  1. Wow ... This could be the best article that I've ever seen over the year ... I'm using wineskin for playing SC4 and running the tools, but still there're lots of issues and some tools just don't run at all (CTD immediately or just stay there but nothing could be done or rendering graphics bizarrely). I have been long time looking for re-comstructing SC4 and all tools with wine since it's more simple than wineskin (in fact with wineskin lots of stuffs are hidden behind the GUI) and I don't want to have a lots of wrappers of 500MBs just for one tool and change the config every time I want to switch from LE to ilive or vice versa. But wine seems to be much more complicated than wineskin.. By the way, for the game version I'd like to recommend GOG version rather than disk version... The first time I wrapped the disk version and upgraded it to 638, 640 and 641 but it was always buggy with quite a lot of graphic issues. Later I bought a GOG copy and used it to wrap ... It just worked perfectly as if it was designed to run on Mac OS X. For GMax, could it run nicely for the processus of introducing max models and convert to sc4models? And for the iLives Reader, it crashed immediately every time I tended to view a S3D file.. I was somehow sad (or upset?) while searching around for discussions and articles about playing games or using wine/wineskin ... Everyone just talked about bootcamp, parallel desktop (which I'll never use because it's just intolerable to see such kind of mix-up), purchasing a Mac App Store/Steam version or "Mac is not designed for gaming" or something like this ... Another questions: Are DAMN Manager, JENX Poseidon MOD, PEG SPAM usable with wine? (As for me none of these works.)
  2. Need Linux Bash Script Testers

Hi .. What does the script do? It would be for installing and initialising SC4 through wine or just running winetricks to config and setup an environment for a playable game or it covers from installing wine and all components needed? I think it'd be better to have some functions separated ... for example, a bash shell for installing wine and winetricks, another for configuration and another for running the game and so on... As for me I'm using a Macbook Air with macOS Sierra.I have been always playing this game with wineskin. I also installed wine (under cli through homebrew) but I couldn't setup the game with wine... Maybe winetricks are required. This operation system is Intel based (so does Snow Leopard?), as for the shell, it's homebrew + zsh (bash commands runnable?) and I'm not sure if I have installed gnutils ... I think there're still some differences between BSD commands and Linux commands, although I couldn't recognize them. By the way I knew someone working on wrapping a kind of automator for installing SC4 on windows, yet I've never succeeded in running that ... Those dotnet based programs work neither in wineskin nor in wine. ------------------ Well... I downloaded the file, placed it in my working directory, chmod +x it and ran it. Failed. # alice at MacBook-Air in ~/Documents/Workflow [0:53:28] $ ./InstWineWinetrix_crippled ./InstWineWinetrix_crippled: line 21: syntax error near unexpected token `>' ./InstWineWinetrix_crippled: line 21: ` echo "needpass2 = $needpass" &>> logfile.txt;; #Logs current value'
  3. SimCity 4 for Mac: Steam or App Store?

I think the best solution is to buy a GOG version and run it through wineskin (or possibly wine, I'll try this further)
  4. FAQ: FileJuicer and .exe installers

I may prefer wine rather than wineskin, but configuring wine and winetricks could be really complicated that I used wineskin for launching the game and some tools but wine for installing plugins. Neither do I know what the FileJuicer is and do I think that's something interesting. by the way is there anyone know how to use DAMN Manager effectively in Mac with wineskin? The tool runs perfectly within it but nothing was shown in-game.
  5. Town of Phenomia (Cathedral Hill)

From the album Ancient Civilizations (S3-14-M)

A town that I created nearly 5 years ago. Posted on SCCN. The town was designed to fit the XIV ~ XVI century colony style at the time when I was working over it. Main Cathedral and some mansions, castles are created with LE, road, plazas and more houses are plotted with customized-by-myself modular Lots. This picture shows the hill towards the ocean with a Cathedral and some mansions.
  6. Show us how you manage your plugin folder

The same issue was raised when I was discussing with another friend who's playing SC4. He said exactly like what you replied, that SC4 will index the files (even though that's useless). I used to disable and enable plugins without moving them out of the ./Plugins folder but by simply adding and removing the suffix ".disabled" (e.g. thisIsALot.sc4lot.disabled), and he doubted it. So I tried to catch the SC4 process and have a look at what's inside.. The game will index all files below ./Plugins and at least will read in all plugin files (by their file head, we guessed). This is why I have created the subfolders outside ./Plugins to put those disabled plugins. I think you're right, my way of managing plugins is still very far to perfect and these files might be source of instability assuming that the ./Plugins directory becoming huge and by time. The only reason that I still have them in my ./Plugins directory may be that moving these files will do harm to the integrity of a "plugin" -- even when I disable a plugin, I will move its parent folder instead of simply move it out. I wonder if there's a way of keeping the integrity of a plugin and a "clean" Plugins folder at the same time..
  7. Great Wall of China Scene 1

Maxis Castle Sets seems to be somehow weird with its orthogonal shapes and they are a bit too tiny.. But the scenario is really amazing.. It reminds of some old games like Age of Empire ..
  8. Summerset-Central-Park's-Night

From the album Night Scenes (S3-12-E)

A suburb zone of the Metropolis of Summerset, a project that's under progress. Expressway and Tram connect districts into a metropolis. There's almost no one at the midnight, yet the trams carry those last passengers to their home.
  9. Downtown Prometheus

    Impressive lightning!
  10. Show us how you manage your plugin folder

My way of managing plugins may be a bit different. I started to use a Macbook in late 2014, and was greatly inspired by the Tags system that could be found in Finder - another way to organize things without indicating categories explicitly in folder names. As I am using a wineskin port to play a SimCity4, it won't be interesting to put plugins into virtualized (aliased) Drive C. I just put them into another folder that's aliased into ~/Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins. Luckily enough that it's also the default folder for any exe installer running over wineskin. Beside this folder I created a folder ~/Documents/SimCity 4/Plugins-Disabled for some plugins that'd be temporarily disabled, or some plugins that come with options, e.g. Mas71's JPN Wall Sets, and another folder ~/Documents/SC4Plugins-Disabled for further arrangement. I created a markdown file DependencyTrack.md under Plugins folder in order to have a note over plugins installed and disabled, and their dependencies. The structure like following: # All Plugins ## Mods ### NAM _independent_, [Install directory](Network\ Addon\ Mod/) Self dependencies under [directory](z___NAM/) ... ### Texture ... - BSC Parks - Texture Set - [] Default - [x] AngledBrick - [] BrownBrickLarge - [] BrownDirt - [] GreyPavers - [] GreyRock - [] RedBrickSmall - [] SandPavers ... ## Dependencies ### SC4D LEX - BSC Essentials (BSC/BSC Essentials.dat && BSC/BSC_Reward_essential.dat) * BSC MEGA Props Misc Vol02 (BSC/BSCProps/BSC MEGA Props - Misc Vol 02.dat) * BSC Textures Vol01 (BSC/BSCTextures/BSC Textures Vol 01.dat) * BSC Textures Vol02 (BSC/BSCTextures/BSC Textures Vol 02.dat) * BSC Textures Vol03 (BSC/BSCTextures/BSC Textures Vol 03.dat) ... ## Lot & BATs ... ### Civics - Safety - Mattb325 Police Headquarters BSC/Mattb325/Police Headquarters * BSC MEGA Props Gascooker Vol01 * BSC Essentials * PorkieProps_Vol02 ... ## Tools ## Maps ## DevSets ## MyPlugins The first and most important plugin that come around is NAM, which is independent to any other plugins and indispensable to the game. Between parenthesis is the directory address. For dependencies it goes a bit different, as each dependency file has its file address in parenthesis. Common Lot/BATs will have a new line to indicate its/their parent-directory, and below a sublist for all dependencies. Some plugins have further informations that need to be note down, such as a dependency that's useless, or some failure, or something else, then I will take a new line for it (something like commenting in a program). For plugins that come with options (also CPT Terrains), I will select one from options and put others into the disabled folder (I tried to add a suffix of .disabled but the fact that SimCity 4.exe will load all files in ./Plugins made this impossible). With this file I could finally achieve what I'd like to see: All plugins keep their default installation folder (for BSC, SFBT plugins) and the least necessary modification over filename and folder structure (for plugins that come from Hide-inoki, SOMY, CapitalSim, etc., I create a folder for each developer and put his/her plugins together, if there're so many plugins necessary to arrange). And this works even for maps, tools and originate plugins. For documentations, I just unzip simply things into ./Plugins as what plugins do. Because I think I will need to frequently revisit them. Since SC4 Game do nothing with those html, txt, jpg files, they won't do harm. By the way I prefer the way to do the management with some metadata, which means that I couldn't have much to do with these documentations ... As they're not metadata but the data that in level of operation.
  11. I was using search to find some sc4 lots that fits the Tokyo style. And thereby I found something like this: Apparently someone had commented several files with a same content and his comments bring lots of files that have nothing to do with Tokyo into my search result. This could be a bit annoying. Regarding the time that he posted his comments ... Is there some way to hide his contents in a search?
  12. Reminiscent - Aenopolis

    ## Preface Hello, pleased to meet you, it's the first time for me to post a CJ over Simtropolis. I'm alicenychto from simcity.cn. This is a finished project that covers a middle-size map, with around 230k ~ 260k residents. I used another 5 mid-size maps to create demands and jobs, including 3 functional and 2 with landscapes (might be used for my future projects). The traffic seems to be congealed and there's problems with my urban planning, though. Reminiscent will be a series of projects that covers something of my memoria. I don't know when will it lasts. Aenopolis is a name that imagined by myself, that should be something about wind and air. I haven't worked on Simcity 4 for years and this is the return after long-time deadly silence, after that I finished my configuration of SC4 over my Mac with a wineskin winery. Luckily the game runs perfectly to me. So that's all. Thank you very much. -- June 13, 2016, Alice Nychto. ---
  13. Bank One Building

Very nice building Good for mid-rise and urban commercial ..
  14. Advice how to build a Chinese city

It's nice to search some CJs and use search engines such as Google to do some researches before constructing a very first city and find some plugins such as HKABT or add some Japanese buildings. But you don't need to disable all Maxis buildings to build a Chinese style city (though it's true that lots of vanilla buildings don't match the image of a Chinese style city), assuming that you won't build a 100% ancient or medieval Chinese scenario. Although I have never build anything like a real Chinese town, but I think it'd be better if you have an idea of what you'd like to build, its style and approach (continental metropolis, or Taiwanese towns, or HK high-rises, or something else?), if there's a reference existent in real world or someone else's CJ, or some images, other games, or something totally imaginary. You don't need to have a lot of East Asian buildings, a great palace complex and huge zones of Siheyuans to make a Chinese city, there's something more interesting behind these buildings, although a Maxis vanilla city is usually boring. The Simcity China is still available: www.simcity.cn, and you don't need to sign in for CJ or most of articles in plugins categories (at least for SC4). A good translator might be helpful. There're not many new articles since 2013, but you could find some old post that might be inspiring. http://www.simcity.cn/thread-103496-1-1.html Here's some of the best works from Chinese CJs. http://www.simcity.cn/thread-114331-1-1.html http://www.simcity.cn/thread-25228-1-1.html http://www.simcity.cn/thread-145416-1-1.html Some CJs that I think are typically of Chinese architectural and aesthetic flavors. http://www.simcity.cn/thread-85631-1-1.html This is my favorite CJ. Although it's more likely of Japanese taste, but I think it's interesting in its nuancee and selection of props. Those CPT Season Trees, transparent water, BSC Parks and Meadowshire texture are all very common things. And if you could bear infinity ads and dig into numerous posts to find something really interesting you can also have a look at tieba. But I think the following 2 posts will just be enough (with Google translation): http://tieba.baidu.com/p/3928818231 This post introduces some of the best works and analyzes how they homogenized the architectural style and created the respective atmosphere. Some of these CJs tried to make an approach to modern or ancient Chinese style. However making some ancient scenario will be a bit difficult because you would need to use lots of Japanese props, and westernized trees (CP Trees, for example), as few Chinese players have invested in making plugins and even the plugins that you could get are somehow not in high quality. http://tieba.baidu.com/p/3524337029?pn=2 Some general suggestions about transition between urban zone and agricultural areas using satellite maps. And don't forget to use SC4Mapper to resize your map to a perfect scale and start your network with NAM ;-) ------ There's a Chinese SC4er active in Simtropolis (who specialized in ancient Chinese gardens and palaces), you may want to ask him for some advices @weixc812 Good luck >_<
  15. Reminiscent - Aenopolis

    ### Nanopolis This is a small city particularly built to test FLUPs and GLR networks. The city style is still a mixture. ---------------------------------------------------- ### Paranoma
  16. Reminiscent - Aenopolis

    ### Project Aenopolis 2016.5.29 ~ 2016.6.5 Last update: 2016.6.5 Publish: 2016.6.13 The urban area has almost covered the map, and it has a population of nearly 230~240k. Mid class residents have grown and became the main class of the city so far. I am trying to cover all the corner of the map as I can. Yet I have badly designed the network and functional zoning.. Railway, bus, monorail, highway and subway are all full of passengers ... The map became therefore a kind of eye candy rather than simulation ≥.≤ ### Paranoma It's getting dark. The rain started. ### Rendered pictures (thanks to Pixelmatr >_<) The sun has given its last spark and artificial lightnings are getting on. Time to get home, though rain is getting bigger. Moon flowed over the cloud, rain is calming down. Halfway to home. It's raining so hard. Wondering if there would be some children playing beside the lake? Mid-night. No more passenger. Welcome back home. Oyasumi. Good night. Dreamin' ... The streets, the buildings, seem to be so familiar. If there would be those friends of childhood? Good morning. ### Street View These pictures show the details of the metropolitan area, and its main functional zones. - The principal commercial area, that's around the Avenue of Sunset Sky. Pedestrian areas connect boutiques and offices to subway, elevated rail and GLR system. - The El Station, which was designed to be the center of the nexus zone ... Being laid aside. Yet the forest behind the Stock Exchange, Commercial Chamber and Metropolitan Academy, being the largest and the only primordial forest, has been a good place for citizens to have a rest... - The Service zone near the exposition hall have been seeing the development of the city's commercials and construction. Now it has become a new business area. Not far from it is the Autumn Stone Park and the Avenue of Autumn Stone Gardens. - The edge of the Airport. It's no longer a wild suburb after the installation of the Great Museum and the Medical Institution. - the Avenue of Autumn Stone Gardens (I should connect it to the 2 adjacent avenues) - The forest and Central Park near the academy, surrounded by commercial districts and high-rise residences. - The Sunset Sky commercial zone is aligned with the road and high-railway, until the roundabout before the City Hall. From where the Avenue of End of Summer and High Street of Crescent Luna conjoint. The plazas around the Hall and commercial area are open to public, therefore visitors can have a walk from boutiques until the Hall, and take an after-lunch tea and wait the sunset in a tea house. - Municipal Police Department is at the end of the Avenue of Sunset Sky. - The skyline of the Streets of Autumn Stone Gardens has been occupied by high density residences. They come from different classes but I'd like to make a mixture of different peoples. (And brown box XD although I confirm that all dependencies are prepared) - Let's come back to the origin of the city... The two commercial galleries of diamond shape. I call it the Plaza of Stars, surrounded by w2w zones. - Another, with a more classical street, is called Lakeside Gallery. - Outskirt of these 2 diamonds are occupied by high density residences. (That's why my traffic is congealed severely...) - Mid and High revenue families could be found even in the south town that's developed from low income families. Gardens, of course. - The commercial zones beside the Airport of Edge of Clouds is the last zone that designed, with a long underground gallery. - North of which is the greatest low cost residential project carried by the Municipality. It's near the zoo and beside the Autumn Stone Gardens. The lake was designed to reserve water but it has also become a good place for leisures, with some good restaurants and facilities. - The roundabout, right of which is Avenue of End of Summer and up of which is the Street of Crescent Luna. - At last, the journey ends up before this station - which is not so big. ### Append At last, this is my first urban project. Bienvenue au Aenopolis. ### Status Finished: June 5, 2016 Reviewed for descriptive texts : June 12, 2016 No more update to be forecasted. The map may be reviewed and some details may be taken for my next project. ##EOF## /*Please report if images are failed to load. Thank you */
  17. Which plug-ins folder to use?

I'm using a wineskin wrapper and my folder is under ~/Documents/Simcity 4/Plugins, directly in user contents directory.. and I prefer this folder since it can isolate the program and custom contents. I don't know if there's a possibility to create an alias to any customized directory under the default folder and it could be loaded by the game. This might be helpful for organizing user contents.
  18. Hi, recently I wrapped a Simcity 4 (an old Deluxe Edition CD) on my Mac with wineskin. It was inspired by the Reddit discussion and I managed to work out with lightning plugin buildings and BAT. I have been also running LE, iLives and gmax with wineskin. To switch its language I copied a backup of my old locale file (cause I am no longer using windows machine) and modified the registry file with regedit. Though, even if the game can load the maps with non-english filename, the save file will get destroyed once it's being saved and a blank map will replace it. Getting a bit confusing ... I have been working with a bundle of plugins (Plugins folder of 1.6GB including NAM's newest release ver 34), and I haven't encountered big issues... Another small issue could be that sometimes the game will CTD frequently (though I tried to eliminate it, such as limit the CPU core to 1), in some maps. Normally these maps may have some extreme terrains, tunnels, etc. But I noticed another case in a smooth terrain, thinking it might be because I used some plugins (maybe SOMY's HD residences?). However the maps with NAM I'm thinking if it might be the CPU usage overheat that caused CTD ... but is there a way to make the game support multiple core and larger RAM occupation? For the LotEditor, in Windows usually Ctrl + Up/Down is used to move an object over Z direction. But the Mac OS X has already reserved these keys to the Mission Control. I don't know how to deal with it... Sorry for my poor english ... Thank you in advance...
  19. Modding tools for Mac?

Hi, I'm playing Simcity 4 with a bundle of plugins over wineskin and I can confirm that nearly all modding tools, including LE, ilives, PluginMan and BAT could be running smoothly on Mac OS X with wineskin (and of course a bit of configuration, I used winetricks and some custom commands). However some features are not available, mostly due to the graphic rendering, and some due to the locale. It's impossible to read S3D entities over ilives, and the textures in gmax looks a bit bizarre. Still looking for some solutions over it but I don't have many confidence ... anyway if you only want to build up custom lots and modify some entities these could be enough. BTW SC4Mapper and NAM Controller can be also installed and used as a wineskin wrapper. In wine it might be a bit different but I think its feasible.
