  13. Mystery Skyscraper Game

Congratulations, K_m_H. Right country, city, and building, which is good for a 14-point sweep. Mystery Skyscraper #8 is Palace of Culture and Science, Warsaw, Poland. PCS Facts The Palace of Culture and Science, or Palac Kultury i Nauki, was completed on July 22, 1955 and handed over to the Polish people as a gift from the Soviet Union in the memory of Josef Stalin. This classic example of Soviet architecture, like other Soviet skyscrapers of the time, is designed to convey power and dominance of the landscape. PSC is still Poland's tallest building today, standing at 231 meters (757 feet) tall with 43 stories. The building is also the world's second-tallest clock tower since four clocks were added to its crown in 2000, behind Tokyo's NTT DoCoMo Tower. I had never heard of Fakt, but assumed it was a Polish company of some sort. I figured this one would be pretty easy, just a matter of finding the correct Soviet tower, as they are all quite similar. Kudos on recognizing that, simwario. Scoring: K_m_H + 14 Here's Mystery Skyscraper #9: http://picturehosting.simvision.net/uploads/post-23-1104645844.jpg width=384 border=0>

  16. Mystery Skyscraper Game

Congratulations, erka. Right building, which is good for 8 points. Mystery Skyscraper #6 is International Plaza, Singapore, Singapore. International Plaza Facts International Plaza is Singapore's 12th-tallest building, coming in at 190 meters (624 feet) tall. Construction on the 50-story tower was completed in 1976. The Modernist building is located at 10 Anson Road in Singapore's central core. This was Singapore's tallest tower upon completion in 1976, but was quickly eclipsed by I.M. Pei's OCBC Centre that same year. The building was designed by Ang Kheng Leng and Associates. Scoring: erka + 8 This distinctively-styled skyscraper would be Mystery Skyscraper #7. http://picturehosting.simvision.net/uploads/post-23-1104564307.jpg width=352 border=0>
  17. Mystery City: Europe

Congratulations, mies. Mystery City #13 is Kassel, Germany. Kassel Facts Kassel was first mentioned in 913 as a fortification at a bridge over the Fulda River. The town was first said to have city rights in 1189. By the 1500s Kassel (Cassel until 1926) had grown into a sizeable town and became capital of the state of Kassel-Hesse after Hesse dissolved in 1567. The city was a center of Protestantism and a refuge for the Huegenots in the 1600s. Kassel was home to the Brothers Grimm in the 1800s and was where they wrote their fairy tales. In 1803 Kassel-Hesse became an electorate, but the state was annexed by Napoleon in that year. The electorate was restored in 1813. In 1866 Prussia annexed the region. Under Prussian control, Hesse-Kassel, Nassau, and Frankfurt united, with Kassel no longer the capital. On October 22, 1943, British bombers destroyed 90% of Kassel's center, killing over 10,000 people and leaving over 150,000 homeless. Most of the destroyed area was not restored, instead rebuilt in the Modernist style. Around 200,000 people live in Kassel today. Scoring mies <> +8 Now that we've left Kassel, here we are in: Mystery City 15 http://picturehosting.simvision.net/uploads/post-23-1104560739.jpg width=640 border=0> Where am I? >>Note: Due to the frequent moving of Simtropolis Picture Hosting, which has proven a frequently unreliable source, all of the pictures are down. I have no plans to put them back up, then reroute all of the photos to the site, because that would take a really really long time.
  18. Mystery City: World Edition 3

Congratulations, mies. Mystery City #9 is Kathmandu, Nepal. Kathmandu Facts Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, lies in a spectacularly scenic Kathmandu Valley in the foothills of the Himalaya Mountains, near the River Vishnumati. The city was legendarily founded by King Gun Kamdev in 723 AD and is the site of multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites, many of them temples and pagodas related to the Buddhist faith. Kathmandu is home to about 500,000 people. Scoring mies +8 Now we're off to... Mystery City 10: http://picturehosting.simvision.net/uploads/post-23-1104560194.jpg width=640 border=0> Where am I?
