Working on creating a map of the Buffalo NY area. Right now I'm tweaking the grayscale image, the information from terrain party is very off. Almost done with the bodies of water, I'm most proud of how the harbor area is turning out.

That's one cool riverfront CBD :)

I can't double post, so I'll just edit this one....

I'm working on this city, and it is part of my first City Journal (I hope I won't fall or fail in completing this).... BTW, check that big Bus/Train/Metro Terminal on the far left (hard to see due to the screenshot, but it's close to that tall building ---- Euromarine Tower).

@Nevermore2797I really like how your Freeway winds through your suburbs! It looks great. Here's a bit of work on Helios City. Mostly what I have so far.

Looks like my city updated...... I might extend that highway on the lower corner that ends up with an intersection in that First Industrial Area, and will look like the ones the YT user Yuttho did to his highway. (I might disable Demand Master mod because I do not know why I'm not getting custom growable buildings --- the buildings I subscribe on the workshop just won't build, and MORE vanilla stuff builds repeatedly, but the main problem will be Industrial demand (they mostly like to have 0 demand, and forces me to piss off, and I do not want to fall or fail this) since WHY DOES INDUSTRIAL AND OFFICE NEED TO BE IN THE SAME DEMAND -- I like it separated to avoid annoyance?!). Anyway, Log #4 will come soon in a reasonable timeframe :).

Started this town about two hours ago. Progress is slow but positive, and this is (so far) arguably the most aesthetically pleasing I've created in CSL. Just nevermind the obvious borders.

Rectnly downloaded the terraform mod, but I haven't gotten a chance to let it show it's true colors. So I decided to create a harbor in a place that really wasn't designed to have a harbor placed in it. Turned out rather well, despite the 60m railway.

update: here's the core of the city, a kilometer or two south of the harbor. CBD to be constructed around the big lots to the right.

It's Koko Head, with the Koko Crater and the sea-filled crater of Hanauma Bay on Oʻahu!  It looks awesome!  While the Koko Crater is easy to spot, often overlooked is that the large spinal ridge of stark "mountain ranges" is actually a surviving segment of the southwestern rim of an ancient monster volcano, most of whose circumference has collapsed back into the ocean in a gigantic, prehistoric landslide.  From this part of Oʻahu you can actually see eastwards from lookouts the neighboring island of Molokaʻi, whose northern coast has a similar line of cliff-like mountains, which were the southeastern rim of a collapsed ancient volcano which also similarly cascaded back down into the ocean.  On the right side of the image are two islands, which I always knew as "Rabbit Island" and "Shark Island."  When seen from the Makapuʻu beach and picnic park jutting out from the coast, the better known larger island has the strong profile of a rabbit, while the smaller island resembles a shark with dorsal fin chasing the rabbit from behind.  It would be pretty cool if those same profiles managed to survive the import process and could be seen within the game from virtual Makapuʻu.  There used to be bunnies on Rabbit Island, and the surrounding waters were warned of being full of sharks.

I intended to post this earlier today. Technically, I'm not working on this anymore because I just finished and posted it. It's a map of Astoria, Oregon, where the Goonies come from.

I started a city on the Koko Head map:

2WxB36n.jpg2MzOnTb.jpg

My goal is to have no highways. There is only one 6-lane main road. I used the zoning toggle mod to disable zoning for the main road. The main road is only connected at a few points:

pZVlQ6r.jpg

Here is a video that shows the timed traffic lights at the intersection that is highlighted on the map. It is the only critical point because there are so many trucks turning left:

Today I played with the fine road heights mod.

I found out a few undocumented shortcuts:

CTRL+UP/DOWN to change the elevation step (minimum 1m)

CTRL+LEFT/RIGHT to force a specific network type (elevated, bridge, ground, normal)

With the second option, it is possible to create sunken highways (and other sunken networks).

These were done without any terraforming, on a flat map:

In anticipation of a Chinatown theme, I'm working on a set of parks with all the wonderful Chinatown assets now available on the workshop (thanks Soldyne and also Shroomblaze for the incredible trees!). I'm trying to make each park use only a handful of non-vanilla assets so people aren't intimidated by the number of required items. The nice result is that these parks blend in nicely in non-Chinatown areas. Here's a 4x4 wishing well park:

The main city on my map is more or less finished (as far as that's even possible), so to fill up some unused map space I'm currently working on a small industrial town inspired by the ones like you find them in the Rust Belt (think the movie The Deer Hunter). Unfortunately the game lacks real industrial grime and filth, so it all looks a bit sanitized, but so far so good.

What an excellent tip! Thank you. I've already started experimenting with it, and it's seriously cool.

I've posted the first two of my new parks with Chinatown assets (#1 seen above) to the workshop, in case anyone is interested:

  2. http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=514241798

Speaking of which, I try really hard not to post anything to the STEX that has required items from Steam. Anyone have an opinion about that? Is that a good practice, or should I just not worry about it too much?

I've been working on some suburban areas. I'm going for a uniform American look.

Fantastic suburbs! I have tried to create areas like this. Those Neo-Classic houses are great, I just haven't built up the supply of commercial quite yet. So I typically have a huge sea of houses and then a very odd/out of place commercial area. You've nailed it perfectly, though! :D

Prevous work on Seattle suffered a setback; however, coming back with this work so far.  Cleaned up Interstate 5 to its more final state, although the work noticeably shifted the entire I-5/I-90 interchange north by like 100 meters.  I was pretty proud in making this bridge over the freeway, and so much elevation differences everywhere.

dZfqSCy.jpg

Initial work on the Seattle CBD has commenced, but I'm personally experiencing my own "Denny Regrade" in laying out the city in modifying the terrain to suit the city.  Making Yesler Way has been interesting so far.  Don't mind the crazy turns on the freeway, just signifies the difference between official completion and what was laid out in map editor.  Pretty much all the freeways laid out will be edited to rough accuracy.

Hey guys... I'm making another city, and guess what........

K9fYH0w.jpg

I just made 3 embassies in one area of who (guess them).... :)

Anyway, this is the view of my WiP City.

Area view of the city....

About the City Journal I posted last July, I will be back.. I just can't continue because of college. I think the next journal episode will feature this city instead of the old one since this area is huge, and I can do more than the last one. I think I'll be posting the next journal when After Dark has been released. No promises.. :)
