Hey guys, I did a google search on the availability of the lot editor for mac, and I can't seem to find the right answer. Is there some type of Lot Editor for macs? If so, where could I download it? EDIT: I also have Wine, so would using that help at all?

Introduction It's been several years since I last played or did anything SimCity related. I recently started playing SimCity 4 again because my interest in city building games came back. Given that I have a lot of free time for the next month or two, I figured that I should start up another CJ again. Like everyone else who is into mods (and downloading GBs full of mods), I downloaded several mods only to realize that the Mac version is too different than the PC version. The amount of mods that would work for the MAC version is severely limited compared to the PC version. The one mod I have been most interested in was SimMars Beta 3. As a former team-member of SimMars, I wanted to experience the same enthusiasm I had for the mod back when I contributed to it. I realize that SimMars Beta 3 only works for Windows, but I ended up using WineSkin and WineBottler to extract all of the content. As a result, I was able to get SimMars working on the Mac. I understand that the MAC version is not fully patched like the Windows version, so there are more bugs and less capabilities (e.g. no night-lights on custom content). For the sake of playing the game and content, I am happy with what I have. ---------- Teaser

I know that I am resurrecting a very old thread, but my interest in SC4 sparked again. I am looking to play SimMars on the Mac. I understand that there's only an .exe file and .exe files can't run on Macs. I'm trying to use WineSkin on it to see if it would work out. Anyone has attempted playing SimMars on the Mac successfully before? If not, what would be the most ideal way of converting the program to run on Macs? -
Basic Lotting For those who want a good CJ, you might as well take up on custom content creation. For example, you're building a Middle Eastern city and want a filler for the empty spaces such that it fits the environment. Before we start making growable lots, lets start something smaller. ======================================= Disclaimer: This tutorial assumes that you know some of the basics of the lot editor including rotating objects and textures. ======================================= First, I used the grass green lot provided by maxis. Let's change up the base texture, I don't want a grass lot in my Middle Eastern cities especially if its somewhat far from a water source. I'm going to make this a concrete texture by going to the Base Texture tab and click Add Item. From there, pick a concrete texture. Remember this, use a base texture so that it fits with the surrounding environment such as other building's / lot's base textures. I want a dirt path, but you might be wondering how if I just selected a texture. The answer to that is going to the Overlay Texture tab. Then, you need to look through the menu for a dirt texture. Don't worry, this won't delete the base texture as this type overlaps the base texture. See? No harm done to the base texture. But I want to add more than just that, maybe a prop (object) or two? A prop is basically your objects where things like cars, streetlights, and other things that can be placed on the lot. In order to place a prop, you go to the Prop tab and click Add Item. Although the pop-up menu has no object viewer like the textures. You can go through each prop and select them to see what they look like. Besides that, there's a type-in box above the menu. From there, you can type an object you want such as a car. Remember, the results will be highlighted and you can press the Enter key to see more results. Pick a prop, any one. Don't worry, if you don't like it, you can always delete it by pressing the Delete key while selecting that prop. Alright, I picked my car (junker) and now able to place it on the lot. Like so, after I selected my desired prop such as this junker. I don't want to end there, I want this to be gritty as possible. If you downloaded a couple of prop packs, your prop menu will be much larger than the original Maxis' one. If you play around with the props, you are able to make something like this. Complex? Nope, I just added a few props such as Shanties (by onlyplace4), Maxis garbage and a few street lights and that's it! Don't worry, you can overlap props and even make them out of bounds if a prop allows it. I'm done my lot and ready to save this, (and edit for the future). Click Save As and name it whatever you want. I'm going to call it Slum_1. Congratulations! You completed your good looking lot and ready to plop wisely in your cities. Look how much gritter it looks with some lotting. Hope this helped you out! Notes: If you want to get more serious with your lotting, I recommend using the SC4 Plugin Manager and make buildings suited to your liking. You can use this tool to even create growable custom lots by using a building. I haven't covered this because I just want to get the basics down before I can move onto more advanced things.

It's a good game, but it becomes too boring once you reach a high population. At that point, it becomes too easy to get resources and there is no incentive in expanding.

I always get excited when those high-wealth skyscrapers pop up in my city (Though you could always use the BAT to replace the smaller building :P)! -
Lets take a look at our steam vents first. These give off a strange smell (Well you'll be in a "oxygen suit" so you won't be smelling anything unless you're in a airlock.) which drives out those pesky low class citzens and brightens up the local neighborhood. Hello's normal city collage. But a university will soon to come. At the famous Martian Cities United or the M.C.U. has the most deluxe suites and spas in the entire region!, but that just houses the first few floors. Then the upper levels are just skylobbies, offices, and meeting rooms. At a normal in-closed roof party. Many party go-ers go here to meet dates, friends, and have a some rounds while partying to the beat. In addition to parties, most roof parties usually have "light flares" since the disco squares travel though the glass. Just at normal rooftop view. And our beatuiful city skyline gleaming through our view. Leave a comment or two while stopping by.

As good this is, you really should consider creating your own lots. The cars and modern props somewhat ruin the 18th century feeling. :/ EDIT: If you really want to know to lot, I suggest checking out the Omnibus for tutorials. I believe there are a couple of articles on using the lot editor. -
I voted for you to build a dock first, that would be the most viable investment because it can potentially attract commercial ships regionally or even nationally.

As of now, no-one has put these wonderful buildings in a city. So I've decided to put them to the test along with other futurisic buildings I've found to make the game more playable. Now I'm using racidal mods and the CAM mod. So please don't ask how I got such a low pollution rate and high mayor ratings. (Don't mind the effects. The're meant for my CJ, Asian Region.) Martian Rowhouses. Please you might want to make them W2W. It would save space and pack more people in. The blank or black textures on the zoo or the base texture(s) is missing. Why is that? A dated virew of the first steps of the Simmars downtown. This was before all these buildings made by tim-cravey didn't exist then. But now we have more buildings. Now may I? Tim-cravey has a excellent downtown area of his own. although it's not that active now. It still has a great downtown without cheats. Much bigger than mine but more densely populated and that's the point of Simmars. To be space-saving for devlopment and compact like those prefabs. I must admit, that it's impressive in its own way. And probley better than mine!

If we colonize other planets we should take our animals with us too to preserve our biodiversity in case anything happens on Earth. We are destiny to spread life from Earth to other planets even if it means living in artificial spaces. All animals would live in a zoo where generations of people who had been born on Mars and never visited Earth would see how Earth looked like and all the ecosystems. Dude, look at the date of that post: 14 Nov 2008 Your post is almost 5 YEARS LATER to something that has been implemented a while ago. If you really want to revive Simmars, at least play Beta 3 for a while before contributing. -
How do I download stuff from SmEX? I want to get martian buildings too you know. You should really build your cities under the Terra Dome because on Mars there is no oxygen to breathe. All that stuff you see is from Beta 3.
