Hi @JojiTX and @Vox DeVaux

Welcome to Simtropolis both of you! *:8)

It's great to see so many new and returning mayors even all these years later. The big thing for me is how SC4 is a creative learning environment where we're each able to use our imaginations in developing our cities. There is no rulebook except what we define by ourselves, and this allows freedom of design on an artistic canvas.

We hope you enjoy the site and community too!

Greetings everyone! I've been playing SimCity 4 what seems like forever now, kept a long break but finally getting back to it and loving all the content this forum and website has to offer. Many thanks! Trying to join the Discord currently, but it won't apparently let me do that before I have at least one post here! *;)

Hi @Avy and welcome to Simtropolis! *:8)

There is something about SC4 in particular which has sustained my interest for years now. I remember back when I did take breaks for studies getting in the way, but eventually I always found myself coming back to it. You've certainly arrived at a fantastic community, and we hope you enjoy your time here too.

Hi everyone! I love city-building, sandbox and strategy games since I can remember. *:)

SimCity 4 was probably the 1st proper city builder I played (well, I have nice childhood memories from a game called Lego Loco but was more of a sandbox game). I have been playing SimCity 4 over a decade, from intense activity periods to long breaks but like it has been said before, always coming back.

A few years ago, I bought the Deluxe edition in Steam, and several months ago, with all this unexpected pandemic stuff, I started playing again. This was the first time with mods. I don't know how I have played this game without mods all this time! So I have to sincerely show my gratitude to the community for such amount of top-notch content. *:thumb:

In addition to Simcity4, right now Banished and Cities Skylines are the other city building games I am most interested in, but classic sagas like Caesar will always have a place in my heart.

Hi @Mr_Robotico and welcome to Simtropolis. *:8)

That's the brilliant thing about city builders and SC4 in particular with how there's a toolbox provided, allowing immense creativity at a diverse level. With no set end goal it means our creativity drives the way development takes shape, in a multitude of different forms. Add custom content and the potential is expanded even further too. We each have personal preferences on the styles, and whether more rural or urban orientated, there's a platform to create something special to be proud of.

Enjoy the site too!

Hiya, @Mr_Robotico. Welcome to Simtropolis. *:)

Much like your style, I played the game without mods for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it. After joining ST myself, I slowly (quite slowly) have transitioned from playing vanilla to using an assortment of mods to fix bugs and enhance the aesthetics aspects.

Feel free to jump right into discussions and/or post pics of your creations in the Showcase forums.

Hi @SameOldx2 and welcome to Simtropolis. *:8)

That's great you've decided to get into SC4 and the Steam version should work well since it's fully patched. As for 4k and other high definition monitors, it will depend since the game has a fixed maximum resolution which it supports. See this topic for some info about that: Does SimCity 4 Support HDR Monitors?

Of course, if you'd like help with anything, feel free to post in a new or existing topics (such as the above).

Enjoy the site!

Dell T3500 workstation, gtx 1070 and Windows10 latest version. Already downloaded a launcher and set custom resolution for 4k. However it will only run in software mode with custom resolution set. Will run on hardware acceleration only on default resolution settings for me. Would like to use mods eventually, will software mode affect mods?

That depends on whether or not the items are HD or not. For example, quite a few terrain mods are and otherwise crash the game unless Hardware mode is enabled. The same also applies with custom BATs too which are rendered, and so that's a limitation running on the Software mode. It might be possible to use OpenGL rendering and some people have had success with that, although it was never properly implemented and so can be quite glitchy with how it displays.

You may find these two topics of interest:

I just feel pretty happy when seeing old players come back, Frankly, I don't know why, and also with regret that I joined simtropolis too late, Apparently, missed many chances to meet those great people, perhaps I'm being overly sensitive, well, Anyways, there is also good news, now we have great administrators here! *;) Nice to meet you @lucask0 !:}

Sincerely,

Hi y'all! Loooong time lurker, finally joining up. I grew up on city-builders, starting with Transport Tycoon on DOS. I love how open they are to tell the story of a space.

I play Skylines these days, originally stumbling through it, but since watching folks on YouTube like Donoteat01, Citywokcitywall, Fluxtrance and others, I've started building assets and recording the story of my cities.

Looking forward to finally contributing to the community!

Hi @AccoSpoot and welcome to Simtropolis! *:)

Glad you could join us too, and this sure is a great place for anything city building. The thing which I enjoy (I'm personally into SC4) is how they allow a freedom in creativity which is in a world that we can each design and have control over. Letting each of our imaginations run and create to fit various styles and themes. It's all down to personal taste, whether into the rural or urban way of planning a region. Then the custom content too, and I've heard for CSL there's plenty of choice also.

Hope you enjoy everything the community has to offer.

Hi All! I've been a long time SC4 fan and have started playing it again for the nth time in the past 15 years. I used to be a member of simtropolis wayyyyy back then but I can't find my old username/password and the email attached to it. Anyway, I'll probably be spending the next few days going through all the mods, texture packs, etc before I actually start playing fully. Anyway just wanted to say hi and looking forward to interacting with everyone.

Peace!

Hi @Iking and welcome to Simtropolis on your return. *:8)

I know the feeling too back in the day. There was a time when I took a break from SC4 while my studies got in the way, but found myself getting back to it. Then a few years after that, I joined ST and the rest is history. Time sure does have a habit of flying, but with each day arrives a new opportunity.

The site will look a little (or a lot) different now from 15 years ago, and I'm sure you're seeing a few new faces too.

All the best in your explorations and future community contributions!
