:p

  23. Updating RAM, GPU or CPU?

when i load my big city i deactivate my wlan, close my browser via task manager and i put sc4 on high priority. worked until now. FINGERS CROSSED! thanks again, i was almost certain that a 15yo game would not need more than 4gig. phew..:p
  24. Updating RAM, GPU or CPU?

thanks for replying so quickly! i'm running win7 home ed., 64 bit, sp1 installed. so pretty vanilla here. the 4gb-patch came with my version of NAM(36), so i guess i'm covered? sweet. does that mean my 4gig configuration is enough? sadly, my hard drive is kinda...rustic. happy weekend to y'all.
  25. hey forum folks, has anynone here ever encountered this problem: when plopping down the "NDEX Old Post Office" (i love that monstrosity) there are highway connectors in the middle. it is even possible to plop the building on an existing highway. here is the problem: once plopped, the highway gets severed..it is NOT possible to reattach it. i have tried everything...completely even terrain, saving and restarting, reinstalling...nada. what gives? any help is appreciated.
