Entry no.25 - The Suburbs of Dresden

TakemeThere

4,198 Views

As seen from the last entry, my CJ can be quite heavy on the dialog at times. Not that I think that's a bad thing, but it's good to take a break sometimes. Also while the focus of the CJ is on infrastructure and transportation, that is not all that encompasses Pretoria :)

Dresden has probably the largest suburban population of any of my cities. Here's some views of those suburbs up close, specifically the neighborhood of Orchard Heights;

One of my favorite parts of the suburbs is where the Hardack hydro corridor cuts through it;

And lastly moving on to my favorite suburban area of the city.
The community of Woodside is located in southwestern Dresden and the part I like most is the very center of it where 3 rail corridors and  highway 702 squeeze through;

As you can tell there's been a noticeable lack of weed trimming along the joint South Shore-Farham rail corridor. Only small spots are trimmed by the highway light towers to maintain access to them.

Here we catch Hallmarks high-speed regional train speeding southbound through the area at 265kph towards Cape Cardinal on Fastraxx's South Shore line.

A teaser for some of the next entries which will deal with Industry and Transportation;

I haven't decided yet, though it'll probably come down to which one I complete first :)

Wow! Very good. I am very curious as to how you managed to create those powerlines, because they can't be dragged over any lot. Lastly where did you get those dark green bushes, in the bottom half of this entry, which border the railway lines? They make for great MMP material.

Those suburbs (first pictures) are delightful -- and the infrastructure (transport and power) is quite impressive ! (BTW, ditto LnX for the bushes -- I don't recognize them...something jeronij  ? Or Blunder's cascadia MMPs ?)

Wow!! Really nice!.  Great attention to detail and realism.  I'm impressed.  I like the concept of the power lines running through the city.

Just two questions:

1) What lots did you use for the white sound barrier walls?

2) What lots did you use for the the brick retention walls (pictures 20-22)

VERY nice, indeed !!

Love the street layout in the "burbs" !

I'm still trying to make mine look just half that random.

Stunning work here. I really enjoy how you are able to weave in highways and rail through the burbs. Nice job!

Appreciate the regards :)
There's a little trick to enabling  the pylons to do that, check out  http://community.simtropolis.com/forums/topic/68018-show-us-your-energy-infrastructure-power-plants-fuel-extraction-fuel-processing/. Those brushes are actually made by heblem, pretty sure this is the link for them http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/24398-hbs-flora-prop-pack-vol01/

Thanks! glad you liked that concept.

1) Those wall's can be found here; http://community.simtropolis.com/files/file/22260-lubus-sound-barrier-wall-set/ There's plenty of different sound wall's out there but as you can tell from my pics I like to use these a lot because I find the scale with them looks right and in fact they are actually 5m tall. Which is proportional in height to IRL wall most of the other ones available out there are much taller. Keep in mind that pack only comes with 5 lots though. I relotted those walls and now I have no less than 22 different texture combinations;

2) Those brick wall's were park of a small set made by Jeronij  IIRC. I've had them for a very long time now 7-8 years. I think I found them over at simdevotion but I'm not entirely sure, here's a link to another set of his from there https://www.sc4devotion.com/csxlex/lex_filedesc.php?lotGET=131 I couldn't find the ones you were looking for in a quick search but if you look for files made by jeronji you should probably be able find them. Again though the original set was only a few lots, I made 13 lots with different texture combinations for my own use. :D

SC4's grid system just got rekt. This is a giant slab in the face for the game lol

@Toothless: A "slab" in the face - was that intentional? :P

@takemethere: Another wonderful entry! I just love the combination of PEG's underpass with those MMP footpaths (among many, many other things); very creative use! And do I spot your own extension of those IRM fillers in the next-to-last picture? I sure don't remember making these one-sided, open-area parking spaces.

Your Transportation systems are second to none! That being said, I've on an Industry kick lately and would love to see some industry next update!

Great work!! I like how natural the sloping of the streets looks. You've give us all a lot of good ideas with this. The electrical lines are a nice touch too. Good use of trees and foliage.

Nice use of the FAR road in the suburban area; lot´s do fit in more in contrast as with diagonal one´s ! Underpas road or footpaht always struggle with underground piece; first create underpass or other way around; it isn´t a straight section ? Containing walls can  open a lot of extra space. RHW and RRW wel excecuted, well done !

Good eye there - yup that's exactly what it is. I've also made use of them in a way you didn't originally intend as well... more on that later ;)

TY  I'm very tempted to go with that next, we'll see. One things for sure, it won't be another month or more until the next entry.

@raynev1 @slickbg56  @kschmidt  @GoKingsGo : Thanks for your comments. I'm blown away by all the positive responses to this entry so far :]

I think I've spent more time staring at those hydro corridors than everything else that SC4 is supposed to be about. You've managed to elevate those unsightly power pylons into a work of art!

Those suburbs and use of FAR is fantastic! Really impressive residential area.

Can I ask where the small brick ped/cycle underpass, which passes under the railway, is from?

Mesmerizing aren't they? I'm glad I'm not alone when it comes to appreciating the "art" of hydro pylons lol

Thanks mate and I'll try to keep that in mind going forward. I was actually starting to suffer from a lack of sleep... Thankfully most of the content for the next few updates is pretty much done.

TY! And sure, no prob. Those would be PEG's underpass which is part of this set;

I use them extensively as they help in situations where pedestrian bridges aren't feasible or don't look right. I later modded them so that they actually function as pedestrian underpasses allow sims to cross. This image below is from a city save file from 2013 showing it in use;
02N5o0u.jpg

It was a lightly used route so I eliminated the street connection and thus its functionality when I started the CJ and made the area(and the whole city in general for that matter) more visually appealing.

Awesome new entry! You know it's something great when you can spend hours oogling at all the pictures. :P

And I like how there's a Reagan-Bush billboard in the last picture. :D Reagan was great president IMO.
