    1410.

Never been to Asia. Hong Kong does look fascinating, but I doubt I would ever visit... language, culture, and food would all be too strange for me to be anywhere near comfortable with being there. And it's a looong plane ride besides.

Hong Kong was owned by the British for a long time, English is spoken there.

Although with the UK and the US being "two countries separated by a common language", that might still be an issue. :P

1411:Its mainly ethnic Chinese, with only about 3.5% speaking English as a first language and another 35% speaking it at all.

    Happy Birthday to me!

    --Ocram

Ocram's Razor: Though "more things shouldn't be used than are necessary," they're just too fun to pass up! Expect many verbose arguments from me. I will try to write abstracts before or short summaries after from now on.

    Words to live by:
"Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good. For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit; to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit... But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually..." 1 Corinthians 4-11

"Do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Matthew 6:34
"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you." Matthew 7:1-3

    Happy birthday, Ocram.

    *cries even more*

I have been in almost every county in NJ and only in Delaware, Philadelphia, and Mongtomery in PA, driven through most in Jersey, only in Manhattan in NY, all in Delware (only 3), anything along the highway to Baltimore and Washington, Arlington, and Orlando and San Diego counties. And along the highway down to Mrytle Beach, SC.

    *cries because I wish I could travel but can't, someone get Saturn's big nose a tissue* :( :( :( :( :( :(

I haven't left the state of PA since February. My family is headed to SC next week and I am welcome to join them but I can't afford a vacation right now. Gah!

Happy birthday, Ocram.  I still think of you as ilikeseattle and for that matter, I still think of Meg as Skigeek.

Y'know Saturn, when I was your age my travels were similarly limited. And the same can probably be said for a lot of teens since traveling as a family is difficult. Because of this, vacations are limited in scope and in frequency. But when you get a little older and you have your own paycheck and your own car (or the ability to rent or borrow one), you will find that all of a sudden you will have a lot more freedom to travel places should you desire to do so.

    Also, yes, happy birthday Ocram!

1420: Australia doesn't have official "counties", but we do have statistical divisions, and I've mapped my travels based on that.

Red representing where I live and blue of course, the regions I have visited. Quite well travelled, I must say despite not touching a state and a territory.

A question about my very limited travels, what's the county directly north of San Diego? Where the towns of Lajoya and Encinitis are?

Now why is the map sliced up like that... too boring to draw it to scale?

1423: I could only find the individual states online, and unfortunately they were not to scale. New South Wales and South Australia are in proportion, whereas Tasmania and Victoria are overscaled, and Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland are underscaled.

I would like to do a version of a map like that of my travels here in Japan, but I honestly am not sure how I would divide them up.  Probably by "city" I suppose.  I should look into that.  My map of the US would include just about every state east of the Mississippi plus Missouri (Cardinals game) and Louisiana (Mardis Gras).  Zip codes?  That's too much work for me, man.

Orange County is north of San Diego County but those places are still in San Diego County. :thumb:

1245: Why not prefectures? You could fit the entire of Japan into one of those divisions on my map :P

I have updated my NUTS 2-map (European subdivision for statistics) to include my coming trip to Berlin. Not as detailed as Duke's country-level map, but oh.

Red represents what I visited, the pink-ish color is what I've seen through the window of the car or the train, so the parts I've physically been to, but that I did not really visit. As you can see, I have left the European Union in three places: Switzerland, Albania and (you can't see this one) the Vatican. (The map isn't up to date since Croatia joined the EU some time ago.)

NUTS-3 regions in Europe are more analogous to US counties than NUTS-2 regions, but it is perfectly understandable if someone who is not a meticulous roadgeek isn't going to pay enough attention or put in enough effort to accurately track that. :)

Despite my limited travels, I wish to make a map like that. How can I?

Rather than continue to cry about my limited travels, I will say that I caught a foul ball at the Phillies game today. Today is a happy day for me.

1431: Good on you! I've always wanted to catch a ball, let alone see an MLB game.

I would say just save the image Duke posted and fill it in yourself.

Yeah, when I saw Duke's county map I went and made one for myself, although it's not entirely accurate. Maps are fun.

It's easy enough to fill in yourself. Alternatively, you can create an account here:

    http://www.mob-rule.com/counties/

Benefit to doing that is it automatically counts stats for you and you can see how you stack up against others!

If I made that, there would be abig line to South Carolina down where I-95 is. Convenient, considering it's Florida to Maine.

As for what I caught, it was off the bat of Rockies Dexter Fowler (get it, Fowler fouled it) and it has Bud Selig's signature.

My tendency to buy tickets to seats in places where balls are not likely to go contributes to me never having caught one. If I did I'd probably find a kid nearby to give it to - that's usually customary when an adult catches a foul ball.

So do I, but my dad works for a company that sponsors the Phillies, so we got int eh Hall of Fame club, which has stuff like Roy Halladay's perfect game ball, and Mike Schmidt and Ryan Howard's bats. It's all cool, really. But that's close to the field, so it came right to me. Michael Young hit one sky high that came near me.

But truth be told I do get nervous at times like that. I worry compulsively about ridiculous things, and that's one of those thing I worry too much about. Yeah, I have OCD.

My uncle caught a foul ball at the Vet (VeteransStadium, home of Phillies 1971-2003 and he saw a kid with a rod in his arm and gave him the ball.

I got a foul ball once. 1990 NL championship series against Cincinnati. Eric Davis hit it into the Pirate bullpen and a relief pitcher threw it up to me. Not nearly as cool as catching one yourself though.

So I got robbed today. Very upsetting. All they took was cash and there was no sign of forced entry. Either the lock was picked or they had a key leading me to believe it was the guy who lived here before me. I know he is shady because a constable came here looking for him a couple months back. The police told me it was likely someone I know. It's not a good feeling knowing someone was in my home while I was at work. It's weird though because my iPod was right there on my desk. Why only take the cash?

Damn 1990? Wasn't even born yet,

Maybe cause iPods have degraded in value over the years, at least he didn't take any weapons or credit cards, that could be a real mess.

Identity theft and stolen weapons used in crimes are probably the worst case scenarios in a robbery.

    You will report it right?

Maybe it was a smart thief looking for a quick fix that wouldn't leave an electronic trail?  Apple stuff uploads pics and things directly to the web, maybe the thief knew that and wanted to avoid being caught that way.
