This building is the "Humanities Building" that is a part of the Maxis University. I created it as an expansion piece that would keep the same style as the other buildings. Like the "Science Building," it functions as an "Open Grass Area," so it does not draw any students from the university, but still adds a positive desirability effect to the area. It can be found in the parks menu. TIP: The front of the building faces away from the arrow when you plop it, so I suggest that you use the HOME and END keys to rotate it. Enjoy.
2. I'm building a new neighborhood that has a tram running in the road, but when I try to zone residential or commercial along that road, the zones always face away. I've tried the hotkeys (shift, alt.) hoping that it might help, but sadly it didn't. Is this normal or is something wrong? If it helps, I am using the tram-in-road with the grass in the middle. This issue is really inconvenient, so if anyone can help I would appreciate it a lot. Thanks. P.S. I posted in the General Discussion forum because I am not sure whether it's a zone problem or a NAM problem.

Excellent, thank you.
4. Hello, Two of my cities have several areas within which nearly all detail is missing (see below). The affected patches may change in size/shape each time I load the city, but it's generally in the same place. It affects Maxis and custom content. Initially I demolished/re-plopped the affected buildings and saved immediately - this had mixed success. I switched from hardware to software rendering, but the program would crash when loading the city. I played it on 2 different machines, and it occurred on each. Current game was downloaded from Amazon.com. The only version number I was able to find was 1.1 (from the readme). This has occurred on the original CD version too. If anyone has seen this before and may have a solution, I'd appreciate it, because this really detracts from the enjoyment of the game. Thanks. CPU: AMD FX-8350 4.00 GHz (Game runs on 1 core) GPU: Radeon R9 280 RAM: 16 GB OS: Windows 10 Home Missing Seawall: Minor League Stadium: Lots of detail/props missing from this park:
5. Patches of Missing Detail

Yes, that's it. With binary instead of decimal conversion the subfile is about 18.9 MB, but who's counting at that point...
6. Patches of Missing Detail

The two cities that have pox symptoms are New Adamsburg and Summers. A 3rd city, Haven, does not appear to have it. It is comparable in size but has not reached full buildout like the others. From the reader: .sc4 File Size 2977aa47 Size New Adamsburg 47.7 MB 19.8 MB Summers 33.5 MB 23.6 MB Haven 10.7 MB 4.8 MB So New Adamsburg and Summers appear to be lost because they are past the 6 MB subfile limit. However, Haven likely used the modified Maxis props at one point or another. Based on the Bap's post, once Haven passes 6 MB it should also develop Prop Pox, even if I remove PEG-OWW2_BDK_RESOURCE.dat or any other custom content file that may cause it, correct?
7. Patches of Missing Detail

Thank you for linking those threads. This is textbook Prop Pox. It's a shame, though, since I've been working on that region for about 6 years and all of the cities have been saved with PEG-OWW2_BDK_RESOURCE.dat in my plugins. Probably best to start fresh anyway, I've learned a lot since then.

Beautiful!
9. vda Troy NY HartCluett House

I live a few blocks from this, guess I'm obliged to download it lol
10. Intercity underwater tunnels

Although I have traditionally converted my road traffic to subway traffic, this is more "pure" alternative. I imagine this would be possible with heavy rail as well.
11. Does anyone know any positive effects of placing the bureau of bureaucracy in a city, or is just for show? Thanks in advance.
12. SimNation WTC and NPC Insurance

Awesome! As soon as I get back from college I'm downloading this!
Where did you get the tunnel?
Its the Boston Central Artery/Tunnel set. It basically turns your highway traffic into subway traffic. Very useful. Get it here. You have to set up an account on the LEX to download it. Have fun!
14. Senter Lake | 195 Interstate

excellent job!
15. The skyline is very pleasing to the eye. How much of this was grown vs. plopped? At any rate, well done.

17. Show Us Your Suburbs

Nice mix of densities and high attention to detail, Mastof.
18. Population 7 Billion

Yes, whether we choose to live in a higher-density system of cities, or if as Moose states, we spread out over the land, I think that the usage of automobiles as a primary means of transport will die out this century. Don't get me wrong, I like cars, and I expect people will still own cars, but not as many as today. To tie this into the game (why not after all?) I design my region with an extensive subway/el rail/light rail system, with very few highways, and it works great.
19. Show us your Downtown!

@hotchocolate: I like the all-around modernism in your pic, especially that large, concrete block of a building. Also, that does not look like an ingame default view angle. How did you get that? @TowerDude: Very green, lol. I like it. :-) @Ion_Cannon: I imagine the Sims in Clarkham are very auto-dependent! You should search for "Robert Moses." You might like his views on transportation.
20. Population 7 Billion

Maybe I'm one of the "crazies," but I have great faith in technology to solve our problems. Thomas Malthus correctly realized that the population increases exponentially, but food increases only arithmetically. However he predicted that there would be large die-offs around 1890, and others later believed that 1/5 of the population would die by the late 1970s, and the rest of the world to soon follow. However, we are still here. Why were these people wrong in their predictions? Because they only viewed humanity as consumers and not producers. They doubted humankind's ability to engineer and innovate its way out of problems. We can all agree to disagree about legislative action, world governace, etc., but like dghh70 said, there needs to be another scientific renaissance, and there will be. And many of us are going to have a hand in it. Hydroponics(growing food without soil), hydrogen fuel cells, reliable spaceflight: while not mainstream, they are all here, and clever and engineering people will take advantage of them, as has been done with other technologies in humanity's past. Happy New Year!

yea, can someone please tell us why this great-looking building is locked? thanks :)
24. MORAINE

Ah! What ever happened to the third party candidate? We Libertarians never catch a break! lol Looking forward to some transit-oriented development! p.s. Your pic pretty much describes the blizzard we just had up here in New York.
25. Courious to see if there was any talk about this on Simtropolis, I searched the site but I couldnt find anything. Basically, this proposed dome would keep citizens comfortable even in the face of huge hurricanes and sweltering heat. So what do you think about it? Is it not too far off in the future? In my opinion, if it was built, there would have to be some major regulation of fossil-fuel burning, probably leading to widespread proliferation of electric vehicles, either for mass transit or personal use. And that's just one of the many implications (for better or worse) one can see from this project. http://dsc.discovery.com/tv/mega-engineering/explore/houston-dome.html http://www.greenpacks.org/2009/06/09/the-houston-dome-will-save-the-city-from-peril-may-help-environment/ Houston Dome – The fourth-largest city in the United States and the largest city in Texas, Houston is vulnerable to killer hurricanes, extreme heat and other natural disasters. And the problem is only getting worse as the city is forced to spend a fortune in a losing battle against nature. Hence why a team of engineers decided that the most viable solution for the moment is to “move the city indoors”. The Houston Dome is supposed to protect the city from category-5 hurricanes The Houston Dome surface area will stretch over 21 million sq ft, which will make it the biggest structure with the largest roof in the world. The dome’s panels will be 15 ft across, with over 147,000 to cover the city of Houston. The only problem would be that using glass or plexiglass would make the whole structure extremely heavy. But the answer comes from German city of Bremen, from a company dubbed Vector Foil. Vector Foil manufactures an innovative strong, lightweight, transparent polymer known as ethylene tetra fluoro ethylene (ETFE). At just one percent of glass, ETFE is described as 99 percent nothing. And considering that it can withstand winds of 180 miles per hour, it could be the breakthrough for the Houston Dome. Designed to protect a city from a category-5 hurricane, the Houston Dome raises other problems related to actually building the structure. It will take years and billions of dollars, but would it be worth it? --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- What's your opinion?
