Nice work, how big is the lot? That looks like 5x5 or 6x6 to me. :)

The Park Avignon, the Bank of Brazil and 4 Privet Drive are 99% ready (I'm just correcting some small errors), so, as they were demanding more time, I am now almost free of them. So on Friday I started a new project, build the school that I studied since childhood, and the result for now is what I will show in this short presentation.

This is the block where the school is. What is inside the red line are the houses of the priests who rule the school. I, probably, will not make these houses, I still thinking what to do there. What is in the blue circle is what I'm doing until now.

I'm trying to make the building very detailed, though the game details will be imperceptible, I can use this model to other things besides SimCity.

I rendered in zoom 5 to test and it looks horrible, got better in HD, but due to the size of the building at the end for sure will not be in HD. Someone have a tip to make it look better in zoom 5? :(

    Dear sir/madam/whoever will read this!

    This profile is now defunct.

Computer problems and issues with accessing my Imageshack account meant My SC4 CJ Scrapbook was lost and utterly irretrievable. This setback put me off SC4 for many months.

Apologies for the inconvenience and for the lost pictures.

But that SC4 itch did not go away and it had to be scratched! I have started afresh with a new account here- The British Sausage

The URS is a spiritual successor to the SC4 CJ Scrapbook.

With this update this will be the last time I visit my original Simtropolis account- admin/mods feel free to remove it or do whatever you need to do. I have no further use for the Ln X (BLANKBLANK) account.

With regards, Miles Saunders-Priem aka. Ln X aka. The British Sausage

Its just the render quality settings, don't alter them yet, but in the rendered frame window you can change the quality. Also, if you go to the actual render settings, you can manually set your own render quality and sample count.

The render settings are under the teapot with the document in front of it (hotkey f10) => renderer => quality/minimum/maximum settings. Experiment with it a bit if you want. The higher any of those numbers go, the longer the render will take, and vice versa.

So I finished the model of the main building, then comes the things that will require hard work, modeling windows and other details, you know. Now I'll start  to model the other building to connect the bridges (see the photo I posted in the previous post to the original building).

I left the replies to the comments of the last update below the pictures because my replies were too big and it was looking weird in the post.

I can't wait to use your soon-to-be uploaded content on the STEX.

And I can't wait to release them :D

Already told several times that I was almost finishing some BAT, but what happens is that I learned to do things over time, if it depended on my willingness early versions of BATs I did would have been released because I thought them good. So here the batters started giving the tips and I've been learning, I look today my early versions and I think "my God, what a rubbish BAT I did" :D
Anyway, I still have much to improve. So my BATs are slow, but some are, yes, out soon :)

Its just the render quality settings, don't alter them yet, but in the rendered frame window you can change the quality. Also, if you go to the actual render settings, you can manually set your own render quality and sample count.

Thank you really much, Darn! Now looks better indeed :D

I wonder if it only serves to preview or it will increase export quality too, did you know? :)

And you are just a God in the BATs :D I would like to know which configuration you use to the render, can you tell me? I just increased 3 in each one (quality, minimum, maximum) and it's better than before as you can see in the images I posted now.

A bit of an ugly building, but the actual BAT's looking impressive! Awesome job there so far :)

    Thank you! :)
Yes, I would call a bizarre construction, actually. But I think worth leave some information. The building is from the 1940s, at that time Oscar Niemeyer had built several works in Belo Horizonte and was already planning the capital of Brazil, Brasilia. He was simply a phenomenon, and due to be plotting several works in the city, people started asking different things from the ordinary buildings, including priests of my school, new construction began to take different models, simply following the fashion of the "different" from Niemeyer. And the idea was not necessarily do equal to those of Niemeyer buildings, with curves and etc, it was just to be different than we ever saw.
It might even be ugly, but it's still different :D

oh yes this is looking great!

    Thank you, Bastet :)

Wow, nice looking BATs are coming up! :D

    I hope so! :)

Well, 150 North Michigan in Chicago is a very beautiful building. It's on the STEX, but it's not as high a quality as I crave. Then there's NYC's One Financial Plaza building, that I tried to BAT myself earlier, but it just didn't work out that well. :P

Waoow the modelling on this one is great, a significant improvement! Are you planning to do the whole complex or just the main building? Anyways, it will definitely have its spot in a San Theodoran city ;)

As for the suggestions I have one (actually 2 but these are the same kind of buildings), it should be not so difficult to recreate and many people would probably use it in their cities:

    Cool!

Borg, 150 North Michigan you mean this one?

And I couldn't figure out what exactly you mean with One Financial Plaza building, can you post an image?

Bastet, I'm planning to do the whole complex, but when I almost finish it I will ask people here if they want it in separated pieces too.

About your suggestions, these buildings are really nice to do indeed.

So, I'll do like this, I'm planning to finish and release Central Bank and Park Avignon in the next weeks, when I do it, I'll start to make one of the buildings Borg said, and one of Bastet (or even two, because that kind of building does not look so difficult).

150 North Michigan would be cool to see. It's one of the few buildings that was designed to be not phallic, which is cool. You can probably research it better as the Smurfit-Stone building or the rename (which is really stupid) as the Cain Communications building. Also, you might get some other results as the "Vagina Building" cause that's what people call it around here, but you also might get some other results that are less desirable.

As for my render settings I try to keep them simple for BATing:

I always lower the final gathering settings a lot, down to "draft" or "low" and reduce the bounces to 2. That level of lighting detail just isn't shown in BATing so it's pointless to waste render-time on it.

The rest of the settings kinda depend on the building, but I keep my sampling on "Unified/Raytraced" because it is faster and more efficient, though it takes a little getting used to. Minimum stays close to 1. I always try and keep it as close to 1 as I can, but sometimes I go up to like 2. Maximum I keep at a power of 2, so I either do 64 or 128. And quality is really what matters the most in terms of how good it is and how long it takes. Right now, if you look at my Wacker renders, you can see those are a quality of .5 right now. I don't really need to up it too much for final render, either, because all of my details are coming through well, and there isn't a lot of noise in the details. Keep quality as low as you can without getting noisy lines.

For anti-aliasing, I like mitchell better than lanczos which is the BAT standard. I also reduce it to either 3.0 and 3.0 or 2.0 and 2.0 depending on what the renders turn out like.

Everything else is default BAT settings.

I hope that helps, render settings should be tweaked based on the building you use, though. Don't spend too much time on them, however. Also, it's better to go higher than necessary than to go lower.

You guys are aware that 150 North Michigan has already been BATted and can be right? Now this is not to say that it would be bad to have two versions, I'm just mentioning it FYI. I always thought that ardecila's BAT was a bit small in scale, although I cannot verify that by any objective measure. It just seems small compared to other BATs when you look at the height of each storey.

Like I said, I know it's already here, but it doesn't have the exact quality to match the rest of the BATs I use. That's why I asked.

Whoops, my bad. I skimmed the thread a bit quickly. Looks like we share the feeling that a new version might not hurt.

Press the icon that looks like a floppy disc in the left upper corner of the rendered frame window. It gives you the option to save the full image rather than take a screenshot.
