Back when SimPeg disappeared some of the PLEX files were found to be missing from the STEX, to help a CB user who needed a missing dependency ... those missing files that I was aware of got added here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cbex?folder=PLEX%2BFiles

This doesn't include anything by Paeng as I have written permission from him to host all his files

It was meant to be a temporary solution until they were added to the STEX by the SimPeg staff, here we are a year later ... anyway its time to come up with a more permanent solution for the CB website, anything to do with the SimPeg site will be moved over to here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cb-community/pages/64-simpeg

I will be added in redirects so if someone has a link to any of these files or documents then it will point you at the new location, also anything I have been able to retrieve from the Wayback Archive will end up in the new location and also Paeng was able to save some additional information from SimPeg which I will be including as well.

This won't happen overnight, but I do want to eventually get all the SimPeg information in the one place, hopefully some of it will also end up here or over at SC4D once a decision is reached regarding this article by @Tarkus

Sorry for the double post, but I wanted this to be separate

I have given @rsc204 permission to upload any of Paeng's plugins or forum attachments that are missing from the STEX, I would give the same permission to staff from SC4Devotion but Paeng never uploading anything to the LEX so I would need to discuss via PM if SC4D did want to host his files.

Catty-CB

I have not indulged in SC4 for a couple of years and for whatever reason, I decided to have a look and see what was happening, and discovered the sad news about the PEG website.

I believe that I may be able to help with missing files. I knocked up a spreadsheet listing 379 of PEG files that I have. If I can get this to you somehow to allow you to mark what you need, I will oblige. Also in NZ if that helps.

You can attach the file to your post. Look in the lower left right below the typing box while posting and you will see the "Drag files here to attach, or Choose Files..." option. If you wish to keep it private you can do the same in a Private Message to catty-cb. If the file happens to be larger than 4mb, you can Zip it to reduce the size.

Thanks, but before you attach any spreadsheets to here ... and much appreciated by the way  :thumb:

I've been indexed the various SC4 Exchanges for years so this is what was on the PLEX when it went down

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cb-documents/11-catalog-by-website/11-simpeg-exchange

I then went thru and try to find the plugins new location which is what this list is

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cb-documents/11-catalog-by-website/98-simpeg-exchange-url-updated

to be honest a couple of them I'm really not to sure about as there seems to have been some differences between versions held on the PLEX and what is now available on the STEX, anyway near as I can figure it, these ones are still missing

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cbex?folder=PLEX%2BFiles

the plan is to move these files over to here

https://community.simtropolis.com/clubs/26-city-builders-website/cb-community/pages/64-simpeg

but equally could end up doing something else with them, but that depends on some decisions to be made by the main sites ... see the link in one of my above posts to an article that @Tarkus wrote about the future of custom content.

Given the thousands of downloads, the PEG mods should all (in theory) be recoverable (from personal stores if nothing else). And I appreciate what I see happening to preserve those files.

What may still be at risk is the corporate knowledge about usage and mod-interactions etc flushed away when the site and its forums went dark. I thought that the "Wayback Machine" might help, but sadly no (and others tried that and failed before).

Does Simtropolis have a modding subforum dedicated to PEG discussion? If we can attract knowledgeable people and funnel questions to them in one place, we might over time reconstruct/reinvent that lost library of expertise.

Paeng passed onto me what he had saved from SimPeg so I've got, or at least I think I've got all the tutorials, people were asking about three of them so I uploaded them here

Honestly, I'd say almost all the files managed to be recovered to my knowledge. But information on the forums themselves is quite another story, the idea of trying to restore that is simply not practical. Anyone who has copies of tutorials and other useful data from SimPeg is free to post it here. But I'd be very surprised if most of it wasn't simply gone for good.

Bear in mind though, there is plenty of information out there on other sites, if you know where to find it. Between ST, SC4D and the SC4D Wiki, so much information exists for any player or would-be modder to find answers to most things. Speaking as one of those "knowledgeable people", I'm far more interested in dedicating my time to making the existing information easier to find and more organised. Having spent a lot of my time trying to learn from the ground up in the last few years, I'm all to aware of it's shortcomings. But there is no easy fix, it's going to take a lot of work to make a difference. Steps are underway, but it'll be years before that matures into something better.

Do you like custom textures, but don't like all the work involved creating them?, take a look at the Texture Automation options here. Change the look and feel of your transit networks, with the minimum of effort, for example customised versions of my Sidewalk NAM (SWN) and Terrain Grass NAM (TGN) mods, and much more besides.

Well not gone for good, but I've no idea what's still  relevant like this attachment or if any of the tutorials are complete ... it was one of the reasons I was planning on uploading all the files Paeng gave me over at CB and let people rummage thru them and see if anything is worth saving.

Well I did say "most", sure Paeng handed over a cache of stuff and there will no doubt be some real gems in there. But that's a tiny fraction of what was once on the site.

As for the .PDF file you posted, best guess that's just Paeng's development notes for his Parks 205 set. I think all the useful parts (for end users) is covered in the download information on the STEX.

I've got three folders called DOCUMENTATIONS, SIMPOSIUM and TUTORIALs, the contents of the Documentations folder is now available over over at CB (SimPeg Page), there were a number of subfolders in it which I had to zip up before uploading plus a few loose files, the simposium files some of them I'll be able to upload, but others like the mosaic tutorial are 59mb in size even zipping it up its still 21mb in size (so I'm probably going to have to use dropbox and provide links to them).

Some of them like the LE Workshop have plugins included ... but that's going to have to be another day as its rapidly heading towards my bedtime here.

Reminds me when I visited the Senckenberg Museum in Frankfurt, a natural science museum. The beginning of their collection dates back in 1817, when a group of scientists and some enthusiasts founded the Senckenberg Society and they started to collect ... well ... animals, plants, bones ... nature stuff. What they collected often didn't have great importance, just some birds from Africa, just some mammals from Mongolia. But it happened that some of those animals they collected  (stuffed or in alcohol) vanished from earth. And as nobody else had taken care, the one in the Seckenberg Museum turned out to be only witness they once had been on earth. And therefore the collection became known worldwide amongst natural scientists.

I've learned from this - that 'importance' can't be judge by a single person, nor by a group nor by a society. Change them and the importance of things changes too. Philosophical one could say 'importance' is a relation between men and the things in the world but nothing the things in the world have inherent. It's something you give to this or that.

Both sentences 'everything is important' and 'nothing is important' are the same. As 'importance' is an operator to make a difference between things.  And only if you use it as such an operator it makes sense.

But this difference doesn't exist without a subject making it. So about 'importance' it's mostly about self consciousness. The question 'what is important' tells more about me than about the things - and to answer it helps me to understand my will, my desires, my state - it doesn't explain the world.

So the first question would be: when/why is it relevant to set this difference? Is it important to make a difference of the importance between catty-cb and rsc204? What is the gain, the insight in making this difference, in saying so? All this points back towards me.

So the question to start with would be: what is the necessarity to sort between necessary and unnecessary stuff, what's the reason to sort things out.

You have to get hindsight of the categories that settles 'importance' for you first.

As if you decide to delete unimportant files because they are unimportant - you did a circular argument and mostly you become a victim of prejudices. F.e. me, all text I hardly understand I tend to regard as unimportant Or text with a terrible layout or text written in very small letters. How did I make up 'importance' doing so?

About the paeng document:

The pdf you attached is included in the download of 'paengs park revisited' (same name, same content) and I don't think there is a need to keep a separate copy of it, as the containing information is still actual but closely related to this download.

Well, let me suggest this a different way: The PEG collection is big, sort of like NAM or CAM. "NAM & Transit Networks" is its own subforum under the Open Modding, and there's a CAM subforum at SC4. Is PEG big enough to have its own subforum for future discussion and Q&A, and if so, what would be the best home for it?

It's a little bit hidden, but there already is a Peg-related board here at ST, Simpeg Night Owls, under the SC4 BAT - Team Projects subforum.

The thing is, there is little to no chance that there will be any further developments from the Pegasus team. So what exactly is there to discuss? For support related issues with PEG content, there is this thread:

For those wishing to discuss it's demise, that can be done here. Outside of that, any attempts to handle the legacy content doesn't need a dedicated section of the site. There simply isn't enough traction on that to merit such exposure.

Offhand, no. And I'm out of time this evening to provide a better answer. *:(

However, the whole collection is here: SPAM - SimPeg Agricultural Mods and you can also post in the Can't find it?... Ask here! thread which many more peeps read and someone there could prolly help.

While not yet being able to locate that specific Group and Instance, I've seemingly got quite close. After checking the main SPAM resources, a bit of searching around and I came across the addon sets by @paeng being the Riding School and Stables, and another named Vol03: Residentials.

Opening these files up in Reader:

SPAM_Riding-School.dat
SPAM_Farmhouse_grow02.dat

I found entries with:

T = 5ad0e817
G = 17519ddb
I = 00030000

Like so:

Reader G-17519ddb I-00030000.png

On the S3D file entry as selected and highlighted on the right side panel, it gives the name of: paeng_blank_building_UserModel_Z1S_0

Comparing with the other ones, it seems the Z1 means Zoom level 1, and S refers to the orientation of the model facing South. As for being a "blank building", this I believe is a technique some lotters used to set a model which is so small it's invisible, and then cannot interfere with the lot's visual appearance when plopped. The thing is as defined in the Lot Editor, all lots require a "building" model from where the properties are assigned. This then provides certain characteristics of functionality.

I'm simply speculating here, but perhaps the Group 17519dd8 with the same Instance you're looking for is similar to this functionality and likewise was created by paeng. Then it's referenced in the main properties exemplar as the "SPAM maxis farm accessories", but the actual model isn't anything which is visually noticeable other than if a brown box shows. I suppose it depends on if you're trying to locate this as a missing dependency. In which case using iLive's Reader it could be possible to copy over all the S3D and FSH files included in either of these example uploads, then change over the Group on each entry to replace the b with an 8 at the end.

Maybe this helps a little?  I'm not so sure myself, but I figured I'd post this anyway just in case...

As @CorinaMarie suggested, it might be worth replying in the linked CFI thread too since that tends to receive a greater collective following. If you'd like we can also move your question from this current thread to a brand new one. That may encourage additional replies with it being focussed around a specific technical subject.

The SPAM Maxis Farm Accessories is listed in my records as one of Paeng Forum Attachments, but the file name is maxis_farm_MMP.dat and in Paeng's notes on it he has down as the description "Maxis Farm Props MMP - Small MMP with the Maxis Farm Accessories (Scarecrow, Troughs, Hay etc)"
