5 pointsThanks for all your comments :-) Fox, yea, long time no chat! Nice to see you around still too. So here is the final selection of the SC2013-style homes: I didnt create roof variations for the colorfuls for a few reasons, one: they dont seem to be that popular, two: when experimenting with it the variations didnt really look that good on them, three: it's also just too much work. All Maxis Nite models have been rendered now as well. Lots have been created and are being tested by SimCoug and T Wrecks at the moment. Each lot comes with the house prop as a prop family (separated only into color and neutral) to enhance variety. I also used a lot of other prop families on the lots for that reason. There are lots for the colorfuls and lots for the neutrals, so you can choose to use either or both at the same time. The lots come in different sizes in growth stages 1 - 4. They have no dependencies. Lots 1x2 Lots 2x2 & 2x4 Lots 2x3 & 1x3 Lots 2x2 & 3x2 Also, I submitted a tutorial about creating custom foundations in Max to the Omnibus on saturday. I assume it hasnt been reviewed yet, since it's not listed.

2 pointsYou might find post this a bit useless or completely unneeded, but I thought I'd throw it out there for anyone who would like to add to it. Am I the only poor soul who actually feels a bit "bad" for the existing citizens in SC4 when I tear down their houses or complete neighborhoods to replace them with whatever? Now, I don't "tear-up" or anything....but it still bothers me a little bit. I know it's all part of "the game" to do this, in fact, I know it has to be done occasionally - but ripping the homes out from under those poor people still stings. Okay, it's time to go back to the game and crush the hopes and dreams of the people who's houses I'm destroying. Tough luck citzs...

1 pointAlright.. hello everyone.. I've been trying to come up with a solution.. and I gotta say, that it really pisses me off! I mean.. to build an entire city, and being unable to do the downtown area.. well.. UGH! Im really frustrated right now.. Houston sounded so good... I try to practice at a blank map I have... But I just cant think of a good way to do the downtown area because of the stupid angles...
-
1 pointWow!! what a great map my friend!! Actually, if I was to build Hong Kong, I would love to have that map. On the other hand, should I start a Hong Kong, knowing that you are doing it? I mean, The point in here is to cover the greatest amount of cities, so I think, I will give it to you LOL!! At this point, I feel like the next step for me is recreating American cities... Dont take me wrong, I admire Hong Kong, in fact I was hoping people would vote Hong Kong... but now that I see you want it... pss forget it!! there is no way I can do it better than you.. you are the ASIAN CITIES MASTER!! I really like to see people participating in here, and of course, opinions count! I have to admit, I did not expect so much people to comment and share in here... its amazing!! Anyways, right now, Im working to see how the Houston map fits LOL (Im not giving up on that one) and as I stated above, I got Philly and NYC started, and as we are speaking, the Chicago map is being downloaded!! Btw buddy.. is it possible that I can PM you to guve you my email address so you can send me the Hilton Hotel?

1 pointI like so much this kind of thread, I enjoyed a lot reading all the comments and I was wondering, why not share with all these guys my point of view I'm playing Simcity 4 since 2005, and I always I tried to make recreations, from USA I tried with cities like Chicago, New York, L.A and one of the best for me, Detroit !! from Europe cities like Paris, Madrid, Berlin and Barcelona were on my mind...and we could not forget the biggest cities from Asia, I did recreations of Hong Kong, Tokyo and Bangkok... I just shared with you some of them, like Berlin, Hong Kong and New York... and the other recreations always ended more soon that I was expected and for that reason these cities were never shown here... Anyway I think recreations are on of the best ways to play simcity 4, and for that reason I always got a recreation on my mind... as some of you know I was recreating New York city until I lost all my plugins / regions due a problem with my computer, anyway I will do recreations until I leave this game and for that reason I like so much this thread, and I hope we can see new recreations in this great world of Simcity 4. For my part, I think you have to include Detroit in your list my friend but my vote goes to Hong Kong, why ? because for me Hong Kong is the perfect city to be recreate in this game, it has a fantastic map, a lot of amazing buildings, a great seapor and airport, mountains, rivers and sea...it's perfect for simcity 4 and for that reason Hong Kong will be my next ( I hope the last one ) project, I've worked on the map a lot of time, making little adjustments and now I think I got the perfect map, so now is time to prepare the plugins and I hope soon I can share with you my recreation guys. Hong Kong map, created by Kelis (kelistmac) Greetings and keep up this great thread and thanks cmdp123789 for start it

1 pointI thought of that too... I mean, it is possible to do that with the majority of the city, my real concern is about the downtown area, and south of the downtown area =) any tips on that??
-
1 point@cmdp123789, @SimRico: As it has been said before on this thread, the vast majority of times the recreation cannot be full. Finding a compromise between RL and SC4 is something inherent to city recreations. Sometimes, you have to settle recreating a small part of a city. I just consulted Houston's layout on Google Earth, you guys are right. But I think that, if you make the recreation in a blank map, with the orthogonal roads fitting SC4 grid, I think you can have a pretty decent thing. Just my 2 cents, of course.
-
1 pointI was really hoping I could do Houston. I even started downloading some BATs, downloaded the map, and even created the region!! But it wasnt until I checked Google Earth that I found that the downtown is impossible to recreate because of the grid's angle. See, it is not 45 degrees, and even though I found a way to do it.. which makes the grid look good in the transit view, but a pain in the back to build and plop the buildings. I guess, I could give it a try too... so far, I have NYC started... I have Philadelphia started (but I dont see too many people interested in Philly) and I guees I could start a Houston too. I wanna give it a go to Chicago.. I know this sounds probably boring to some people since they are all American cities.. but I guess most of the people in here are interested in them because of the amount of BATs available. Remember, the whole point of this is to make a tutorial out of it, and make people participate and show how thye are followin this. Again, personally, I will give it a try, but we need to decide on the public vote in terms of tutorial. I will gladly do, whatever city wins the poll... Of course, pictures will be shown about the other ones, but since there is a batting school, I thought that maybe, I could contribute by doing something that Im really good at =)

1 pointCousin NEBB! i was thinking Memphis or Thebes! Even a city called Hoteph! My MUMMY sez when are you coming out to Stepford-Nebbs Beach and visit again?

-
1 pointI've been playing for as long as the game has been out. I still have twinges of conscience when I demolish something unless it is an abandoned building. One gets involved in the "lives" of the Sims, will ye, nil ye.
-
1 pointYour not alone. And it goes the same for when you tear down their place of employment, knowing they'll be unemployed till they find a new place for work. Just remember, this situation happens everyday in the real world. I, myself have been displaced from a beautiful home (rented of course) for a new school to be built. I've also have had family's neighbors displaced because of the state dump growing so large, that it put them within the bounds of the dump. There really is not much you can do about it. But take solace in knowing that those Sims will prevail in time.
-
1 pointYou're not. If anything, I treat this as a more realistic approach to the game. Urban planning, especially when building new infrastructure requires thought to the existing environment and ways to accomplish the project with minimal impact. For me, this includes looking at alternate routes, tunnelling or reserving tracts of land for future development. It's much more realistic to knock down a few unfortunate homes on the outskirts than to tear a massive corridor throughout a CBD. Funny you should being this up, as there is a controversy in my city about this very subject: http://m.heraldsun.com.au/news/victoria/premier-denis-napthine-promises-fair-compensation-for-homeowners-affected-by-east-west-link/story-fni0fit3-1226680063385

1 pointOh thank god, I'm fluent in bark. My meow's a bit rusty, and the cats here in Japan speak a very odd dialect of it that's difficult to catch at times. Very pretty place, as always! I like the higher density, it's very cool amidst all the green!
-
1 pointIt seems that these SC2013-style houses fit well with those original Maxis SC4 houses. Excellent work!
-
1 pointyour protege is handling that, with a special emphasis on power plants and water sources. edit: i vote chicago and hong kong. both would be fairly easy I think, Chicago moreso. Both would look fantastic.

1 pointI'm sort of amazed how people get bored so easily with this little jewel of a game... there are 999.999.999 possible seeds - surely you will find one that is challenging enough ;-) That's what I do at least - I look for terrain that is almost impossible to work with, and take it from there... Other times I just go for some lovely scenery... I think I played for two or three weeks straight now, and I did not get bored for a minute (not even after I licked the starting pains and can now grow any type of village almost at will)... You can see one of my 500+ towns here... :-)
-
1 pointAlso, you can post .png pictures in the forum (using an image host like you have), it's just generally discouraged due to bandwidth/loading times/etc. In small amounts it's fine, though.
-
1 pointThat is correct. This type of intersection can be made when using a combination of the RHW-3 transitions and the RHW-3 cosmetic pieces. In fact, I implemented these pieces into the latest NAM, although in a slightly different form: What you've shown is a concept drawing from Riiga, which never came into realisation in this form. Best, Maarten
-
1 pointYeah it's under the 1 tile cosmetic pieces and there are some variants of interchange you linked, once again, all under the 1 tile cosmetic pieces.
-
1 pointThere are pieces in the nam to do this. I forget which tab ring they're in. I think 1 tile cosmetic pieces. Its a semi prefab and then you use the provided extension pieces to your liking.

1 pointPBGV103- Thank you!!! Schriefer- Thank you!!! Vlasky- I understand I will get back to it soon. T Wrecks- Lol!!!! cmdp123789- SimCoug- Thank you, I'm not working on the old buildings, it will be cool to do that. Tower 67 Apartments Here's about three hours of work on the building not including the work on the box model in the previous render.

1 pointSimtropolis isn't available on Wayback because Wayback's bots which archive pages are not allowed to browse the site, for performance reasons. As for old screenshots... well, I certainly have a bunch. Here's one from 2004, one from 2006, and one from 2008:

1 pointcmdp123789- Thank you!!! Schriefer- Thank you!!! Possible Apartment Plans Here's a number of apartments, That would be lovely to bat for Sim City 4, I have been thinkin it over and over, I have been looking at these buildings for months and for some a few years now. The problem for me will be speed and the render speed, that's something that will beat me down. One Sherman Square Apartments One Sherman Square Apartments was completed in 1972 at 42 stories replacing two old and beautiful buildings, one of them is known as Sherman Square Hotel, the one on the left picture below the One Sherman Square Apartments render. 1 pointThank you! Although I'm still learning how to model and use 3ds max I would love to make more NYC buildings in the future. Thank you so much for your nice comments! Thanks neighbor! I've added your ideas to my wish list, these Mid-century meetinghouses would be a wonderful addition to the suburban environment. Utah, Arizona and California have some unique examples. Actually, I'm in the making of the Hermosillo Sonora, Los Angeles California and Gilbert Arizona Temples. As I said before, I'm still learning how to use 3ds max, and if I want to have a good result I have to practice more and I'm on it .

1 pointWorking on the BAT again at this time, creating a lighthouse (or a propfamily of lighthouses for the sanddune beaches of FrankU. More can be seen on his and our thread on SC4D. Looking for the right texture................lol............so many choices................
-
1 pointYes, you're right, roof variations! I guess I didnt go into that because I kinda messed up the geometry of the roof, so it's not a simple switching of textures. I did create a few color variations now though, here's what the neutral alternative roof set looks like: Btw, thanks for those roof color examples, very helpful! Gutterclub, more window details would be nice, but I won't go into that. Not that important in my eyes and I want to proceed to the next stage.
-
1 pointKant01 had a neat little BAT thread over at SC4D, but I'm afraid that these will never see the light of day
-
1 pointFor residential and commercial zones, 1-3 grow on low density. These are the houses and small shops/offices. 1-6 grow on medium density. 4-6 are the small apartment buildings and larger shops/offices. 1-8 grow on high density. 7 & 8 are the towers. For industrial zones, 1-3 grow on medium density, and are the small factories. 1-5 grow on high density. 4 & 5 are the large factories. The CAM (Collosus Addon Mod) increases the number of growth stages to 15. These new ones still grow only on the high-density zones, and are just larger towers.
