Do I Have A Virus Or Does ST Have New Ads?

Quick question here, did ST incorporate some new ads? Every now and then when on ST and I click on a link for something I get a popup window to some retarded advertisements, it's super annoying. I only notice this on ST but I am worried that I might have caught something and it's not actually ST at all but a stupid maleware program or something. Anyways, anyone notice this? Random links leading to popups for third party adverts?

 

PS... I actually notice this when I was NOT logged in... I just logged in to post this, and maybe that was why... Just a thought.

I never get pop-up advertisements browsing ST, and the only ads we do to our knowledge are from the sides of the sites. Check your anti-virus is on, up do date, as well as that you have Adblock Plus on your internet browser.

Tried some logged-out browsing, and I didn't get any unusual pop-ups.  You will get a "donate to Simtropolis" pop-up when you click on a category in the STEX, but that's the only pop-up I get.

yup im getting the EXACT same thing here ads it's incredibly anoying, and some times the site become COMPLETELY unusable and it is ONLY Simtropolis.

ps interestingly enough it has only started since the site game back from it's overhall and update, never had a problem before that.

I also had advertisement banners inbetween posts when I was logged out. No pop-ups, but I never browse without a popup blocker, so I couldn't tell for sure. Logged in, everything is fine.

Got at least 2 pop-ups in two browse sessions in which I was oblivious I wasn't logged in. The pop ups stop once you log in.

I'm not getting those pop-ups. Must be IP based, there is something wrong with your browser or there is something wrong with your computer. I'm using Opera and I have Kaspersky anti-virus which had proven itself to be quite useful for a time now.

I am always logged in.  I use Adblock Plus, and I never browse without being logged into the site.  I suspect any problems are because your ad-blocker is not active if you are not logged in.

I am using Firefox for my browser (though i get the same problem in Internet Explorer to), as for the ad blocker? mmm will have to check that.

I've found some communitary PCs in my university to be plagued with advertising added to pages that have no space for it (for example, the courses portal). It is effectively malware. I reccomend you to scan for malware booting your PC from an external source (as an OS loaded USB, preferably some that does not run executables natively).

Someone should get hold of the Chrome developer (Google) and ask about this.  How did this happen?  I don't get nonsense like this on firefox.

I just got this just now, it's basically blocked off the whole website except the portal and I am on Firefox. Mind you I do use an adblocker and also one that is slightly different ABP. I haven't done anything out of the unusual and I was browsing normally just yesterday.

I keep getting this "StopBadware" garbage on several threads on the site. It's really annoying and I know the pages are clean... and I'm on Firefox. This kind of stuff happens periodically though, doesn't it?

For the record, I'm running it with Adblock Plus as well as some other addons like Ghostery.

I just got this too just now, I was not logged in to the site. Once I logged in the warning page from Firefox did not come up.

The "known distributor" is probably just another way for Chrome to impress you and make you back off, which in most cases is fair enough, but I doubt simtropolis is "known" at all for that sort of stuff.

Probably a bit of code in the forum that Chrome does not like.

That's what I'm getting on my work computer using Firefox. Literally every link I click. Similar pages pop up with Chrome. Trying to access on my phone is a damn nightmare. Popup windows every 15 seconds.

Yes, it's probably something Chrome doesn't like about ST's threads. The index, omnibus, STEX, and CJs pages are all fine. Could it be something with the forum software?

it's neither a chrome nor a firefox problem ... the website has been blacklisted by multiple services.
