My parents were both born and raised in New York... although they did live in Boston for a couple years after they got married before moving back to New York (and then to Connecticut).

I've been eating garlic Buffalo wings and goldschlager for 3 days, all is not well in my stomach, typical gift from an older cousin how does he do this?

Could have warned me before hand....

Heh. Reminds me of a dumb song we used to sing in the schoolyard, to the tune of R. Kelly's "I believe I can fly"

I believe I can fly

I got shot by the FBI

All I wanted was a chicken wing

But they don't have them at Burger King*

I believe I can soar

I see me running from McDonalds' door

I got chased by a dinosaur

I'll be a criminal forevermore

*there was a dirty substitution for this line which would be sung if no teachers were in earshot

I would kill for buffalo wings, you simply cannot find ones of any decent quality in this country.  Boneless ones because I abhor getting my hands dirty.

Oh? They need to get a Duffy's there.

Oh wow, we had that one too. All the silly song games.

Yeah, there were a bunch. Most of them seemed to come from Christmas songs, probably since those are more timeless than current hits. I doubt many elementary school kids today know who R. Kelly was. :P

As an example, the most classic one of all:

    Jingle bells

    Batman smells

    Robin laid an egg

    The Batmobile broke its wheel

    and the Joker got away

I can think of a couple more but they're very violent and/or immature so I won't soil this thread with them. :P

We had that down here in Australia. It may be truly universal.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I was the only person at my comic book store who didn't watch The Simpsons.  Do you know how lonely that can be?  Boss watches it.  Coworkers watch it.  All the customers watch it.  Only me.  I was the only one.  Although I schooled this old dude who claims he knows everything about comics ever.  Doesn't know everything about the X-Men.  Wassup now, homies?

That Simpsons episode (the series debut!) no doubt contributed to its popularity, but it was around long before then.

The driver of the black vehicle was apparently drunk and entered the opposing ramp of the freeway. As a result, the vehicles crashed the moment the video terminated. Luckily, one of the drivers sustained minor cuts. The main question: how could the authorities fail to see the vehicle entering the opposing ramp to the freeway?:rage::angry:

That situation is almost impossible on Japanese highways: they are all toll, so you have to go through tollgates to get on them.  I just can't imagine it happening outside of like, some kind of movie chase scene.  Are the highways in the Philippines easier to enter?  Like, in the US you could feasibly make that mistake since the vast majority of highways are toll-less...

In France we have a lot of tolls but sometimes it just happens, a wrong-way driver comes in the opposite direction! In Germany you have a lot of accidents caused by wrong-way drivers (it happens a lot of times in only one month ! )

Wrong way driving happens rarely, since our freeways are tolled, but some interchanges , especially the one at the terminus/start of the freeway are easy to enter. The start/end of that freeway is just simply a ramp that leads to an intersection and is untolled, so the drunk driver probably turned right at the opposing ramp to the freeway...

I have been witness to an odd amount of wrong way driving recently. There is a street in my neighborhood called Center Avenue that serpentines its way through the neighborhood and used to be the line for an old trolley. Now that the trolley is gone the street is divided down the middle (mostly on the east side of the neighborhood). In the past 2 weeks I've seen 3 separate cars driving down the wrong side. One got pulled over by the cops. I admit it can be confusing for people not familiar with the area.

1551: Our tollways are automatic gantries here. None of that manual collection stuff.

Damn I wish I had a dash cam. Saw someone back into another at the supermarket the other day and nearly had an incident with the unsecured load a couple of weeks on Peninsula Link...

    Drivers are crazy, yo.

No dashcam? Do what I do:

    iQNWRUm.jpg

Mounting a real camera/camcorder produces much better quality videos. Dashcams are crap for footage, and are extremely bumpy if suction cup mounted. But they still are good for insurance purposes.

On the rare occasion that I want to film a drive through somewhere, I just hold my camera on top of the steering wheel. Works well enough, only real issue is that the video will tilt as you go around a curve. But in some cases that can actually be a feature.

1554. I remember that Batman Christmas song at school. I never sung it though, even though  was in the choir. We sung the national anthem though.

I did in first and second grade. Nowadays, in High School, people ask me stuff like "why are you so mature" and "why don't you talk"

Every morning all through primary school we would stand up and recite the pledge of allegiance in the morning, and that would be accompanied by us either singing to one of a few patriotic songs or listening to one played over the loudspeaker.

As a kid you don't question it and don't notice the obvious indoctrination. :P

Although after 13 years one does tire of hearing "I pledge allegiance, to the flag..."

I did notice on my travels that the US is much more... I'm going to go with "unabashedly patriotic" to be on the safe side, than a lot of other countries.

We only require the Oath of Allegiance (or Affirmation if preferred) for certain public officials. I'm pretty sure I learned about its existence in 3rd grade, never had to say it though, certainly not daily. My schools (primary school and high school), much like most of the other ones, had one flag on a flagpole and that was it. None in classrooms. There was actually some controversy a while back about schools being required to fly the flag to receive full funding.
