Back to topic - needless to say, the statue looks fantastic! It's really gorgeous. However, I think the transition between lot and surrounding may become difficult the way it is modeled now. Have you considered making the lower part of the base as a custom foundation and putting the statue on a transparent lot? This way, you could really plop it on a mountain top, and you wouldn't even have to worry about foliage because you could simply plop MMP flora around the base, and even MMP footpaths towards the bottom of the stairs - just like xannepan's Burg Eltz. After all, people will use this statue in cities that are not 1:1 exact recreations of Rio de Janeiro.

Mmm, I second T Wreck's idea about isolating the plinth and statue. That way, it'll blend better in-game; I actually personally myself, have a somewhat, pet-hate for pre-rendered floral environments and bldg bases :P But that's besides the point, it'd be great to leave it to some expert LOTers to get it up to scratch :)

Technically, it shouldn't be that difficult. You simply model the plinth up to a certain depth, get rid of the BATted ground and flora, and then slice the model in two halves: one above ground, the other one below ground level. That should be it.

Once the .sc4model files are there, one can be turned into a regular prop using the Plugin Manager, the other becomes a foundation prop. Pick one of Maxis' park lots as a starting point (they have an invisible and slope-tolerant dummy building on them) and stack both props - one on top of  the other - on it in the LE so that they overlap the lot.

The latter part not even takes place in the BAT, so I could do it if you don't feel comfortable with it.

I hope the description I gave is correct, but you may want to ask one of the BATters who have been using custom foundations - for example andisart, who used them for his beautiful little homes. If in doubt, just try the method on a simple untextured cube.

I am using the same method as andisart and c.p. with foundations. That method works best since he will probably want the foundation to also light up at night. The foundation will also need skin tight LODs. Also want to render the foundation with the statue on top so it casts the shadow on the foundation since it won't cast shadows on the foundation in game.

Splendid work Reddonquixote, Christ the Redeemer looks great :)

I was quite interested in Rio architecture at some point, this city has many great buildings. But my interest was rather short-lived since I don't know Portuguese... ;)

I would love to see a zoom 5 of the trees, but from the renders you have shown they look great, the leaves does not look to saturated. :)

Here is what Elavery wrote in the first post of the thread:

If you wish to apply to join this project please let me know. We are seeking to involve many people, but please understand we also strive to maintain extremely high standards with this project. We want this to be amazing and something that energizes the community.

Which means who is interested can just contact the Rio 2016 team to be part of it doing something. If we have to call every good batter/lotter here we would have to call many of them. Is easier to them and to us if themselves show interest about it :)

I think not know Portuguese doesn't influence much. We have Elavery, Huston and Reddonquixote not speaking portuguese and they are doing and will do fantastic works on the project.

If you want to be part of it, you're welcome :)

Yeah I immediately thought the same thing as T Wrecks.

And all TCD means is that when you export the bottom half you don't hide the top half. That way things like lighting and shadows are consistent between the two.

Ideally the bottom half would also be rendered with the top half (you wouldn't hide the bottom half while rendering the top half), but that requires making tight LODs around the base of the top half (which is very doable).

It's the same thing that people do when making seawalls, or what I did with my US Bank building and Penobscot Building to add signs/seasonal lights at the top of the buildings.

I just meant that not knowing Portuguese I couldn't research the building like I usually do :) Besides, maybe it's just me but it seems that Brazilian architecture (or maybe Rio architecture) isn't very well represented online. Anyway, I would love to contribute... but I'm afraid my team would tan my hide for starting another BAT without finishing those already started :D And then there's also a question: what should I recreate? ;)

Seraf, you would be welcome to join if you wish. There is a list of possible BATs in the first post, and there are many more that could also be an option.

I second that Seraf. We have a list of buildings that will be essentials in the project, but there are tons of buildings that could be recreated in the game. Brazil now has google street view enabled and Rio de Janeiro has also the 3D Buildings included in Google Maps and Google Earth.

Rio being know worldwide as a touristic city, I think you shouldn't have many problems finding reference pictures or some info on website like Emporis.com

In any case, you are welcome in this team! We will most likely release the CJ when the games will start, which means we have 1 year and 6 months to get this done, so if you want to focus on your NYBT projects feel free to do so! Just remember that, although NYC is a nice place, this is even better :)

Even though I dearly love NYC and it's gorgeous art deco buildings, this project has really peaked my interest because there are never enough South American BATs! Rio has some great stuff in it too...

    Great work!

I think it looks wonderful! The statue and the plinth are both masterfully crafted, and the colors/textures seem good.

    The leaves are great! :P

I think they're a pretty decent match with some of girafe's MMPs or SimFox's plane tree MMP, so it should blend in nicely with the surroundings in-game as long as a well-matched MMP (like those aforementioned) is used.

    Again, great work!
