Just continiue the title sentence. I'll start ... I remember when door-to-door bread, milk, and egg deliveries were made with a horse and wagon.

A lot of the stuff in American Politics is really world scope things that the US happens to be involved with. I think it deserves to be separated from actual political affairs in the U.S.A. because the subject matter is broader than even continental political stuff. There has been a lot of discussion of the Afghanistan affair, often to the detriment of the original topic. I would like all that to be here now. This is also a good place to talk about things such as the proposal to the G20 banking group, and the IATAs stance on dust in the atmosphere. This should be a good collection point for all such discussions, and a branch out can be made if the topic warrants it.

Well, what? Currently, I am sipping some very old rum (straight up in a snifter) and nibbling on some grapes from Chile. -

The Moose Factory - Virtual Bar and Grill - Version 3
A Nonny Moose posted a topic in General Off-Topic
Welcome to the Moose Factory. For newcomers, service is via the autosystem which consists of an autoserver for food service and an autobar for drinks. Anyone present may order any food or drink item and it is served immediately. No takeout. Alcoholic beverages ordered by minors will be dealcoholized automatically, so use your imagination. To honor our new opening, the bar is serving Orange Blossom cocktails until Sunday evening. Enjoy. Try our new hot Buffalo Chicken Wings. These go best with a heavier beer such as ale, or Guiness if you have the guts. Welcome all. We will try to make your stay enjoyable. Please note that the back room may be used for whatever you like, but remember that the KK dragon has been known to lurk there. He is a nice dragon, and baby sits the kids if they get too obnoxious. Anyone with links to the old list should change to this one. I did. -
First of all, let me say that this method assumes you have only one bad plugin that is causing trouble and that your test when you installed it didn't find the problem and you accepted it not knowing that there would be trouble later. Start: Save your entire plugins folder to some safe folder. Divide your plugins into approximately two equal halves. Put one of the halves into your Plugins folder Test the game, thoroughly to provoke the problem If the problem does not occur, this set is safe. It remains in your plugins folder. If not swap the two halves and test again. If this set is OK, it becomes your first safe set and stays in the plugins folder. If not, you are outside this algorithm because you have more than one bad plugin. You will have to seek other solutions. Point X: From this point we assume that you have a safe set of plugins in the Plugins folder and the remaining set elsewhere. Divide the remaining set into halves. Put one of them in the Plugins folder being sure you can get them out easily (use a folder) Test the game. If all is well, go to Point X: If this set now fails, remove the last set and replace it with the other half. Test again. This should be OK, but if not, you have more than one problem, so exit. Otherwise go to Point X: Continue dividing until you have a set of only one plugin that tests bad. This is the culprit. You can then restore your saved plugins suite, and remove the guilty party. End:

Things have been a little quiet around here lately, so I propose to open discussions around pithy quotes. Here is one that seems to be the father of spin. Think about this, because it is from the 18th century by a great American statesman. I made it a rule to forbear all direct contradictions to the sentiments of others, and all positive assertion of my own. I even forbade myself the use of every word or expression in the language that imported a fixed opinion, such as "certainly", "undoubtedly", etc. I adopted instead of them "I conceive", "I apprehend", or "I imagine" a thing to be so or so; or "so it appears to me at present". When another asserted something that I thought an error, I denied myself the pleasure of contradicting him abruptly, and of showing him immediately some absurdity in his proposition. In answering I began by observing that in certain cases or circumstances his opinion would be right, but in the present case there appeared or seemed to me some difference, etc. I soon found the advantage of this change in my manner; the conversations I engaged in went on more pleasantly. The modest way in which I proposed my opinions procured them a readier reception and less contradiction. I had less mortification when I was found to be in the wrong, and I more easily prevailed with others to give up their mistakes and join with me when I happened to be in the right. -- Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

Really bad response time (lag) when using transporation menu with subways.
A Nonny Moose posted a topic in SC4 Bugs & Technical Issues
http://My configuration running wine-1.5.20 on Ubuntu 12.10 (GNU/Linux 3.5.0-21-generic x86_64) with the GNOME Classic desktop. This has been annoying the daylights out of me for quite a while. As soon as one enters the menu to do something with either the subway line or with any of the stations, even the Maxis one, the system seems to go cataleptic. It takes forever for the necessary menu to open, and for the redraw to happen. Does this also happen on Windoze? How about the MAC version? Any thoughts?- 19 Replies

I am really surprised that no one particularly wanted to discuss this situation. What we have on our hands worldwide is a volkerwandrung caused by religious and ethnic intolerance not seen since WW II. Here is an opening discussion point. The remainder of the Kurdi family have come to Canada in the current effort.

Han Solo bio. Announced, but no casting as yet. They'll have to find a younger man than Harrison Ford to play Han. Maybe we'll find out how he got involved with the Wookies.

New Latin College. There has always been an interest in Church Latin among Catholics, but this implies more than that. I had four years of scholarly Latin in high-school and it helped me greatly over the years, especially with my two years if university Italian. How many Simtroplitans have had similar experiences? How many of us have no exposure? How many could have taken Latin in high-school but didn't? Yes, I know this could have been a poll, but I'd rather hear from those who care.

Making weed pay. The real cost of this program has not yet been realized, however. Once the bloom is off the 'sage' things may just settle down as the novelty wears off. Meanwhile, I think the cash should be spent on renewing and expanding infrastructure. A side note: The newer term for Marijuana is '420'. All kinds of excuses have been given for this, but let's not forget that this is an important historical date. April 20th is Hitler's birthday. Read into that what you will.

WHO warned about Zika and Brazil's health system WHO has a problem in that it is an IOC partner. They will be damned if they do postpone or move the games, and doubly damned later if they don't and this makes Zika a world wide problem.

Bolt from the Government Caucus. This is an interesting break in the government's wall of solidarity. The more interesting thing is the set of numbers. Why should the conservatives be interested in protecting people who make up to $444,660 in the government? Wonder who is being let off the hook. For our non-Parliamentary members, this is the ultimate act of defiance for a member of the government bench to sit as an independent. The only worse thing would have been to join one of the opposition parties. This reduces the government majority to even fewer seats, and moves closer to a minority government. I don't think anyone in the U.S. Congress, for example, has ever changed parties or sat as an independent. I am not sure what would happen if some member did that. In the U.S. I think it would be political suicide. Here it is up to the member's constituents whether to re-elect him without a party endorsement. The election will not be held until 2015 unless the government falls. {Note to administrators: I couldn't find the old thread, and this one has a better title. Seem the search engine is absent. Can we continue this one, and let the old one just die?}

This calf had to be put down. If you touch or pet a wild animal you have probably killed it. In the case of this bison calf, its scent was changed and the herd then rejected it. The staff were right to euthanize it. Animals in the wild are not there for your amusement. Keep your distance.

Agreed. We need to see this complete file string to get a handle on this. If the images came off one of the social networking sites, they might not be recognizable free-standing. Some of the imaging sites have also taken to outputting a funny file string as well. I suppose this is part of the nannying that's been going on.

Back to the game! But first...
A Nonny Moose replied to Terring's topic in SimCity 4 General Discussion
Windows has changed considerably with respect to security since I ran it last (XP). I always ran from an Admin account, but that might not be the best course of action these days. My Ubuntu system has only one user account (mine) and it has Super User privileges (Admin), but each time you want to execute a privileged command you have to use the prefix sudo (Super User Do) and give your password. It may be awkward, but it works. One can also, if one has the real Super User password, enter the root by executing the su command which asks for the root password. The difference is that once you are in root you can destroy the whole O/S with one sloppy command in the heat of the moment. The one that does it is rm * The system asks "Are you sure?" and if you answer y it deletes the entire file system then halts. This wipes out everything that's not backed up off line including everything in all user accounts. ONE DOES NOT RUN IN ROOT, EVER, UNLESS THINGS HAVE COME TO SOME DESPERATION SITUATION. -
