Hi all,

I have registered a little while ago, but figured it would be polite to introduce myself. I started with simcity 3000 when it came out and enjoyed playing it, but never really put a lot of effort in it. I started playing simcity 4 one year ago and really like it. A good game to relax, better then all them shooters. I really like the custom content from the stex and that is what brought me to this site. It all brings a bit more realism in the game.

Reading and looking at all the posts and cj's give me a lot of inspiration to build even neater city's.

Too bad I don't have much spare time. I study Architecture and am also running my own photography business. So actually I can't afford wasting time playing games, but simcity gives me the relaxing, slightly autistic, alone time I need once in a while.

Good day!

I used to play SC4 a number of years back. As I recall, it was about 2006ish and I played for a few years on a computer that was both lagging in performance and youth :P Therefore, after a while I eventually had to uninstall it due to its strain on my old computer (dare I say...bought in 2001?! 256mb RAM and 72G hard drive :rage:). Finally, I have gotten a new, up-to-date machine. My new computer, along with a pang of nostalgia, prompted me to resume SC4. Starting from scratch, my goal is to create a desirable CJ by the end of the year. I've designed some beautiful cities in my heyday and I'm pretty good at Photoshop to tweak some oomph into images, so I guess that's a plus.

Bottom line is, I've always loved city simulators. SC4 is my favorite, hands down. I do like the graphics of Cities XL and City Life, but I'm more bigger on strategy than looks. But SC4 is certainly more than suitable (for me) as far as graphics are concerned and this is the game that I grew up on (I've also played the original Sim City and also Sim City 2000). Few things are more satisfying than putting in hours of work into a sprawling metropolis and seeing the finished product.

Hello everyone. I am new to SIm City. I know all these years of playing FPS games I finaly wanted something new, different and relaxing (At times) to play in my older years. Picked up the Sim City Box and I have to say after several weeks of playing I am digging SimCity 4. I have 4 cities going in a region. Only 128,000 people total so far with my largest city at arounf 48,000. I hit 50,000 a few times for a breif spell but it keeps dropping. :(

Well just wanted to say hello. Now I am off to read all the threads and info on this site.

Peace

Hello Wings80, Welcome to Simtropolis!

@Wings80 - 128,000 isn't that bad, but hey, you can show us your cities by posting in the City Journals Section. Also, remember to save your game all the time and also install patches for more relaxing gaming experience. Here is my help to you if you want to search for something:

Check out the forums to ask questions and see answers. Also, don't forget to check out the Omnibus. That section holds tutorials as well as interviews and new city building games. Lastly, why not go to the City Journal Section. Check out the latest creations as well as the latest trends!

Hello,

I didn't know what username to pick for this forum so I chose Nu yok city which is a play on New York city. I've mostly played the original SimCity classic and SimCity 2000, and a little of SimCity 3000 and SimCity 4. I didn't get into SimCity Societies, Spore or other modern city building games too much but I have some ideas about potential modern city builder games which I'd like to share and hopefully get some feedback on.

Thanks for reading and take care.

What's going on everyone?

Thought I would introduce myself since I've been downloading from the STEX the past two days.

I've been playing since Sim City 2000 when I was about eight and haven't turned back. I haven't played Sim City 4 in about two years and my CD was all scratched up so I bought the Deluxe edition on Amazon and its been bringing back so many great memories. I never went past SC4 but the uploads the creative members of this site have really kept this game fresh and I don't find myself getting tired of it. As you can tell by my username I am a huge fan of Philadelphia sports teams, notably the Flyers, and I am a current student at Penn State.

Looking forward to posting with you guys.

Hello Nuyokcity, Adooxx and Flyers627, Welcome to Simtropolis!

@Nuyokcity - It's okay, some members of the community have never liked city building games such as SimCity Societies.

@Adooxx - Hi!

@Flyers627 - Welcome to Simtropolis, Flyers Fan! Well, keep on digging, you'll see more and more great stuff down at the STEX.

Well, let me introduce myself to you guys: I'm 111222333444, a member of Simtropolis since 2009 but I only started participating in the community last spring after I found out there is more than just the STEX. Keep on digging, because you'll see great stuff here in Simtropolis.

Why not visit the following links, just to get you started:

This is Omnibus, where you get most of the tutorials as well as articles made by our fellow Simtropolis Members.

This is City Journals, where you can see as well as post your current projects, cities as well as ideas.

Have fun with your stay at Simtropolis!

Hey, I want to say hello and thank you for having this community. You can call me Rome, I'm from Jersey and am pretty new to this kind of thing. I have an Asus w/ I5 and have been pretty happy with it. I bought SC4 back in 05 when I had a Dell pc that wasn't cabable of running it (doh!).

I'm just getting into SC4 and appreciate the wealth of knowledge and all the effort put into the mods for this game. I will be reading all the pinned articles for good info and, if you have any other sites (checked out sc4 devotion) or articles that are good reads for begginers feel free to mention them.

Again thanks for all the work that it takes to create a community like this.

Hi Rome, Welcome to Simtropolis!

@Rome - You should read all articles, not just the pinned ones, since some of them have more insight than the ones pinned! And you'll feel more welcomed to Simtropolis, thanks to our closely knit community as well as helpful members.

Why not check out City Journals, where you get inspired by the creations of our members, as well as the STEX, to see the latest BATs and Mods.

Hello ST community. My name is Cooper. I am from Madison, WI. I am currently going to college in Claremont, CA. I am about to embark upon a massively ambitious project that uses the to-scale region of NYC. Though my city will be very much "New York", I also am taking a great deal of influence from my own midwestern cities (Chicago, Milwaukee, Madison). I am also pulling a lot of influence from the british suburban style, and also from Germany via the midwest (I love the neo-gothic industrial brick style of Chicago/Milwaukee). The city will be called Ixelles. I hope to make a city journal if it starts going well. I will start once I pare my plugin folder to a functional size. I am using almost strictly all plugins for my project, so thus need a large one. I'm trying to collect all of the good East Coast and Midwest W2W BATs, as well as some German W2Ws and British W2Ws (I suppose I'll throw some of those handsom Paris W2Ws in there too). To supplement, plenty of brick-based industrial BATs (love jestarr's work for this).

I'm trying to wrap my head around the PEG stuff, but it might take some time. I am putting a premium on a realistic wharf-based coast, so I may need to.

Let me know if any of you have any suggestions.

Also, do any of the BAT masters take requests? I would love to suggest some awesome Milwaukee and Chicago buildings. I think that any of the members of the Barry Sanders Project would be able to do these buildings justice. I especially enjoy the works of nofunk, due to his/her attention to the often overlooked architecture of Milwaukee.

Here is an example of one I admire:

YWCAMadison10.jpg

This is the YWCA Building in Madison, WI.

Anyways, I am rambling for sure.

Hi silviasusann and CBrown88, welcome to Simtropolis!

@silviasusann - it's okay, we have a lot of very nice and German-fluent members on the site.

@CBrown88 - you can do that in the BAT Request Thread, which is located somewhere here in the forums

Why not check out City Journals, where you get inspired by the creations of our members, as well as the STEX, to see the latest BATs and Mods.

Never really introduced myself despite being here since '09. I'm Zc456, Zenon Tigerpaw or Squeaks. I've been playing Sim games since I was 10 and started out with SimCity Classic (literary) and have been in love with Maxis or EA/Maxis games ever since. Classic, SC3kU, and 4 are my favorites in the SimCity series. I've dreamed creating my own SimCity-like game and finally got that chance with Micropolis. Cheers! I've been working on my own fork of the game for a while now.

Normally I use this account just for downloads (when the servers decide to work) but I've been meaning to get more active in the SimTropolis community for a looooong while now.

Well, "welcome!" Since you have been here since '09 and downloading, I probably don't need to tell you about the great content on the STEX. Getting involved happens at different points for some users. I was semi-active a while after I first joined and went into hibernation for 2 years, only lurking and downloading with an occasional post. I have been much more active since around July this year.

So, welcome to Simtropolis despite being for a while. :D Hope to see you around more!

Hey there i've been playing sim city games since 1995 roughly. Always loved them, i am currently playing sc4 deluxe(seeing as how its the most recent one) I have never got into the modding an cheats an everything, i always just played the game how it came. I've recently came across this website so now i'm interested in just new building. Getting tired of looking at the same old ones all the time. First off let me say i've rooted though some of the building people created, an all i can say is great job. Some of those building are amazing looking. On that note i was wondering if you had to DL each buidling or if there was like a file that had a bunch of building in it? That way i could get a whole bunch new at once. An were do i DL them to. I apologize ahead of time if there is a tutorial or something somewere else that i missed. thanks for your time, Long live SimCity!!!

Hi Kao1, Welcome to Simtropolis, Online City Building Community!

@Kao - Well, we're happy you finally came over the site. However, did you also know that SimCity 4 has an extensive amount of custom buildings made by our members, such as Cockatoo and Bipin? On the other hand, why not download the Network Addon Mod, a transportation-oriented modification that allows more realism to your cities (recommended: RealHighway Mod and Network Widening Mod as well as Day n' Nite Mod (Darknite)). They can be all found on the STEX, located on the Navigation bar of the site.

Why not check out parts of Simtropolis, such as City Journals, where you get enthralled by award-winning people such as TowerDude, Skimbo and _marsh_ or the Omnibus, which gives insight to tutorials and articles made by our fellow STEX members. Try this TOUR of Simtropolis for more information!

Im just coming in to say hello to everyone. Been a SC player since the SNES days, however, just joined this board because I want to get into some mods for SC4 to tide me over to SC2013. I was at a competing fansite and they were AWFUL when it came to organization, instruction, etc, so I quickly left there, came here and have been MORE THAN PLEASED with the amount of clear, concise content that I've seen on here so far and I just started! I'm a software developer by trade, and the fact that I was confused by a simple forum is just disppointing.

So I wanted to come, say hi and say THANK YOU for the information so far, even though I'm sure Murphy's Law will take over, something will break and I'll come asking for help :)
