I just use the "moolah #" cheat when I need large public works built. I don't usually do this, but when funds are low, I will. I do try to keep a balanced budget, though.

yes, because I don't "play" the game, I "sandbox-creative-mode" the game. moolah, demand mods, unlocking rewards,... the full package.

I always say: the way I use sc4 is more like building a model railroad.

I just use moolah since I've lost touch with playing the game the conventional way. Plus, and I guess attributing it to my 7-8 gb plugins folder here, playing the game and simulating a city seems to strain my computer's processing power lol. It lags and often CTDs spontaneously, while when building a city, the resulting area becomes a melting pot of different architecture which becomes crazy. On the other hand, I'm very aesthetic-centric these days, and SC4's more of a canvas to me now, using it to portray interesting and as realistic as possible locations [besides some of them being sci-fi] :P

Yes, I do. I've never gotten good at managing money in the game, and it's always nice to see that you have a ton of cash in the bank.

I use the Money Tree mod:

I've been using the moolah cheat to build out farms in my current region/city journal.  The reason being that it is impossible to fill out a large tile full of agriculture in any reasonable time frame.  Nor do I think such expensive zoning for agriculture is realistic in and of itself.  I don't intend on using it much going forward, however, except perhaps in the sense that APSMS uses them.  Think of it as federal or state funding (whereas your tile's budget represents city only).

I see it as much the same as using a calculator on a school math exam.  If you don't understand the processes and algorithms, the calculator isn't going to help you anyway.  Similarly, if you don't "know how" to build a city, using cheat money isn't going to help you (and certainly won't help your enjoyment of the game).

I use the money tree, I don't play SC4 like it should be.

I rather like to build up an city the way I like than see it develop/crash because of money.

I see the game as more of a sandbox and use it to build realistic-looking cities, which means I don't really care about the economic simulation anymore. Thus I use the ExtraCheats.dll and moolah most of the time.

And that is the main reason why I don't play Simcity 2013 :)

The economic simulation was only interesting to me in 1989....I've never played simcity without the money cheat since the original game.

I use the moolah command regularly.  "Thou shalt not bind the mouth of the kine that tread the grain".

Once a city is rolling along, I often remove the extra 'moolah'.  This requires some care to make sure not to damage the treasury.

I typically do not use any money cheats.  I have never found the need to use them because I usually have no trouble making money in my cities.  There is one exception though.  I used a money park in one of my cities were I built a major airport.  Because of the cost of the airport, I could not grow the city large enough to cover the expense.  So  I used the money park to cover the expense of the airport.

I use this ordinance that gives me around 10,000 monthly income. That in itself is enough to keep my city floating, of course I have to make the city run with balance income and expenses in the most realistic way thus I rarely use money cheats if I want to immediately receive money. However during economic crises, I do use this money tree that gives me 100,000 per month. Hahahaha. Oh well, more money always mean better facilities and better cities. I would not be shock if more than 90% of the SC4 players here uses money cheat.

Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

I look at every city tile as if it were a canvas and anything I put on it is the paint.  Unfortunately, some of the paints are very costly.  Park plops cost a ton when you use thousands upon thousands of them, same for noise barrier walls for highways and pretty much any beautification plop.  As such, my cities are broke in the beginning running thousands of simoleons over budget every month leading to massive loss of funds and eventual failure of the city.  The current city tile I am working on right now is two thousand simoleons over budget at the end of every month.  I have already cheated 20 million simoleons into the budget and my have to do that a many times more before this city tile will stand on its own.  It will eventually be able to stand on its own but right now, in order to keep my canvas looking pretty, I MUST cheat.  I use the Moolah cheat.

My favorite "Bank" is still this one:

Mainly because I can just take as little as needed (and even put it back), as opposed to just pumping in 1 Trillion and kiss any budget play goodbye...

All in all I like to keep a balanced 'budget' and tinker with taxes, income from exports or business deals and so on... so I take out only money for super expensive (infrastructure-) projects.

^ Nice piece of "Let's pretend", but I prefer moolah for all this.  Doesn't need any real estate.

I played vanilla sc4 for many years before discovering sites like simtropolis. I remember having a city with several hundred thousand sims -- I had to have a fire or police station at every other intersection, not to mention schools and hospitals, to get adequate coverage. I had to replace decaying water pumps and power plants ... but the city was profitable. So now, I figure if I can run a very profitable city in vanilla mode, I don't need to prove myself, budget-wise. I use the $1 million simoleon tree cheat and just have fun, without worrying about the money part of the game.

I don't use money cheats, but...

Not sure if this counts, but I'm a real sucker for island cities/regions. This'll mean tons and tons of commuters travelling along congested stock/custom ferry routes.

I've never had a problem with a lack of money, in fact I have a problem with having way too much and getting carried away with what to spend it on. (Don't I sound pretentious there?)

When I start a new city in the region (a new island), the first ferry route usually kills all the debt and the city bounces straight into a surplus. The route's congested from all the prospering, neighbouring city connections. It feels weird knowing that the entire region is debt-free thanks to measly transit fares. :|

If you do this across more than two regions, chances are you've got Sims riding around and never finding any jobs.  Ferries are one of the worst offenders for activating the never-ending commute.

I don't use cheats when am actually playing the game but sometimes I embark on projects that are outside the scope of the game. Then I use the 'cheat' bank and pretend the money is coming from the national budget. It's quite enjoyable building a stress-free city especially for a CJ.

I use a mod that I found at CapitalSimCity which gives you 1000000000 simoleons at the start of the game. I use it because I only want to build without limits, I don't care about the economic simulation of the game.

I use the moolah cheat a lot too. I wish I knew about it when I first got this game, because I could never make money and would have to obliterate my cities over once they went broke. That eventually caused me to lose interest in the game, until I decided to install the game again a month ago. But this time, I watched some videos on YouTube about how to break even, which helped a lot, because now I can finally make a profit in my cities!!! As a result, I have for the first time made a city with more than 100,000 people in it--and I consider that to be my first true city.

Despite learning how to balance the budget, I never really have cared about the money aspect of the game since I feel it isn't realistic in its "vanilla" form (capacities and coverage radii of government services and utilities are unrealistically small, IMO), so it sets you up for failure. If you really want to create the city of your dreams, the moolah cheat is absolutely necessary. I like to think of it as a federal grant to the city, rather than a "cheat." :D
