Different opinions _B. Hahaha.

Also, I noticed that images don't resize themselves in the City Journal section. How do we go about this? Can we bring the automatic resize back or at least some code to make sure images look of the same length.

I try to edit my signature because, I don't know why, my pictures were changed to quotes from myself on the threads, but I can't delete the quotes, just edit the texts.

Dirk, when can we edit our signatures? I think mine is taking up so much space. Hahaha.

You can edit your signature by going to Account Settings -> Signature.

After inserting an image into a post, right click on it and select "Image Properties" you can then set widths and heights and other advanced attributes.

When you paste a link that refers to this site, it will convert it to a preview. You can prevent that from happening by linking some text instead like this.

I think you mentioned about image resizing, but since that problem about resizing is solved, I see that the solution made some of the mosaics do not connect properly as it once did. Now it had that ugly white space between the images. :P

I also noticed the space when creating a new paragraph. Maybe that needs a little change too.

Yes, when you hit ENTER on the keyboard, it will put a new <P> tag which looks like this:

    New line.

If you hold SHIFT+ENTER then it will put a <BR> tag like this:
which is a bit closer, but there will still be a small gap.

I'll try to find a way to allow CJ images to be flush together... in the meantime,  shift+enter is the best we can do.

Thanks for the feedback! In terms of mosaic, you can just add the photos together in paint or photoshop for the meantime if you do not want to see white lines in between each images.

Does that mean that there are no size restrictions anymore? If we can insert the whole long picture we don't really need to fix the problem of the separation.

It's true. There are file size limits, but no image dimension restrictions.

Just out of curiosity, I took a look at the code for this page using my inspection tool in Firefox.  There is a lot of stuff in the various CSS files supporting this site.  I am surprised it runs at all.  As for allowing people to insert HTML code in their posts, I think it would be difficult as there would have to be a very strong editor capable of eliminating anything that might be (accidentally) damaging to the site.

Anyone knows how can i insert flag counter?

For me, I just copied and pasted the image code from the website that made the counter.

Go to flagcounter.com, customise as you wish and copy and past the "Code for forums" text. It will look like: (With some square brackets at the front and end.)

    URL=http://info.flagcounter.com/XX8J]

    Initial reactions:

    • loss of floating top menu is killer.  Why is this gone?
    • Circle avatars are awful.  dislike.
    • It's slower.  Noticeably, and we are on an OC3 here, so it isn't on my end.
    • The pink buttons don't match the blue/grey.  In fact, they contrast badly.  Dump the pink.
    • This very reply box is very busy.  The buttons should be reduced in size significantly.
    • I really don't like the "bouncy" nature of the page changes.  IE, change to page 3 in this thread, see it bounce to the top, then kinda difuze, then fill in page 3.
    • VERY IMPORTANT.  Why isn't google spell check bringing up options?  This is a CRITICAL feature of google chrome, and it straight up doesn't work on a right click in this post entry system.  All that comes up is a lame copy/paste dialouge.  This isn't an acceptable hijack of right click...

Well, I am guessing that the pink is supposed to be an accent color. The intention is to contrast the blue/grey seen in most of this website. But orange might contrast blue better as blue and orange are complementary colors.

EDIT: I don’t mind the pink, rather I am just saying that orange would contrast blue better than the pink that is used.

One thing I've noticed that I'm not a fan of is just the layout from a space usage perspective - the layout is too "big" and there's quite a bit of wasted (white) space.  As an example, it now takes me about 5 passes of the scroll wheel to reach the bottom of the Forums page.  Is there any chance the general theme can be compressed a bit?

I'm also finding that the font in the forum posts isn't as easily readable as the old style was.  It's fuzzier; as if it were intended for a higher resolution.

    Question:

How do I use "Spoilers" in the new Simtropolis. Whenever I select what text I want to hide, it selects the whole thing.

In the previous version of ST you could sort the City Journal section by last comment as well as last entry. Currently it just looks like Last Entry is available as a sort option. Any chance of having a Last Comment (or even better a Last Activity) category added back in?

I found a small bug that's present under the status feed tab on user profile pages other than one's own:

    qgzCamT.png

The sentence stating the feed is disabled is aimed at the wrong person ("Your") and the link to enable it shouldn't be there.

    Cheers.

The previous layout was pretty long too, so I don't think the main forum listing is that much longer than previously, and it wouldn't be by much. You can collapse forums you don't frequent by clicking the title bars for now.  There will be additional design themes in the future that may alter the layout a bit more.

I'm not sure what you mean by fuzzy, do you have a screen shot? Thanks.

Nonny above demonstrates...! The spoilers will only hide full lines

...because it collapses the line, it doesn't just black-out the text. So you can only spoiler on a per line basis...

    not per word.

The new Journals section is a bit behind on features compared to the previous version. The developers do intend to roll out updates to address the gap. For now, I apologize that area is a little bit deficient with features -- I expect that to improve.

I am new here so not able to say if I like it better or not, it seems fine to me though. I did want to suggest to have the comments area of the mods "on" by default, rather than having to click over to read them. I didn't notice the tab to read comments for the mods... and a few mods I would have never downloaded if I had read them first. Now I know... but might be easier for new users if the comments are viewable by default :)

I'm not sure if it has to do with LCD font smoothing or being cross-compatible with phones or what.  It reminds me of when people on Mac forums complain about new visual features (designed for Retina displays) looking lousy on older monitors - or what I imagine they're complaining about (interestingly I haven't had the issue before).

The reply/edit boxes, on the other hand, are perfectly readable (including the text in your quote as I type this).

I'm losing something in the JPEG compression so this might not be a very valid picture.

When I post a image wider than the page, it gets 'squished' width-wise but it's fine length-wise. The result is distorted unless the image is clicked on for full size.

Before the site upgrade, images were still squished, but the length was also resized to keep the original aspect ratio.

    Example: this 1920x1080 image.

Edit your post.  Double click your image or right-click and select Image Properties.  You've defined a height but not the width, so that's why it looks squished.  Just leave both fields empty (height and width) and it will scale proportionately.

When editing a post, an Edited By stamp is added to the end of the post.  There is a field for explaining reasons for an edit, and sometimes even a checkbox to enable the showing of the Edited By stamp.  However, the checkbox is enabled by default, and the checkbox is sometimes not always offered.  I'm all for integrity of contents of posts during a discussion, but I often edit just to fix spelling, punctuation, grammar, and often even line spacing.  Sometimes, composition of the post is more important, and having that Edited By line can disrupt the presentation.  In the previous version of the forum, this was resolved with an account preference to default disable the checkbox for the Edited By line.  Can that default preference be restored?

On the mobile web version of the forum, there no longer seems to be a direct way to reach the main forum page here once you start down into the sub-forums and topics.  The mobile website's available navigation button only takes you to the next immediate higher level group or forum in the tree, but not back to the top.  The only other option is to use your browser's back buttons, which can involve a lot of backpedaling out of certain topic threads.  In the previous mobile web version, the Simtropolis header at the top of the forums would take you to the main forum page, but now it links to the Simtropolis homepage.  However, the Simtropolis homepage in mobile web currently does not seem to offer a link to the forums.  The only way to reach the forum from the current homepage in mobile web is to jump into any random forum posting being featured on the homepage, and then back navigate up the tree until we reach the main forum page.  Indeed, the Simtropolis homepage for mobile web does not offer any navigation...not to the forums, not to the STEX, not to City Journals, not to the Omnibus...the mobile web homepage is only showing featured entries.  At least his is how it is working for me using the default Android web browser in old Android 4.0.4.

    .

    .

    .

Yay, we can put cover photos in our profiles.  I had to guess at a guideline, such as the 1278 max pixel width.  More importantly, there is a profile Activity Feed, but what gets fed in?  Some prolific posters and commentators oddly seem to have no recent activity to show.
