Hello everyone~ :)

My name is Al. I spent my childhood playing the GameHouse Games Collection on my mom's Windows 98 SE PC (albeit being born in the Windows XP era, I experienced Windows XP later in my life). Truth to be told, I didn't spend my childhood with computer games that much, but it always brings me to play retro or nostalgic games in recent times.

I am always fascinated with city-building games, and I felt that I touched SimCity 3000 in my childhood thanks to my father who is a teacher in economics. I recently bought both SimCity 3000 Unlimited and SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition from GOG thanks to their summer sale, and I am instantly hooked! Lately I spend my time playing SimCity while doing my research (because it gets boring, lol). A weird thing, though, that I prefer playing SimCity 4 with SimCity 3000, hahaha.

I hope my introduction is not too long, and thank you for the existence of this community! I definitely play SimCity 4 with the recommended mods (including NAM) and the blue UI (it makes the UI more modern). If there is any recommended beginner's guide, please do let me know however, as I sometimes get stressed because of my economic mismanagement. :D

Greetings to every bulider here!

I'm Otto from Hungary. Playing city bulider games from 1997 when I buy my first PC. SimCity , SimCity 2000, SimCity 3000 and then SimCity 4. From years to years I come back to play and continue the Mayor work. The last region I start to build is from 2013, and now in 2025 I want to continue the magic what this game give to the players. Because I build a new desktop PC this year (and build it without DVD-reader) I need to buy SimCity 4 through Steam. And that point there is a big help for me from this Great Community to help running the game smooth on modern hardware and software. It"s a great pleasure to be a member of a 23 years community and a great feeling to teach my 10 years old son to build his first city on the summer school holliday.

Thanks everybody.

Lets' build something today too!

O.

Great to finally join,

Hi, My name is Daniel and I Play SimCity!  I have been playing for over 20 years now and its STILL feels like I'm just getting started.  I've also watched the site from the sideline and never joined.  Well, with both powers combined, maybe I can finally conquer this Maxis creation lol. The game has so many various aspects that I return over and over again year after year.  I'm glad to be a part of the community now, and I intend to stick around just as I have with SimCity.

Thank you for hosting such a MARVELOUS WEBPAGE

When you say SimCity are you referring to the one which came out in 2013? I ask because we have a forum for it, but it's mostly dead in there.

Really I mean every SimCity lol.  I began playing SimCity on Playstation 1 SimCity 2000 back in 2000-2001 lol.  So I've been a fan since.  I even went back and re-bought the disc version of the game and play it periodically lol (good times lol).

I always make yearly returns here because of how friendly the site is. I've been here just over ten years now and my Simcity4 has been a constantly evolving project over that time. It was only this year that I actually fixed a lot of longstanding performance issues which has given me a new motivation to finish an old region.

Hello, I recently got back into SimCity 4 after watching a stream and finding out how mods have evolved the game.

I'm currently playing around with NAM, and it has been a blast so far.

Looking forward to finding inspiration and guidance here on Simtropolis!

HELLO  EVERYONE.........My name is Pete. I'm from Los Angeles, California USA. I now live in the state of Oregon, USA.... i been on simtropolis here for about a year and a half now so its about time to introduce myself.

In relative terms, i am still a newbie to this website, HOWEVER.......i am definitely not a newbie to the SimCity games.

I've been playing SimCity for 35 years now.:O In 1990, i started playing the very first version that came on a 3.5 inch floppy disk with that blue label. I believe i still have that disk floatin around here somewhere's *:???:.....I first started playing this game on an IBM 286 computer, before even the first Intel Pentium chips, with a 800x600 screen on a Windows 3.1 operating system. "286" because the CPU speed was only 286MHz. I actually was able to get over 500,000 population on that, which was like about the maximum on there...i kinda cheated it though by building all rails and no roads-and it worked!:O The original SimCity game was printable, you could print out the whole city on your computer printer. (it would print out on several many pages, then you just line em up). I even had a map editor for that.

.....but wow, have things really come a long long way. I have a screen now thats 9 times bigger....I still remember a long time before there was any internet at all. :O

i moved on to playing SimCity 2000 on a Compaq Persario computer, which included the first terrain leveling features.

SimCity 3000 followed quickly after; that had the first cheat codes i used so that i could build any building i want and have it functional without them disappearing or going abandoned.

....and then on to SimCity 4 right when it came out in the early 2000's. I still have the original dual CD disk version of SimCity 4.

I also have the original disk version for Rush Hour....although i lost the CD key for it early on so i had to hack into the game disk in order to use it lol. *

my SimCity 4  disk version crashes now and won't work so last year i had to buy the digital version off of Steam.

SimCity 5 WAS A TOTAL FLOP!!! :noway: :noway: i know better not to waste my time so i never even bothered with it once. :dead: LOL.

edit: So like i got a region going right now, its called "Subvert County," its about to hit 30 million people soon. Its named after a city it contains, "Subvert City;" Subvert City is the main city of the region at 12.6 million people. This city is named after a song "Subvert City" by the Subhumans, a 1980's British punkrock band. The song is about a great utopian city. this is the most populated city and region ever for me

So like  i'm not so good with this graphical programing and making these visual mods. i am more better with HTML, running webservers and hosting websites, remote computer access, computer networks, network surveillance, and hacking stuff. So i am blessed to have this diverse community of modders and Sim'ers making the SimCity game content so much richer because EA Games did such a short handedly crappy job on SimCity 4 and left so many many things out, not even the Rush hour expansion did it any justice.

EA Games has a bad rep of ruining everything they touch (e.g. Maxis Games, Westwood Studios,... to name a couple). So in final, if it weren't for all of you Sim'ers and modders out there, SimCity 4 would also be a total flop. We are all blessed to have you, and keep up the good work ...make sure your documentation and instruction is clear and concise!

thank you, you all have a good day now........*:thumb:

Hiya, Pete! I'm Cori. Your narrative brought up fond memories for me. *:)

I can relate to your progress thru each version of the SimCity games. I had a similar experience, but it was compressed in time. When I was born, the 486s were getting their foothold really well, but my dad set me up with an XT Clone with Bouncing Babies and other simple games when I was about 4 years old. Eventually I advanced to the original SimCity where I accidentally discovered a cheat. Did you ever notice you could bulldoze part of Residential and they were not destroyed? They took up like 9 cells and iirc, you could bulldoze the right edge and bottom nibbling it down to only 4 cells and then that gave lots more room to build. I believe my highest pop while using this method was 700k+. *:)

As I got older, I advanced in computers every couple of years going to the 286, 386, 486, and by my teenage years I was into low end Pentiums. Ofc, all this stuff was used and they were a dime a dozen (so to speak) in the local thrift shops until that got more centralized.

Anyhow, this shouldn't be about me other than a wee bit of background we sort of share in common. *

Welcome to posting on Simtropolis. Dive right in! The water's fine.

YES! I know about that!! but i thought the overlapping buildings was a bit too odd for me so i never tried to build in this way....i would only use this similar method (demolish the left side of the square instead) if i just wanted specifically to build houses and not have them disappear into bigger buildings.

Indeed. It looked goofy as all hell. :whatevs:  Once I'd played aesthetically as much as I wanted, this became its own challenge simply chasing a bigger and bigger number. *:ninja:

And, I presume, you'd plunk a little 1 x 1 park in that square hole. *:bunny:

naw i think it would not let me do that, the "R" would have to be demolished, which in turn demolishes the rest of whatever is left of that square

Hello,

I am K-Town, I live in Western Australia, when I was about 11 my dad bought me a copy of SimCity 3000 unlimited when we where on holiday and let me play it on his work laptop,  A few years later  one of my friends game me a copy of base SimCity 4 when it was relatively new, both where some of  the best gifts I ever got.

I spent about one afternoon upgrading my wifes laptop with a bigger SSD and added an account with with my old Steam files, saw SimCity 4 on my list, tried to get the launcher had tried years ago... and spent about 5 hrs trying to make Ultimate Guide work, not having VisC was the main issue, then some slowness on my part found  Ulisse Wolfvideo helped get things working but the IGPU didnt need the voodo stuff... restarted installing twice and got it going.

With SimCity 4 patched up properly now I am keen to try it out again, its been super busy and I would like to do something I used to find fun and interest and a have relaxing time... The mods are a little bit of a learning curve but I think I have got the basics now.

Looks like things have changed a bit since I last played, or maybe its just me... does anyone elses back hurt... when did that happen...

Hi! I'm toad, and I've been a long time comber of the BATs here, mostly since I bought a disc copy of SC4D deluxe at a thrift shop. It took a little bit of fiddling to get it to work through wine, but it finally does! I'm looking to get better at city building and to actually have people to talk to about this.
