"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

Hello Everyone,

I am a new member and I use SimCity 4. Have loved the game for decades and now finally modding. Shout out any building you modeled/appreciate, I'd love to represent you in my city! Hope every one is staying healthy in these most uncertain times. To the Sim-iverse, and beyond!

Hi David T, and welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

It's great you've discovered the modding side of things, and you'll find it opens a whole new world of possibilities. For me that part is really a game within the game, which isn't even a game since I consider it more of a hobby. To see how custom changes and new content can expand the potential of SC4 really is amazing to see.

There are so many talented people here, and all the best in your own explorations.

As an aside, congrats on making the 10,000th post in the New Members Info forum! *

Hi y'all!

I am a recently unemployed guy (yup!), who was a massive fan of SimCity 4 D back in the day. Putting some of my new found free time to work creating the detailed, complex cities that the younger me could only have dreamed of -- and making big use of the Simtropolis community's amazing use contributions/mods/buildings. Huge shout-out to MattB325 and the BAT project.

Finished a couple of major fictional cities, including Fairview (modeled my version loosely after Cincinnati) and a West-coast-style city called Troy.

But like many SimCity players, I got distracted and could not rest till I made a super detailed version of San Francisco. Have pretty polished FiDi/Embarcadero, Presidio, Sunset, Mission/Hunter's Point/Bayview, Oakland and Berkeley sections, and am working on finishing out the Bay Area. Trying to approach SF with the determination, patience, and plugin use that I lacked as a younger player, and hopefully that work will pay off!

Looking forward to sharing my version of SF in a journal, and seeing what wildly cool stuff the other (much more talented) Simtropolis community members come up with during all this collective free time. In the meantime, sharing some photos of my San Francisco as is. Night y'all!

Hi @NoviceRedux and welcome to Simtropolis and back to SC4 also! *:8)

That's an excellent start you've made of your San Francisco city there. If you do decide to post a City Journal that sounds a great idea. This can be done in the dedicated section and/or also the SC4 City Journals forum. Most tend to post exclusively in the main CJ section, but it's totally up to you.

Also in addition or to begin with, you may feel like posting a few pics also in the SC4 Showcase forum inside one of the many "Show Us" topics there. This can be a useful means of sharing your latest city scenes with one or more pics (the JPG format is preferable to balance file size with quality).

Hope you enjoy the site too!

By the way, I'll just tag @mattb325 so he'll notified and see your word of mention above.

Hi @Cyclone Boom and @CorinaMarie,

Thanks so much for welcoming me! Hope you are staying safe & all is well.

If you are interested, please check out the SimFrancisco Chronicle, my SC4D city journal / fan fiction-type thingy. Not a ton of new stuff, apart from a letter from the SimZiac! But more screenshots to come as I finish the "first draft" of the city.

Next stop, San Francisco. Woot woot!

Hi, My Name is Morebits,
I'm an avid SimCity (SimCity 1 on 5 1/4 " Floppy Disk) player from the age of 8, when I had a BBC Master Computer( see below )

image.png.799d81e1f47e99e528b95d6c99f669a2.png

After that, I had an Atari STE and didn't play SimCity till I got my first PC, and played SC2K, which I loved.
A few years later I got SimCity 3000, which I also really liked, then finally SimCity 4, and I'm going back and forth
between SimCity 4 and Cities Skylines. Apart from that, I do a bit of programming, play Chess and do normal stuff,
oh and I work in the voluntary sector as a Horticultural Assistant.

That's about it.

Morebits.
PS I did leave a post in the NAM Forum :

PPS I also tried the online SimCity, but didn't like it.

Hi Morebits, welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

To experience the original style of computers must've been very fascinating to learn how the progression of technology has been.

What amazes me often is how data storage has grown so much to the ever-increasing capacities of today, and how these days it's often taken for granted how storage drives can hold terabytes, not just mere megabytes as the floppy disks did. They sure didn't have smartphones and tablets in those times. This must've given you a unique perspective into how gaming has changed too over the years, and to experience the original SimCity which must've been such a focal point for the city-building genre.

Hope you enjoy learning and exploring the site, and glad you could join us too.

Thanks for the help getting my old account back online

You're welcome. *

As a general rule, we don't allow peeps to have more than one account. (There are exceptions for staff who may need a second one to be able to view the site from the member perspective like when writing guides to site functions and features.) Now, I see no need to actually remove your 2.0 account because the flow of the above posts makes sense with it still in place. How about I just disable it from being logged into?

Hey, I'm JojiTX!

I actually used to be an avid SC4 player and lurker of this awesome website about a decade ago. I was only 12-13. Since then, a lot of time has passed. My interests had changed. I got more into cars, photography, just life. But I would still occasionally visit this website from time to time.

Now I'm a junior studying cybersecurity & information systems and some time during quarantine I decided to check this place out again and my god have things changed.

Annnd I thought, what the heck- why not? The current situation allows for me to purchase this game again and devote some time to it. I haven't played since 2012. I had gotten into downloading some of the content from this site and learning how to build cities and it was going somewhere... but I stopped I don't know why. Maybe it was my attention span.

But I guess I'm back now so yay. *:)

I've done a lot more research on how to build cities and how to make a realistic/aesthetically pleasing city. I thought the mods back then were great... but  decades worth of new buildings and stuff? Prop pox fixed? Colossus Addon Mod? Wow!

I plan on becoming active here once I get my new gaming laptop set up. I have an idea and some plans for a Texas-style city based on Austin with a bit of San Antonio, Houston, and countryside. There will be plenty of freeways, modern suburbia and retail (thanks to a lot of the content creators here). I can't wait. The plans and W.I.P. Should be ready to show off in a couple of weeks. *:thumb:

Hi Everyone!  I've been busy playing The Sims 2, but since I seem to have a lot of time on my hands, I thought I would try something different - SimCity 4 - Rush Hour.  The highway building is tripping me up, though, so I was searching for a solution and found this site.  Looks like this is going to be a great resource for my fantasy city building endeavours.  Thanks!

Here's a picture of some kitty cats.
