Brown Boxes turns Red and Green
Propfam replied to VitroOliveira's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
But, as I know, CAM 2 (the recommended version of the CAM you should download) doesn't include the simulator again. They have I-R fix and some other options but not the simulator. Thanks.- 11 Replies

For point 2, there is a custom airports out there, the AC Functional Airports. You need to download a dozen of dependencies first. But, you'll get some airports and even heliports from the mod. For tutorials, I'll give that to the respective experts. For point 3, of course no. Even, C:S is much more flexible than SC4. Also compared to SC4, C:S is huge leap of it. C:S is suitable who are creative and have high-spec'd computer or who have lots of money to buy currently-expensive GPUs (or graphic cards). Also, you might want to read the site guideline first before you start active to this site. Reading my FAQ first before actively gaming is recommended. I wish to edit the FAQ but due to the exam that I must do, this isn't possible now. Thanks.

Is There a Cheaper Skylines? (And Does It Work on My Laptop?)
Propfam posted a topic in Cities: Skylines Technical Help Q&A
Hello, I want to buy Cities:Skylines in distant future because it has good flexibility comparing to SC4. The base game starts from IDR 199,999 (or around $15) or if I wanted the Deluxe Edition, it would be $20 from Steam. But, if I want to buy all the expansion packs, they'll cost me around $65 dollar, which is ridiculously expensive to me. As comparison, SimCity 4 is priced at $19.99 or around IDR 280,000 and still gets tons of benefit by installing the free mods here on STEX. Yes, SC4 mods have some limits that making them not flexible but still worth it. OK, is there a cheaper C:S, especially with (possibly) all the EPs? If yes, where and when should I buy it? Also, my laptop runs on Linux with 4 GB of RAM, 500 GB of storage, Sandy Bridge Core i5 and HD Graphics 3000. Can I run the game? Is it smooth? Thanks.- 7 Replies

[Re-resolved] Imgur images not displaying
Propfam replied to kschmidt's topic in Simtropolis Related
Relevant to the site, our site gives error when I post my reply. More specifically, it throws "no such file or directory" error. It's temporary but annoying for users who post their replies in that time. Thanks. -
Is There a Cheaper Skylines? (And Does It Work on My Laptop?)
Propfam replied to Propfam's topic in Cities: Skylines Technical Help Q&A
But, the decision of using the GPU extensively even all integrated ones can't play it smooth isn't ideal. iGPUs are being used in new ultrabooks now and there are some iGPUs that are powerful, like the Intel Iris Pro series (see the 13" MacBook Pro lineups). With the GPU price craze, people will opt into mobile or console. Without giving up the "iGPU not allowed" rule, C:S can't revolutionize mobile city simulator industry, which SimCity BuildIt leads. Even PUBG Corporation created the mobile version of their game because PUBG knows that GPU prices goes up. Not perfect but still better than none. Yes, extensively moddable games can stress the hardware, especially if the mods is installed. But, it's unfair to say Minecraft for instance is super heavy because it can be extensively moddable, it's caused by mods installed. Regardless of the moddable status, all games should have some kind of optimization so iGPUs can play the game. Thanks.- 7 Replies

Brown Boxes turns Red and Green
Propfam replied to VitroOliveira's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
For more info, NAM's jobs are fixing commute time bug, add some features to the network simulator to even make airports capacity higher. Also, improvements to existing networks and new networks by NAM including wide roads, curved streets (part of wide-radius curves), realistic railway (you may need to select the RealRailway option in the installer), viaducts, elevated roads etc. While CAM's job, well it's explained by Cori (her call name). One of misconceptions is CAM needs starter packs and it's not true. CAM already bend all Maxis buildings' value to it's own. Starter packs only needed if you want building varieties. Thanks.- 11 Replies

Is There a Cheaper Skylines? (And Does It Work on My Laptop?)
Propfam replied to Propfam's topic in Cities: Skylines Technical Help Q&A
Why C:S is so heavy? Even, SC2013 runs fine on my now-broken old laptop with low settings of course. It has some lags especially when zooming from region to a city but still can be enjoyed. There are lightweight laptops (yes, I want laptops because I want to work with others seamlessly) that equipped with current-gen CPUs and >8 gigs of RAM has integrated graphics better than mine (including all 13-inch MacBook Pros). Is it true that all integrated GPUs can't play C:S smoothly? If yes, that's an ironic. In the world where dedicated GPUs are still expensive and getting mobile, C:S demands people to buy GPUs to play their games*. There must be optimizations to the game or the market share may be dropped in the future. For now, SC4 is the best choice for the hardware. Any computer should run the game seamless. One of few problems is lack of flexibility. We can make a game having gameplay similar to C:S and SC4 with reasonable graphics. Sorry for my words. Don't be angry. Thanks. *Yes, you can still play C:S in console but unlike the desktop one, they may have some limitations. Also, true mobile people also don't want to buy the (almost) uncarryable consoles.- 7 Replies

Elevated Highways Design Problem
Propfam replied to VitroOliveira's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Try to bulldoze the roads below the highway (the parts of the highway will be bulldozed too) and make the curve again. But this time, you should not recreate the roads you've bulldozed. Don't forget to send the screenshot here again. Thanks. -
Hello, I want to implement the real-life pedestrian and transit-only road. I also want to place transits alongside the road. I have questions about implementing them: 1. How do I filter roads? I want to develop BRT systems using NWM roads in some areas and normal roads. 2. I want some roads to be pedestrian and transit-only using pedmalls. How do I place residences in the front of the road? 3. Are there stations that pedmall-friendly? 4. Is the system is effective for any city sizes? Thanks.

Looking For Oil refinery Excepting Medium to Heavy Crude Oil ...

You can see the comment section of my articles: It mentioned oil facilities. Try to find "oil" in the page. ???? Thanks. -
I have bought a Python book on Kobo Books (yes, e-books). But, I have only phones, is this fine?
-
Although Python is the recommended first language of newbies, Python can't be used in mobile apps as Swift or Kotlin or even JavaScript (and its derivatives) and startups almost doesn't use it. They often uses Node.js (run top on JavaScript), Ruby (Ruby on Rails of course) and PHP with proper framework. I think Python will be used on servers and desktops, for wide range of usages but it doesn't go into mobile app development. OK, I've found a course on Udacity thats learn both HTML, CSS and Python (yes, no JavaScript) but it's paid US$400 single-time and my family can't afford it now. Thanks.

Hello, I was making Omnibus articles, especially about SimCity 4 but due to lack of popularity, my articles are shown in the bottom. This behavior beats one of important things in wiki: all posts must be accessed equally and easily. This makes my articles difficult to access. To fix this, we should change our wiki system similar to Wikipedia, using MediaWiki. Using MediaWiki also provides functionality to edit and even request deletion, some of important things in information democracy. Yes, Simtropolis isn't full democracy but in case of not-maintained articles, those point are important. For those asking about staffing, the wiki is administered by the same community staffs plus staffs dedicated to maintaining the wiki (similar to STEX). Even better, we could use the Stack Exchange style of staffing: as the reputation grows, appropriate moderation and even admin features are given. In case of power abuse, the member are given right to give bad reputation points. The rep points is available in small amount and replenished each day to prevent abuses. Again, if there are abuses, member can give bad rep. The choice of staffing system is back to the community itself. But, I can help you to setup the wiki and creating initial contents. Thanks.
-
Because of the IPS behavior, I'm not given incentive to make Omnibus articles. It's far better to make Wiki alive again but with staffs moderation and automatic spam protection. To be clear, our Wiki are different than SC4D's, we are hosting tutorials and references, not technical informations. So, DBPF docs still in the SC4D wiki. The reason of this is to remove misunderstanding due to abuse edits and remove confusion too because if we same as SC4D's, we are better to contribute to the original wiki, except if the wiki is abandoned. Thanks.
-
Same too. It's time to leave the IPS offerings. Even better, we can leave IPS completely because there are good non-PHP based forum software out there. Nodebb for instance supports groups and Amazon S3, two features important to us. Or, we can use Discourse which suitable for modern communities. Discourse promotes user moderation and supports permission system. Both are mobile-friendly and fast. Also, both are free, as long as we host it on our server (server fees not included but cloud/pay-as-you-go servers are much cheaper than fixed counterpart, especially if the server capacity aren't maxed out in long time range). Wiki is remain separate because if we rely on the forum offering, it worse than the dedicated software for that. We need to sure the account can be used on both softwares. Also, STEX will be separate too so we need replacements. We can invite @Cyclone Boom, @rsc204, @TekindusT, @Dirktator, @Fantozzi and more here to discuss this. Thanks.

OK, I'll learn coding first but what programming language should I learn first? Python or HTML/CSS/JS or Kotlin or C# or even C++? Python is general even can be used in scientific sector (currently, I'm not scientist but it's cool to implement it for instance, in game) but can't be used to make website and mobile apps. HTML, CSS & JS combo can be used to make websites and even serve webpages (Node.js) but doesn't have NumPy, SciPy etc. Kotlin can be used to make Android apps but they can't be used to make games. And C# is general and supports gaming but it's in runtime like Java, so the performance may lower than the native (or compiled to native) counterpart. Thanks.

I want to be a coder but I want to be NAM modder too? What should I learn first: coding or transit modding? Especially the transit modding requires texturing skill. Thanks.

What do you think about the water system in SC4?
Propfam replied to Cool_Z's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Also, the water system in SimCity 4 is not using something called fresh water and seawater. Instead, it uses the infinitely available aquifier. The game should using the fresh water and seawater but because the development of them is halted (and the weather too), the finished game only using, again, aquifier. Yes, you can make a new water tower lot using seawater or fresh water but I don't know it's buggy or not (especially they're halted since the alpha/beta stage). Also, the ideal pipe length is 9 by 9. Yes, the pipe should surrounds an imaginary 8x8 square. If the usage doesn't hit the amount of water produced, it will flood buildings effectively & efficiently. Thanks. -
Hello, Yes, I can make the game loading faster by datpacking the NAM (one of largest mods) and using SSDs. But, datpacking isn't modular (or uneditable) and SSDs, while currently cheap, I don't want it now. How do I making the game loading faster without datpacking and using SSDs. For proofs, vanilla SC4 Deluxe loads about 5 seconds while NAM + some light plugins SC4 loads about 30 seconds in my laptop. Thanks.

Hello everyone, I'm don't want Mod rank now and I don't request it and I only accept the rank if the staff give me the rank. I want to ask. Why so many moderators here? And, how CorinaMarie that's joined 2016 (correct me if wrong) can obtain the rank (beside of trustness)? Is it caused by an 'moderator contest'? I don't criticize or even disagree your hard work that led to Mod rank. Again, I'm just want to ask some questions. Thank you.

The cause I flag Moderators, Admin etc as rank and privilege because my background. I'm coming from a Minecraft server that "Moderator" & "Admin" assigned as rank, not a tool. The admin even use the Creative Mode to get items for them. It's not fair. Even, the "economy" isn't economy anymore because the player can sell items into thin air and get money from the thin air. Also, the items obtained from the world called "Resources" reset monthly. So, the rich becoming so rich and the poor can be rich too. But, to be fair, the server adjust the price manually. This is done without notification even in the front of the "shop" (it should be called admin shop because of "sell into thin air") so the player protested against the price. Thanks.

Cheat code for changing a city name of an already built city in SimCity4??
Propfam replied to citybuilder234's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Additional info: you can change your mayor name too by insertibg hellomynameis mayor name cheat code. For instance, hellomynameis "City Therapy". Sorry for mistakes. Thanks. -
Sorry for turn back this topic on. If you need to separate it, it's fine. OK, I've following the site etiquette since beginning and only 1 time broke it with 1 consequence (all contents posted need moderation). But, my reputation point is less than my posts, so I am in state of reputation deficit. I've ported the sc4ever article as Omnibus article. I have organized a event for making the better plugin downloading system happen (check my profile activity for more info). I have made replies for question and recently, I have made FAQ for SimCity 4. But, there are some posts without many responses, including the Citysim Conference. Sorry for listing my contribution. I'm not being arrogant so I allowed people to criticize and suggest to my contributions. Also, my contributions are made solely for the community, not mod rank. Are those enough for me as (may not officially) mod candidate? Or, do I need few steps to be a mod candidate (especially regarding my low rep point)? Opinions are welcome. Thanks.

Yes, but my laptop battery doesn't last long. Unless if I have MacBook etc, this technique only works for short amount of time. I'm not rejecting your suggestion but it has problem in my laptop. Sorry for my reply. Thanks.

Do you stuck when installing SimCity 4? Or, do you want a fast game? Here are updated questions and answers that hopefully help you. Q: What's the ideal computer for running SimCity 4? A: In theory, all modern computers (running Windows XP and above) should run it smoothly, provided Pentium III CPUs, 32 MB GPU, 1 GB of RAM and around 10 GB of space or higher. But, for ideal gaming experience with mods, you need a high-end Core 2 Duo/Quad or equivalent and above CPU (Core i-series and m-series included) with minimum 4 GB of RAM and modern GPUs supporting DirectX 9. Even if the GPU is supporting DX 9, recent drivers may dropped it so be picky when choosing the right GPU for SC4. Also, use of SSD (SATA or M.2) is recommended, especially if you're want to install a tons of mods. Q: Can SimCity 4 runs on non-Windows OS? A: Yes, you can run it using Wine. However, for some reasons, some apps like Network Addon Mod (the most popular mod) installer doesn't work properly on latest Wine, so you need to install previous version(s) of Wine using PlayOnLinux or PlayOnMac. Q: Can the CD version works with the latest version of Windows or other platforms? A: No, it can't. Since Windows 10, Microsoft has been removed SafeDisc, a digital right management software used by the game for validating copies. Also, Wine doesn't include SafeDisc at all. So, it's recommended to buy the digital version (remember, don't buy on Origin. We'll get into in seconds) or redeem your key. Q: Is the digital versions patched? A: Yes (patched to 1.1.641), with exception of Origin. EA has been made the game sold from Origin to be unpatched and most importantly, unpatchable. The best place to buy SimCity 2000, 3000 and 4 is GoG.com or Steam because it's hassle-less and DRM-free. Note that if you purchase the game from the given link, Simtropolis will be get commissions. This keeping the community alive. Q: I've installed SimCity 4. Now, what should I do? A: Assuming you are using digital version, then you should add basic mods to your game according to this guide. After installing mods, you should read the manual available with the game or download here on the Maxis Files section. Also, this Lifewire article is going to help you too. (I was trying to find the rsc204 article but no results were got) Q: I want to customize my terrain. What should I pick: SD or HD terrain mods? A: If your game runs with the DirectX renderer (it should be default renderer, except if your hardware isn't compatible), then you are recommended to install the HD variant. You will get a high detail yet quality terrain. But, if your game runs with the software renderer, you can't use the HD variant. You can only use the SD variant. The disadvantage is lower detail and quality but with advantages of faster loading and light on system resources. Q: My computer shows "Can't load DirectX" message! What should I do? A: This can occur from incompatible GPU or its driver, or missing DLLs (especially for Wine). Be sure to check your GPU compatibility against DX 9 and check the driver too if the support for DX 9 isn't dropped. If still not succeed, you might try to install ddraw.dll available at https://www.dll-files.com/ddraw.dll.html. Don't forget to backup the original if already exists. Q: My game doesn't run at all. I need your help! A: Simply add -d:software parameter to the game's shortcut(s) available in Start Menu and (if you choose to place it) Desktop so the shortcut's command becomes your game path/Apps/SimCity 4.exe -d:software. It sets your renderer to software renderer so your HD terrain mods will not work. Also, if the problem persists, you can turn off the audio by adding -audio:off to the game's shortcuts. If the game works, the sound and/or graphics driver may not support the game. Try to update the driver and remove the stated parameters and add -audio:on to turn on the audio. You may remove it from the shortcuts if the game runs. Q: My game is often crashed. How do I do to fix it? A: This most probably occur on the non-GoG version since the flag doesn't exist. You can simply add -CPUCount:1 to the game's shortcuts. Q: The game doesn't expand to all areas of my screen. Am I missing something? A: Yes, you are. You need to add -CustomResolution:enabled to enable non-4:3 aspect ratio (ratio between width and height) monitor and -rwidthxheightxcolor depth. For instance, my laptop has 1366 by 768 screen (so, it's 16:9 ratio) and 32-bit color depth (actually, it's 24-bit because 32-bit is the color depth of an HDR monitor if I correct) so the startup parameter need to added is -CustomResolution:enabled -r1366x768x32. Q: I want to make the game less CPU-intensive and game pausing while the game is inactive! A: Add the needed startup parameters available at https://www.wiki.sc4devotion.com/index.php?title=Tutorial:Shortcut_Parameters. Q: Are there another communities other than this & SC4Devotion? A: Absolutely yes! There are City Builders (global), ToutSimCities (French), SimCityPolska (Poland), SimCity.cn (China) and more. In fact, Japanese SC4 community made quality mods same as Simtropolis & SC4Devotion. Q: What are meaning of BAT, terraforming, BSC etc that making myself confused? A: Indonesian community SimCity 4 Kaskus has been made the glossary available for anyone in Indonesian. Here's the translation of the original glossary: I hope this FAQ helps you. Critics and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
