  1. Just watched Phreakindee's "LGR : SIMCity Retrospective" video on Youtube and boy was it a learning experience So the idea for the upcoming SIMCity game's multi-player experience is not a new idea after all
  2. SIMTown is supposed to be the pre-cursor to SIMCity Societies or rather SCS is SIMTown's spiritual successor.
  3. You're welcome guys Just remember, I only posted a link to the video and I did not make it. It would be a good idea to go to Phreakindee's Youtube page and post your thanks to his review on there
  4. A Different Perspective...

Quoted from the topic starter's post. Just so everyone knows, I'm one of those not thoroughly impressed by the glassbox engine. Yes it is a better simulation of SIM activity within your city, but that's what SIMCity is NOT Originally about. The game was originally about you managing your resources (Budget) in order to build and maintain a thriving city. The SIM inhabitants were just some numerical value you had to work into your management plan to keep your city living. Heck even in SC4 the SIMs can whine about not having a hospital or school and you could still keep your city going. Then when SIMCity Societies came they added the SIMs wants and mood as factors you must watch over in order to keep them "happy" or at least contended to go to work or stay in your city. And with this upcoming game they've totally moved away from the game's besic premise and had moved onto "SIMs needs management". As I posted on the "SIMCity or CitiesXL" Poll thread, seeing as this new SIMCity is also a one core hogger, et al it solely runs on one processing core of a computer just like CXL, I'd rather have my game's resources be gobbled up by the game rendering a larger and richer city than wasting resources doing worthless calculations to simulate worthless SIMs. And yes, I DO MEAN THAT.... SIM inhabitants are WORTHLESS, it's the cities that matter most, which is why I can tolerate CXL's seemingly random and retarded simulated city inhabitants doing random things like dancing on top of benches and/or randomly spinning a hoola hoop then walking off to nothingness. And sadly, I am aware of Focus Home Interactive milking the cow by releasing a lackluster expansion/new release of Cities XL dubbed "Platinum" with little additions added and the game still riddled with bugs and problems (the no support for multi-core processors issue still not being fixed as a major issue) but still, I'd rather buy this than this upcoming SIMCity reboot.
  5. SimCity Vs Cities Xl 2012

I choose CitiesXL 2012. Why you might ask? Well I read a comment someone has posted over at the "Beta testers" thread saying that this upcoming SIMCity game only relies on ONE (1) processing core of a modern day CPU much like CitiesXL was. So even if your computer is a monster with lots of RAM and a powerful GPU (or two.. or three that you link via SLI) it wouldn't matter because the game will eventually lag not only because of your connection to the game's server/s but also because the game is not optimized for multi-core PCs. Now the fact that the game will lag has a major bearing to my choice between the two. See this upcoming game will most likely lag due to the glassbox engine simulating thousands of Agents and SIMs. And as I've read someone else's comment on one of these SIMCity reboot discussion threads had mentioned, the smaller city tile decision on the developers' side was made to accommodate for this heavy load on a system running the glassbox engine, and not because of too many resources handling rendering of buildings and structures. So yeah... Glassbox engine equals richer simulation of sims in a city but in exchange we'd sacrifice bigger city tiles. CitiesXL however does things similar to how SC4 did things before, but this time around the resources goes to rendering richer full 3D Buildings. In the end it is a choice between "better" SIM Simulation (of whom I still am not so impressed) versus bigger and richer cityscapes (but devoid of realistic virtual people goings on), of whom for me the choice is clear.... bigger and richer cityscapes! "To Hell with every individual Agent or SIM!", I say. I like building cities for my own enjoyment and not for every other Dick and Jane living in it. And speaking of enjoying the city I create.... does this new SIMCity even allow you to "dive" right in into your city and see things in first person perspective as if you were a citizen in your created city just like in CXL? Or all we're getting is this tilt shift hoozafudge that locks things in an aerial perspective? If I can't dive right in into my city on this new game then that's another minus point for me. Also, "Boo!" to always online, DLC and no single player mode
  6. Discussion about City Tile Size

Especially if you have the RHW installed. Because the RHW is better scaled than the Maxis default highways, you really need those bigger tiles to fit everything neatly.
  7. Discussion about City Tile Size

I apologize if what I'm about to say will sound rude but... To be honest I do not care for the glassbox engine at all. I'm one of those SC4 players who actually use cheat mods so I don't have to bother with the whole city management dribble because what I really want is to build, build build! I want to build a city as how I want it to look because that's what the game promised me.... that I can build any city I want! So why should I bother with what every individual virtual citizen would want? For those kinds of SIMs the Matrix Energy Stations is what awaits them... ... If you ask me, instead of focusing on a better simulation of life, et al the glassbox engine, what they should have done for this upcoming SIMCity game was to update SC4's graphics to something like CitiesXL offers, fix the inherent bugs that SC4 has (like the water plop bug), add missing elements like a sewage system and finally offer an online multiplayer service that is optional.
  8. Mayhap I make a name suggestion ala Anime inspired How about "SIMCity R"? R of course referring to the fact that this new game is a reboot. Or how about "SIM Global Economics".... Build your own town & let the economy crumble! Now you can make policies that will ruin society & anger the people
  9. Gameplay wise, I've had that feeling that SIMCity 2013 "DID" take a page out of SIMCity Societies' playbook right after I saw the first videos that explained how the glassbox engine works. In those videos there was this part where the speaker who was explaining things said something about fulfilling the SIM Agents' needs. That is, if a SIM is unhappy or is sick he won't go to work. And again, with the first actual gameplay demonstration video the speaker mentions that commercial zones are setup to satisfy SIMs' entertainment/leisure needs. This mechanic is something that was taken directly from SIMCity Societies as in that game buildings did not just offer jobs but offer services that do cater to specific SIMs' needs or desires. By the way, I may be throwing myself into the shark tank or lions' den here for saying this but.... I actually enjoy SIMCity Societies. My one gripe about is though is there aren't just enough buildings to choose from. RFE (Reason for Edit) : Had to fix some typos.
  10. SimCity: Gameplay

Ugh~! Can you believe all those "graphics whores"... forgive the rude sounding term and let me give its meaning... "Graphics whore" - someone who claim themselves as hard core gamers but actually only care for stunning & "better" graphics, not actual game mechanics. ... who've been commenting on the gameplay video for SIMCity 2013 as well as on people who do "Lets Plays" of SC4, such as this one: Look for the comment of the guy whose Youtube account name iis "Ghost Ghoslik" or so & read his stupid comment. Just because this new game is visually better than SC4 he exclaims that SC4 is a joke. The jerk fails to realize that to the "real" die hard SC4 fans of Simtropolis & other SC4 fanbase communities out there the new game IS the laughable game seeing as EA's policies will lead to the game's failure.
  11. SimCity: Gameplay

Have you guys read most of the comments of people on the gameplay video, especially with regards to possible DLC? There's this one guy who pointed out his disappointment over the game's lack of Agricultural zoning & the ability of creating farming/rural towns. And although there are those who agree with his gripe along with other peoples' anxieties with regards to no Terraforming, small city tiles, no subways etcetera, there were actually people who said that things like farming could be a DLC they are willing to purchase. Seriously!? 0_o Gamers these days are willing to spend money on something that could have been added all along in the base game as is? The game costs 50+ dollars as is & they're willing to throw away more money for a single item?
  12. The terrain of OKINAWA Ocean City - Front Mission 3

I love Front Mission 3 as it is the first (& I think only) video game that featured my country.... although bombing Batangas was not so enjoyable 5/5 Stars for your map!

  14. money tree

Another money tree?? Seriously people either you use the "moolah" cheat that comes with the extracheats.dll, the "legalize Gambling" Ordinance or the Cousin Vinnie Ordinance all of which are far superior than any so called money tree lot could ever be.
  15. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Good day everyone This time I'm looking for cobble stone fences I could use to line countryside roads making them look like the roads seen on episodes of Postman Pat: I've been using this set to get that effect: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=2074 And these for the wooden fence entrances: https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=1888 But my one qualm with these two sets is that the fences are lined up to one side. I really wish there is another set that has the fences in the middle. There is this set: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/12984-dry-stone-walls/ But I can't find a corresponding wooden fence with gates that are centered like that. Also another qualm I have with the Dry stone walls set is that they are not grouped together in the Parks menu, well they are but if you have other sets that occupy the parks menu those other stuff can mess the dry stone walls set's group order.
  16. Small Money Plant

Nice looking lot, but 4.2 million a month! Money lots such as these can cause the "you are such a great mayor you should run for senator" syndrome so that's no good. To be honest I can't understand why people would want money lots that give excessive amounts of simoleons per month like this. Well OK, I do use a money cheat, namely the "Cousin Vinnie Ordinance" mod, but I only use it so I could pay up the 90k+ maintenance cost for the upkeep of another great STEX Download which is the "City Facilities Central" by happyapple. So to reiterate my views on this download, good looking lot, bad implementation of a money cheat.

Fantastic! Thanks for the heads up De Ja Vu I'm off to get GrampaAl's mod then
  24. Can't find it?... Ask here!

Now I'm confused? You said you are looking for a certain canal set & as Yarahi pointed out, the canals you were after were Manchou's village canals. And now you are looking for pieces for the CSK (which is from a totally different set PEG Channel Stream kit or PPond CSK add-on) that comes with Manxhou's set? Don't you think those CSK bits are maybe Dependencies you need to download separately from the PLEX? Anyhoo.. I need some help understanding these two Mods: https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/16472-tileset-mod-farms/ https://www.simtropolis.com/forum/files/file/21344-prevent-ir-lots/ According to both their descriptions, these mods block Maxis default I-R (Agriculture) lots from ever growing. My question is, by "lots" what exactly do they block? the Farms (lots with building) or the farm fields? Or perhaps both? If they do only block Maxis farms, is there a mod that blocks the Maxis fields as well? Those non-seasonal & bland Maxis fields are absolutely atrocious, especially the earthy tilled soil one that stays that way all year round, yuck! Compare that to SG's, BLS's, CSX's & SPAM farms & you'll know how I'm currently feeling So, is there a mod that blocks those fields? Or will any of the two I posted above will do just that?
  25. Can't find it?... Ask here!

@Yarahi: That's a major bummer about his Farm Pack 3, but thanks to you I've finally got his Farm Packs 1, 2 & 4 running perfectly Now I'm off to see if his farms & SPAM Farms can get along or not
