Yeah, cash is untraceable, and it's also the easiest thing to use if you're looking to buy drugs or something. Other stuff you have to go through the effort of selling and you have to know someone who will buy it without asking questions.

It is still odd though, since these days electronic devices are more frequently a target of thieves than wallets are. They're usually easier to steal, considering how often people have their phone or mp3 player out playing with it. No need to hold someone up or pick their pockets, just snatch and run! Besides, the resale value for something like an iPhone is a lot more than the average contents of someone's wallet, especially when you consider that a lot of people these days pay for everything with credit or debit and just aren't in the habit of carrying cash anymore. And yeah, there's the cards, but you in most cases can't use a debit card without knowing the PIN, and stolen credit cards tend to get cancelled and rendered useless very quickly. And of course, likely the most important fact in this particular case: drug dealers only accept cash.

I'd assume that when you exit a lease agreement you would surrender your key back to the landlord. Of course, you can make copies, so that doesn't deny you future access to your former apartment. Based on the stray mail I've received, the previous occupant of my apartment was some woman with a very Italian last name. And since I know she wasn't here for long and it was just her I'm guessing she was young. How do I know she wasn't here very long? Well, I've also gotten stray mail for two occupants ago: some dude and his wife with a very middle eastern sounding last name. One piece of mail I got for them was from US immigration services.

Larks, I reported it last night. The police took my statement and told me it was likely someone I know but I told them about the former tenant and they wrote down his name.

The only other things I noticed were the following; I always pull my shower curtain all the way over and it was about six inches from the wall. Ok, maybe my cat did that. Last week I came home and the whole darn curtain and rod had come down on the floor. That was most certainly my cat but yesterday I think it was a person. Also, I have the power cords to my tv and cable box battened down really well. They go under the carpet along the wall and into my kitchen where they are taped down against the wall and the tape was pulled up a bit on the end before the cords arrive at the outlet. Again, that could have been my cat and the fact is, the tv could have been unplugged back at the power strip. Did they start pulling up the cord and say screw it? Were they too stupid to realize they didn't even have to go to that trouble? if they were on foot they wouldn't want to walk around town with a tv under their arm.

This guy who used to live here is one of those prescription pain killer poppers. I know this through the grapevine because I have friends who know him and I know his name because of when the constable came looking for him. He's my prime suspect. Regardless, I can't prove it and I won't see that money come back to me.

The fact remains that the money was in a drawer yesterday morning. I know this because I took ten bucks from the stash (rainy day fund) to use as a tip when I got my haircut yesterday. I am absolutely positive the money was there at 8:45am and then gone last night at 10. I got home about 6 but took a while to notice. I am staying home from work today so I can ask my neighbors if they saw/heard anything and also because I'm afraid to leave. What if they come back? It's a very unsettling feeling that I've never experienced before. I'm also calling my landlord here in a bit. I want deadbolts and new locks and of he won't install them, I will. It took him 8 months to fix my leaky ceiling and I'm not waiting that long! Anyway, have good day, guys! I hope it's better than mine!

Cool. I think it's great that simtrop members meet up in real life. I also wish I could poke around Melbourne. I've never been there but when I lived in Sydney I became very much aware of the rivalry between the two cities, and if Melbourne is worthy of being in contention with Sydney, it surely must be a great city.

Interestingly enough, tonight I was conversing with a friend who brought up Brisbane. He pronounced it as briz-bane, at which point I felt obligated to inform him that Australians pronounce the name of that city as briz-bin. Better to know than not to, am I right? I wonder if there are any fellow simtropolitans from my home city of Pittsburgh. I don't think are many, if any at all.

Time to set a trap!

Ever heard of the ghetto car alarm? If your landlord has missing limbs next time you see him then you know he is responsible, likely the avenue I'd take.

    Sweet. Do anything fun?

Just a general meetup in the city, nothing in particular in mind. Somehow nearly got caught up in a protest :P

I don't have any friends, so I don't know any Simtrop users in real life. It would be nice, though...

I have a friend who's lived in the Pittsburgh area his whole life. And another friend who's from Miami, went to college in Pittsburgh, and now lives in New York (and wants to move to San Francisco next). Neither of these people are on Simtropolis, though. :P

I have a cousin who was a member here years back... until he got himself banned. :whatevs: .

I haven't met any Simtropolites. Well, none that are particularly active. Canberra's not really a big place. Sydney meetups might be doable for me, Melbourne is a bit far away though.

    I pronounce it as Briz-bin or Briz-bun.

Don't forget to use your clearly fake Australian accent in the loudest voice possible.  Australian people LOVE it when you do that.

I've noticed my accent changes depending on where I am and who I'm talking to. It gets broader in rural areas and when talking to people with broad Australian accents, although not to great degrees.

And for the record, the capitals are pronounced as follows:

    Brizbin

    Sidknee

    Melbin

    Hoebaht

    Cambra

    Adehlaid

    Perf

    Dahwin

All of which are in Shtraya.

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

I wish I had some friends. But knowing someone else on Simtropolis would be awkward for me. Not o ky do I have Social Anxiety Disorder, but I just don't work well online with the few people I know.

Agreed. I was very shy when I was younger but I came out of my shell eventually. I'm quite the social butterfly these days but I still need my "me-time."

When you have it as a disorder like Social Anxiety Disorder it's more prevelant than other things along those lines.

It's anxiety you get from social situations.

    ..duh.

But seriously... maybe someone else can explain it better then me, I'll try my best though. I don't think I really get social anxiety, but I know anxiety comes at me from a bunch of other places. Anyway, it's kinda like.. well do you know anxiety? I can't really describe it... like when something stresses you out and you start freaking out and can't control it... is probably the best way I can say it. Basically certain social situations can cause someone to lose it, to cause awkwardness and stress to the point that the person can't handle it and needs to leave. Like my friend once who left a concert and walked by himself back to the L station. I offered to go too, but... I digress.

If any of that made sense, let me know. I'm the best at stories.

Oh, most certainly. But I am a mind over matter type of person. While I recognize and respect certain truths, whether it be by logic or experience, I still to prefer the idea that my attitude has an effect on my life. I surely could have been prescribed glasses over the years, but I refused at every attempt. I also like to think that just because a large portion of people have a similar affliction, doesn't mean that said affliction can't be overcome without a particular solution for each sufferer. Because of that, I scoff at the medical community's response to such things. The companies that sell prescription drugs have thousands of people believing they have a disease that only exits by its initial acknowledgement.

That is not to say that social anxiety is such a disease, because I truly believe it is legitimate after having dealt with it myself. When I was younger, I was horrified of making friends. Around the time I was in 7th grade, I had lost touch or been deemed too uncool by most of my previous friends, and the ones I kept were in a different set of classrooms since we moved to a new school after elementary.

It took some time but after a few months I made new friends. They are people I still speak with and spend time with today.

I was fortunate. My graduating class in high school was 601. Lots of people. You may be in a smaller environment, but regardless, you are a part of the same world that we all are. You just have to move through it. Once you do, you will meet plenty of good friends. Trust me. That is guaranteed as long as you reach out a bit on your own. My only advice is to be yourself. Good hearted people seem to have a way of finding each other.

You seem like an extrovert to me. I'm not. I'm very introverted. I like to avoid the whole social scene, which is good, as I don't what to get caught up in high school drama.

Yeah, high school drama sucks. But worry not - the less popular of a person you are in high school, the more of an interesting and successful person you'll be later in life. As Bill Gates said, "Be nice to nerds. You'll probably end up working for one someday."

But back to High School drama; it really does suck.  That, and I simply don't give a damn about who's dating who or whatever the heck else it's all about.  That kind of contributes to its name as drama

It is kind of amazing, though. I graduated from high school in 2005. And who I am today is very different from who I was ten years ago. I've grown. A lot. And I don't mean physically! At 15 I never imagined myself being at 25 where I actually am.

Point is, high school sucks for a lot of people. But who you are in high school does not need to define who you will be in the future. That... is up to you.

HS didn't really suck for me, I used to piss off the teachers a lot but I used to have a great time between suspensions and was one of the most respected because of that.
