It's been a long time since I've posted here. The new interface is quite nice looking, but I had just gotten used to the last major change. :D

Can we get an option to review the BBCode for forum and CJ/Sig updates? A lot of the time I will write on SC4D for my CJ first, and then port the code over to here, and fix whatever errors are left. With the new post editor I cannot view the BBCode, and therefore cannot incorporate the code from SC4D into my Simtrop post.

It would also just be nice to be able to work with the BBCode directly. Is this being looked at, or is the option removed permanently?

Ran into a PLEX page today that was full of bbcode.  Are we going to allow bbcode to be translated or not?

Is it possible to see the HTML/BBcode or whatever the CJ section is using when you write a post? In the old format there was a button to see the code, but I can't find it in the new one :-(

An issue which keeps occurring quite often is when I want to post pictures the insert other media window keeps loading without inserting it. Sometimes even using ... doesn't work.

Also, the right click window has changed. The only option I get is "paste". I guess it has to do something with the source code or something.

BBCODE should be parsed (or parsing) for all of STEX/PLEX...

Yes, I'll try to get this button back soon, it was handy!

The right click is hijacked by the Tables plugin for the wysiwyg editor... you can control-right click to bypass it, but I'm trying to find a better way.

Forewarned is forearmed, thanks for the heads up on tomorrow's new toaster.

EDIT Next Day (25th): So here we are after lunch, and the question is have you done the deed?  If all went smoothly, we shouldn't be able to tell, but you still have your notice posted.

Trying to choose a new GIF avatar doesn't seem to work. It's saying this type of fily is not allowed (standard .gif)

Also, what happened to those stats showing top posters of the day, all-time posters etc.? Are they gone forever?

Here we are again.  I hope the new server will be better for those on slower lines.  I haven't noticed any difference.

One question: Why isn't there a full text editor available when uploading/editing a file's description? It seems like every button is there except the options to change Font/Size. Is that on purpose, or is it an oversight?

The font buttons are at the top of the frame next to the preview button.  They are drop down boxes.

Is it possible to just search STEX file names, rather than everything in the STEX?

I was searching for train stations, and I can limit my search to files (STEX), but can't filter by game (SC4/SC2013/C:S) or limit to name/description, which is what the STEX search used to do. It pulled up every comment/review mention of Station that it found, and adding train station, even in quotes, was little help, because of the vast number of duplicate entries.

Would it be possible to change the STEX search, or add additional parameters to avoid the mess that a wide search currently ends up being?

In the near future (possibly a month or so), the developers are planning to add a "Search in titles" option. This will be along with other refinements to improve the functionality of the search system, such as context based searching.

To search only within a STEX category, open the dropdown menu, then select "This category":

As it stands, the search is quite powerful, but its accessibility can be improved. To help make it open, as staff we're going to create a searching guide. This will explain how to effectively use the features to find specific content you're looking for.

An own code search is very hard to write.  There are existing searches you can use (google for example).

For the developers, why not implement grep?  You can save yourselves a lot of grief, and the code is public domain.  Special considerations such as search boundaries shouldn't be that hard to add.  And you can add all the specialized parameters you like, but a little user training can get around that.

For the benefit of casual readers: grep stands for General Regular Expression Parse.

The issue I have right now with searching the STEX is that it behaves like a Google search. I can isolate the search to STEX results, but the search engine includes all mentions of the query, especially from the comments/reviews section, which is very unhelpful if you're trying to find a STEX list of train stations, or other similar topic. Forum lists aren't always helpful in this regard either, due to the lack of pictures and ready data.

Do you limit your search to the STEX directory only, or the whole site?  Also, the general Google search is pretty sophisticated and you should be able to limit things with various options and wildcards.  This is the whole point with the GNU General Regular Expression Search (grep).

Well, it's limited to the STEX directory, but I can't limit the search to just the filenames/STEX entries. There is no obvious way to do this, and tbh it shouldn't be required. Generally a STEX search should always search first for STEX title/name and then the STEX filename, and the comments should be an optional search (a useful option, for sure, but secondary in requirement, esp. when searching a file exchange).

The issue I'm having is that doing a search for files named "school" brings up every comment on the STEX ever made about schools, in addition to the files that are so named appropriately, which is extremely unhelpful when you have something like 14+ pages of results (30per page or so) to sift through.

Let's hope they can get a "titles only" parameter into the search.  The other possibility is to change the search string so that you seek the key word only at the beginning or end of a string.  This won't get everything, but might get enough.

One needs to know the layout of the data to be of more help.  If titles are separated from the rest of the text someway, it can be used.  In a reasonable data base, even SQL Based, there should be a separate field for title.  Would be nice if we could see the scheme for these files.  I've done a lot of work on network data bases, and quite a bit on SQL standards, and I could maybe see a way.
