We have a thread on here for showing our pictures, but why not one for our furry little friends? Here is my Daisy - a miniature dachshund I rescued from a neglectful home in Washington state. Speaking of rescuing... I implore anyone on here who is thinking of getting a new cat/dog/etc to go to the Humane Society or your local shelter/rescue instead of going to the pet store! The controller in the background is because I was going down memory lane and playing the original "Super Mario" game

For many years, the M3 ran from the southwest up into downtown, turned into a surface street (Mariners' Avenue), went around the waterfront, and finally resumed its course north as a motorway again. This gap in the motorway system has finally been closed via a new stretch constructed as a double-decker dual carriageway. See the inset in the image below for a map of the general area. New construction is highlighted in red. Here is the exit at Broadway. We had to raze a swath of land one full city block in width to construct the motorway and few people wanted to build directly adjacent to it. So, much of this strip has been converted to open spaces and parkland. This also helps dampen the sound. Here is M3 at Emporia. Below we have the northern end of the project. The old portion (coming from the left) is no longer signed as the M3 and is now simply just Mariner's Parkway. The new portion begins as a double decker in the upper right. Lastly, we have the southern terminus. This was one of the more complicated interchanges I have made. PS: About the lack of signs, the State DOT workers were on their coffee break when they were being passed out . Rest assured, they are being installed as we speak .

Just made this giant. The image looks choppy at left because I pasted imagery from the adjacent city tile to illustrate the 8 lanes of expressway crammed along the avenue. The avenue serves local traffic while the expressway is strictly to serve a large business district not shown here.

A lot of stuff seems a little overcomplicated; the MIS that goes between the ponds for example could be pulled off a little more "elegantly" by branching it off parallel to the highway it comes out of, then putting it across both sides of the highway, bringing it back down, parallel to the highway and merging it in again. Don't know if I'm any good at explaining what I mean, but basically, it doesn't need to do two sharp right turns and one sharp left if it just went over the highway ahead of it with a 90° FlexFly arrangement. There is insufficient space on this small tile for that arrangement.

I just wanted to throw my two cents since I just suffered this irritation a moment ago. I am running Windows 8 and the above method does work. I did have to alter how I accessed the command prompt as Windows 8 does not have the Start button that we are used to. I navigated to the command prompt in Explorer (C:\Windows\System32\cmd) and right-clicked on it to select "Run as Administrator".

Hrm... That looks like many highways here... They were originally paved with concrete and then re-paved over the years with asphalt because it was cheaper at the time.

Toll booth / parking entrance and exit for RHW 4 (RHD)

Nonny, it has been tried before and it failed. If I recall correctly, metrication was attempted in the 1970s. Arizona has a few road signs in metric as remnants of that attempt.

EA Says SimCity 'Has Recovered From a Challenging Launch'
AIX commented on Haljackey's article in News
$50 says the servers are shut down within 2 years. Shall we get a pool going? -
This is not an interchange between two motorways per se, but an interchange between two major arterials with expected speeds of about 50 km/h. Avenida 4 de Julio is the large street with up to 8 lanes in each direction. I am looking to replicate something similar to this: http://goo.gl/maps/hLGew in Buenos Aires, Argentina. This large boulevard will be the apex of commerce and culture for the region. Local Sims will say "Everything is on Avenida 4 de Julio!".

A multi-modal connection between two cities.

Hello Simtropians and Thessalonians! Today I have some images of the very first completed phase of Project TREX (Transportation Expansion). The final project will encompass about 26 km of highway with the ultimate goal to maintain these basic standards through out the entire project area: * Both Express (High Speed) and Local Access lanes * Minimum of of 3 Express lanes and 2 Local Access lanes in each direction * Safety features designed to allow speeds of up to 200 km/h on Express Lanes and 125 km/h on Local Access Lanes * Funding for this project is being provided by the federal government under the condition that a right-of-way is left open to allow for future construction of high-speed rail Eventually all limited-access highways in the region will be upgraded to these standards as need and growth permits (except the downtown M3 Bypass). First, here is an overview map showing the project area. The green portion is Phase 1 and is already complete. We placed Phase I in the city of Meteora because this is the busiest section on the entire project. In addition, the existing right-of-way is the wider in this area than anywhere else on the project, so minimal demolition was necessary. Below is an aerial of the section. Currently, the Local Access and Express lanes merge into a single standard highway at the borders of Meteora. Once other sections are completed, that will no longer be the case. Lastly, here is an old file image of the area before construction. There were Express Lanes here before the project, but on a much smaller scale.

A bit late on the comment train, but those apartments look so much like the old Pruitt-Igoe public housing in Saint Louis.

Any news regarding providing the source?
AIX replied to impulze's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
You are incorrect. While Sim City 4 and Sim City 3000 are in the same franchise, they were not built on the same "core code". -
To be honest, I don't see the rampant "+1 begging" on here that exists on Youtube. Yes, Simtropolis has the +1 mechanism available, but people aren't begging for the up votes. To be honest, I find the culture here on Simtropolis far more "refined" and "mature" than the culture on Youtube. I think +1s are more a way to quickly evaluate a poster's overall contributions to the forum than the merits of a single post. If I were a new member to these fora today and asked a question, but got two responses - one from someone with 1,000 points and another from someone with 1 point, I may take the high-reputation user more seriously than the low-reputation user.

SimCity Update: Straight Answers from Lucy
AIX replied to Districtopia's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
I read that ... EA wants to take this game in a new direction and I say let them. I have SC4 (and 3000, 2000, and original) at my disposal to play any time without needing servers or the approval of EA. As a Libertarian... I say let the free market ride on this issue. -
I had no idea "AIX" was so widely used. On other sites where "AIX" isn't available, I often go by "Jeremie NX". The "NX" often refers to the class designation for experimental starships in Star Trek (Enterpise series excluded). I am always the first to sign up for betas or try new/unproven software, so I think it fits.
