For example, when switching from a road type to another (say, highway to 2-lane one way road), the road markings are not continuous (like all those nice NAM transitions) and the game adds pedestrian crossings.

Also, you can't connect a road to just one side of an avenue. And there are no acceleration/deceleration lanes on highways, plus the ramps can be joined at what in real life would be a dangerous angle. This as well as turning lanes are a must for both function and realism!

Strongly agree. The game looks absolutely awesome, but more realistic highway ramps and interchanges are needed. Especially as these appear to have such an important role in the game.

I would love it if one the fine modelers out there would do a guard rail for higways and roads. And some modder could set it up so that it's draggable like the roads, highways and paths with the straight/curve/freeform. We never really got a good set of guard rails in SC4 because some of the limitations of placing them on slopes iirc.

BTW, there are already quite a few useful mods already uploaded. Some that I am using are the Tree Brush, Purple to Brown for industrial mod, achievement enabler (when you use mods it disables achievements, so this enables it while using mods), chirpy exterminator (I didn't like chirpy at all), of course the unlock 25 tiles mod and quite a few graphical enhancement mods.

p.s. - eagerly awaiting a slope / flatten terrain mod as well. laying some of those rail tracks can get pretty ugly. :D

Some of these have already been requested but I'll just lay it all out anyway so feel free to ignore the repeats.   :)

Transportation:

  • Flexibility to place a much shallower angles (say 5-10 degrees min.), but if so please retain the current ability to place right-angle and even obtuse angle merges - sometimes that's all that fits!
  • A little more variety for capacity levels, for example:  4-lane highways, 8-lane highways, 2-lane ramps, 1-lane one ways, etc.  Tie this in with an ability to upgrade roadways by adding lanes.
  • More cohesive transitions between varying highway sections - i.e. continuous lane markings and no crosswalks and not visible to the congestion simulation as a full-fledged intersection.  Ability to add auxiliary (accel/decel) lanes a la previous bullet.
  • A get the feeling that the traffic congestion simulation deducts too much for ramps.  Ideally, highway ramps should have a lesser impact, especially exits/diverges.  Maybe this is just my perception.
  • Ability to tunnel and/or sink roads and rail.
  • Option for earthen embankment under raised roadways, particularly the lower heights (say levels 1 or 2), unless of course the road is overpassing something in which case it'll display the current pylons in the vicinity of the subject underpass.
  • Ability to connect a side road to only one side of a divided roadway (glad someone else mentioned that - nice little bit of flexibility from SC4).
  • Ability to drag roads across other roads instead of stopping at intersection.  (Ditto for power lines and water pipes.)
  • Ability to tangent snap when connecting to a one-way/highway stub "up ahead".  Sometimes it's difficult to avoid kinks unless you delete everything and place the whole road at once.
  • Option for narrower 4-lane roadways (undivided/without medians).
  • Smaller roundabouts and mini-roundabouts.
  • Stop signs at 2-lane road intersections.
  • Some kind of route query a la SC4 Rush Hour would be awesome.  I feel like the underlying info is already there, just needs some way to display/visualize it macroscopically.

Other Gameplay:

  • More variety of and different sizes of parks and plazas, for example ball fields, pocket parks, gardens, etc.
  • Churches, libraries, museums, etc.
  • Generally more variety in sizes of civic and utility buildings.  This already exists to a degree, but more is [usually] always better.  For example, a volunteer fire station.
  • Tree brush.
  • Area bulldoze tool.
  • Small-scale terraforming tools.  Terraforming doesn't seem to be a real need, but the ability to make small changes could be beneficial.
  • Ability to re-zone without having to de-zone - allow existing structures to remain in the new zoning (grandfathered) with all new redevelopment being zone-compliant.
  • Marquee tool for creating districts.
  • Ability to vary tax rates for industry in districts.  (Res and Com have tax policies, Ind doesn't?)
  • Ability to create larger maps (larger than 9x9 full/5x5 playable) for those whose machines can handle it (or at least make it mod-able if it's a liability issue).

UI:

  • 0.1% resolution in the tax panel like SC4.  Perhaps leave the slider in 1% increments so you don't have to fight it to get the number you want, but add an ability to type in a more precise percentage.
  • Ability to slow down the animation and simulation.  It can be very difficult to query vehicles and especially pedestrians without pausing the game.  Peds especially appear to speed walk.
  • Automata collision avoidance could be improved, especially with regard to peds.
  • "Tie-breaker" right-of-way rules so that there aren't cars gridlocking intersections when departing lanes are clear.  Truck deliveries have a propensity to back up roads in industrial areas.
  • Ability to pause the simulation while "following" vehicles, pedestrians, etc., for instance so the city doesn't burn down around you as you're watching a hearse make its rounds.

This may seem like a lot, but realize it took me about 2 hours to think of and compile this list.  Not half bad.  These improvements alone would probably allow this game to supersede SC4 for individual city play and even 2-3 large tile "tiny region" play.  I'll add to the list as I think of more things/get deeper into the game.

Request: Terrain Editor a la SC4's God Mode.

The way it is now feels very unintuitive. The hills are mesas until you use the soften tool that despite that you can adjust the brush size and strength I usually find myself to erase parts of the terrain that are great until I try to spiff up a specific area. A problem I did not really remember to have in SC4.

So therefor I'd like to request a mod that makes the editor more like SC4's God Mode.

Request: A mod to make it possible to snap to grid when creating a road/rail in the middle of nowhere.

I find myself sometimes experimenting with the roads, but I find it really annoying that it's almost impossible to figure out how to build a road paralel to the city edge. Don't know but call it an OCD thing that I would like to see cured.

Request: a mod that gives you the ability to BUY all spaces without having to reach milestones while also still be able to get achievements.

That would be more in the SC4 spirit imo.

Request: U-Drive-It

Loved this. And with the First Person mod already out....means a new way to experience driving through your city and doing stuff.

Request: RCI Deman Mod

Sometimes I just want to build a sprawling metropolis, and this mod always helped in simcity 4. Just jacks the RCI demad to the fullest and it always stays there.

I would like a mod that toggles on and off getting a refund for bulldozing. It's very friendly but I like to play with more consequences most times. Thinking really hard before building and demolishing things builds character.

Sorry if this sounds stupid, I have no idea how to use the asset tool editor thing (super confusing to me). I wanted to request the dam that is in game, but with out the power generator, so its just a wall and won't push water out. Is this possible? I would like to just retain water in a area. Thanks

It would also be nice to vastly increase the number of zoneable squares from a road. How about 32? That would 256m distance if there were a maximum of 32 zoneable squares from a road and that would cover the largest of buildings.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Good day you wonderful creators!!!!

Reading througt this, my requests are fairly the same as everyone else:

- NAM for C:SL...we need those ramps..lol- Thanks to Mandelsoft, I am extremely picky with my road system..lol - also a traffic controller...the traffic flow is not very realistic in my opinion. Constant jams and having to redo a highway again and again and again is not my idea of fun..lol.

- Roundabout Plazas (with monuments, etc)

- Pedmall

- maybe more available props for the asset editor

- Repetition is a killer....maybe some residential/commercial/office packs

by the way, you guys are amazing. I have very limited knowledge when it comes to computers...it is fantastic to have a community that is willing to take the time and the effort to create wonderful items for people who cannot. You have my most sincere thank you!!!

And thank you to Paradox for listening to us!

Bigger growable lot sizes! I think this needs to happen, with the huge amount of space to build in C:SL there's no reason to scale down large buildings.

I would also LOVE to be able to make my own sub-sets of RCI, like "motorway services", "out of town retail park", "shopping mall" etc that I can then populate with appropriate buildings.

I'd love to see a central "car park" zonable tile that you could zone retail park buildings and grocery stores off of.

Also more leisure spaces like football fields and running tracks, leisure centres etc. It would be good if these could slightly improve health in the area, maybe they could work like health clinics or something like that.

It would also be cool to subdivide the big region map into more natural shapes that are not squares, maybe if they have more resources they could be smaller or more expensive.

I'd like a couple of toggle mods myself.

1. An on/off toggle for fog.

2. A show/hide toggle for district labels and icons.

Sure seems like these should have been put in and would have been simple for the devopers though. An on/off fog should be in the graphics options dialog.

Is there a way to increase the amount of initial money of a new game? I think 70,000 is way too low. I would like something like 250-500,000 to lay out my initial district. I try not to use cheats like unlimited money unless I was doing some quick dirty experiments. So I'm requesting a mod that gives us the above amount to start a city.

I just found a mod on steam that does 500k http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=408051079

and to who ever was looking for a Day/Night there is also a mod on steam, though there seems to be many things to still fix, like lights on buildings and what not, either way here http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=407264196&searchtext=

I think this might be my first post to the Simtropolis Forums, so, Hi everyone!

I'm gonna repost the request I posted on r/CitiesSkylinesModding in the hopes that I get a direct response. Please guys. I don't even know where to start.

I'd love for pausing to be a time that I can plan out my networks without having to worry about how much money I waste every time I make a mistake and have to refund something. A large part of city planning is having the resources, contractors and plans laid out, sometime a year or two in advance. I'd like the pause function to reflect that.

Initially I worried that this would be easily exploitable but if you wait until the game is unpaused to calculate costs it can be hugely damaging to a city's funds which would force a player to think out the most efficient infrastructure before they unpause to avoid massive debt.

I'd love thoughts on this as well as the best place to learn C# since, as far as I can tell that's the place to start for modding Cities: Skylines.

Additionally, does anyone know if drunkapple is doing maps for CSL? I adore his SC4 maps.

My wishlist so far after about 25 hours in. Shameless ripoff of Sabretooth78's formatting. :P

Transportation

  • American-styled re-textures for all basic transportation networks. Concrete/asphalt options for highways.
  • Additional road types of varying width: asymmetrical roads, turning lane avenues. I like to see a full bi-directional highway tool with medians and HOV lanes.
  • More bridge span options.
  • Cul-de-sacs, with zoneable land at the end.

General Gameplay

  • More highrises! Apart from a few of the reward buildings, most of them barely even scrape 20 floors, if not at all.
  • Additional policies to limit certain services to a district, or within a short radius of that district's boundary. No longer will you hearses that travel from all the way across town while the local cemetery/crematorium just sits there biding its time.
  • Snap free ploppables that can be placed pretty much anywhere. Not everything has to face a road - a statue plaza for example could be great centerpiece in a massive open park.
  • Better rotating for ploppables through hotkeys and angle snaps.
  • Micro level civic funding like in SC4. Can also extend this to district as well (IIRC, only policies apply so far).
  • Mayor mode terrain tools: Basic kit of raise/lower/level/smooth. Limited in scope but powerful enough to make decent adjustments. Would like to see stuff like surface water from SC3K make a return.
  • More indicators on the effects of the unique/reward buildings. At a glance they feel like glorified parks, with ludicrous maintenance costs.

Misc Stuff: Aesthetics and More

  • Possibly allow for more than 250K trees for systems that can handle it. Might be a game engine limitation though.
  • Build roads and avenues outside of the map limit! As it stands, once you fill up the city tiles to the brim, most roads just abruptly end at the boundary. This would allow for a nice transition from even rural areas to flat-out wilderness.
  • Shore conforming seawalls, embankments, and breakwater.
  • MMPs - signage, rocks, billboards, etc.
  • More skyboxes!

Hi All...here are a couple things I would like to see:

1 - Veterinary Clinic/Hospital - augment Health care like human clinics...the game has a dog park, now need the Vet Clinic!

2 - Pet shop/SPCA - somewhere to get your new pet.

3 - Military Base - it would be GREAT if it wasn't just one base, but 3 different ones for Air Force, Army, and Navy/Marines...maybe even a Coast Guard.

4 - Love the Burj Khalifa request!  Amazing building that I have had the pleasure of visiting and staying at the Armani Hotel located in it!

5 - Soccer, Baseball, Football fields/parks - more than just the stadium

Thanks!

LOL need some Mods can somebody post the mods here for us to Download Thank you so much can't download from steam :) Traffic Report

One of the things people (myself included) are having trouble with is the game's traffic system, which requires you to bend your city-planning to the game's mechanics. This mod doesn't fix this, but it does let you see more easily where you're going wrong, providing detailed information on things like an individual vehicle's route and the paths of vehicles going in or out of a selected building.

Dynamic Resolution

If you've got a decent PC, you might have noticed that the game looks a little...jankier than you'd be expecting. Anti-aliasing especially is pretty under-done. I'll let the mod's creator explain what this one does to address that:

For users with powerful GPUs, dynamic resolution allows downscaling from up to 5 times your native resolution. This antialiasing method called supersampling (or SSAA) while very computationally expensive gives the best results and the sharpest quality image of any AA method.

In short: it makes the game look a lot better.

Automatic Emptying

Next to bulldozing, the most annoying chore in Skylines is emptying all your dumps and cemetaries when they fill up. Automatic Emptying, which is actually made by the same guy who made the Automatic Bulldozing mod, attempts to do this for you, but be warned, it's still a little buggy (make sure you've got plenty of crematoriums and incinerators to handle it).

Pedestrian Paths

I like this one a lot, because it dramatically alters the way you can approach the game. By designating pathways that are for pedestrians only, you can not only make huge and complex parks but also entire traffic-free neighbourhoods. What does this mean? It means instead of being tied down into building a modern metropolis, you could actually go and do something unique like building a network of old-fashioned European villages...

Mod Achievement Enabler

The use of mods is supposed to disable achievements in the game. Unless you use this mod, which re-enables achievements for people using mods. Mods are the best.

What's wrong with the Steam Workshop? I know it's rather disorganized at the moment, but I haven't heard of any downloading issues.

    Just thought I'd clarify this:

We openly encourage items for CSL, and other games to be uploaded here at Simtropolis. However, in order for someone else's content to be shared here (e.g. whether it be from Steam, or any external site), it requires permission from the original author. We don't allow items to just be uploaded here, even if the intentions are good and credit is given. The key thing is to gain consent from the person who made the items. Of course, whether it be a simple mod or map, anyone is welcome to upload self-created items! :)

Our revised has more info on this, along with the other guidelines including description detail & in-game screenshots.

    Default Road height tool:

    • Press UP or DOWN to raise or lower roads at big increments

    • Hold MODIFIER key - your road is locked in place (on X-Y-coordinate) and now moving your mouse adjusts road's Z-coordinate (height)

I second this. With the actual system ramps and intersections are very ugly and have very strange angles.

I want to request another thing too. Can someone model the pre-order content and the Japanese Park? I want that Botanical Garden so hard. :bunny:
