Yeah, HD remakes are good, but speaking of Nitnendo... WHY WON'T THEY MAKE MAJORA's MASK HD!!!!!!!!???????????????!!

Majora's Mask is one of my favorite games ever, but they want nothing to do with it. Why? I've heard because it's so dark, but there are darker games rereleased. (Even though it's probably one oft he darkest games ever).

Sorry, just had to rant on that.

Had a Saturn growing up and a passed down 3do.

Why would anyone want to go and buy something that old now?

To clarify an important point here: the stores I am posting pictures of are not actually selling games for the consoles on the sign. The signs are just old and have never been updated. The logos on them reflect the consoles that were current at the time the sign was installed (the first sign is probably from 1999 or 2000, the second from 1996 or 97).

Even still, there is a perfectly good reason to buy a game console that's that old: to play the games for it! Old video games are cool. Nintendo sells lots of them for download on Wii Virtual Console for a reason: there is a market. If you don't want your old consoles anymore there are plenty of people who will be more than willing to buy them from you. :D

Nintendo has gone wack in their consoles since the gamecube, They lost touch with what people want, Old games look horrible on the new TVs but sometimes they make HD remakes that make them better.

I got a bunch of old N64 games in my closet, if you want them let me know, been trying to get rid of them for awhile now.

Besides it just takes up room, PS4 is gonna be here soon and I've been busy dumping my PS3 collection.

1680: I'd buy them, but you know, region lock. What are they if I may ask?

N64 games are region locked? They had that technology back then?

I'm still waiting on the first true HD Zelda game. Wind Waker is cartoony and doesn't cut it for me.

Maybe when that comes out I'll get a Wii U.

1686

You didn't fight Ganondorf, did you? It's awesome in every way. I've beaten Wind Waker (on GameCube, obviously), and the graphics add t the experience, it doesn't effect the gameplay at all. Better than that, games like said Wind Waker, Okami, and No More Heroes have stylized graphics that never age. Back as far as Atari 2600, they've tried to be as realistic as possible. But now it's all aged. Stylized graphics don't age, no matter how old it is.

Nintendo has gone wack in their consoles since the gamecube, They lost touch with what people want,

Worldwide, Nintendo has sold 100 million Wiis. PS3 and Xbox 360 have only sold just shy of 80 million each. So, clearly that statement is false.

Now, if you replace "people" with "hardcore gamers", then you have a true statement. The Wii's hardware is not nearly as powerful as its competitors', and it is a bit more gimmicky in nature. But it has sold very well to casual gamers and, thanks to things like WiiFit, even to people who typically would not play video games at all. So from a business perspective it was very successful.

Of course, Wii U has flopped by comparison, and it's not difficult to understand why. You could sell a game console to casual gamers in 2006. But in 2013 you cannot because in 2013 everyone has smartphones and tablets, and people who are casual gamers just play games on those. Going forward, consoles will only sell to people who are moderate to serious about gaming, and you need to design them accordingly if you want them to be successful.

Old games look horrible on the new TVs but sometimes they make HD remakes that make them better.

HD remakes ruin the original spirit of the game. Classic Mario in HD is not classic Mario. Also, I disagree with the assessment that they look horrible on new TVs. The problem you're having is that with a huge screen you see the individual pixels a lot more. Which doesn't look bad, it just looks... pixelly (as it's supposed to!). Of course, a smaller screen is still better suited to older games since it matches the sizes of TVs people had at the time.

The sad thing is, Duck Hunt (or any game using the NES light gun) does not work at all with a modern flatscreen TV. The programming behind the light gun takes advantage of a couple phenomena particular to CRTs (which every TV at the time was), so it requires a CRT screen in order to work.

N64 games are region locked? They had that technology back then?

NES, SNES, and N64 games are all region locked... physically, not digitally. American game cartridges are shaped slightly differently than Australian game cartridges and won't quite fit into the slot on an Australian console.

You can get around this by using an adapter (such as a Gameshark/Game Genie), or by carving a bit of plastic out of the console case so the foreign cartridge fits. The software itself is not region locked, it's just a question of getting one to fit into the other.

1688: Partly. That's true for Japanese and American games, but Europe/Australia use different television signals, so the framerate is affected.

I don't get the reasoning behind region locking things, whether its physically or digitally.  Except where the technology necessitates it like the different framerate thing above I simple do not understand.

Ah ok, So at one point I had close to almost every N64 game since early 2000s gamestop and other stores were selling out their inventory at $10 to $20 a game, I have close to 40 left after slowly trading.

Most of which are racing, top gear, rush, crusin the world, rayman, mario, army men series, this game where you play as a glove, harvest moon, golf, banjo series, pool and of course the best game ever goldeneye64.

For Saturn I got virtual cop, virtual fighter, sega rally, magic carpet some game called panza dragon never opened and clockward knight along with all the baseball games including Frank Thomas Big Hurt baseball.

That explains so much! I always wondered why the light gun for Virtual Cop didn't work anymore on my new TV, Do they even make CRT anymore?

I don't get the reasoning behind region locking things, whether its physically or digitally.  Except where the technology necessitates it like the different framerate thing above I simple do not understand.

There are two reasons why. One is that the laws and regulations affecting how electronic devices operate vary a bit across the world. Often it is easier to design a few slightly different versions of the device than to design one which meets the requirements of every region.

Laws affecting the content of video games, movies, etc. also confuddle things. In many countries a video game which has not been rated by that country's government is not legal for sale there. Duke Nukem 3D, one of the most controversial games of the 90s, was available as written in the US but was infamously partly censored or outright banned in many other countries due to its extreme depictions of violence, sex, and profanity.

Often, though, it's more a question of that the device manufacturers sell things for different prices in different regions. A video game costs twice as much in Australia as it does in the US. This business model is compromised if Australians can just order games online from other countries.

1692: You have no idea how much that ticks us off. It's actually cheaper to fly to the US, purchase the entire Adobe creative suite than it is to buy it here.

In other news, it's been a long day. Being half an hour late for work didn't help either.

This actually has an effect in Final Fantasy IX: to get Excalibur II, the best weapon in the game, you need to reach Memoria in under 12 hours. The framerate differences makes this all but impossible on PAL systems (it was thought to be impossible until recently).

To search for the ideal city today is useless. For all cities are different. Each one has its own spirit, its own problems, and its own pattern of life. As long as the city lives, these aspects continue to change. Thus to look for the ideal city is not only a waste of time but may be seriously detrimental. In fact, the concept is obsolete; there is no such thing.

Link the protagonist from Legend of Zelda.

Heh, I just linked to a page about Link with the word link. Yo dawg I heard you like links? :P

And yeah, Halloween is a very American thing. In most other countries it's either not celebrated by too many people or outright nonexistent. I remember one year my cousin from Italy was visiting during Halloween, and it was the first time he'd ever experienced it. Nobody celebrates it in Italy.

Didn't know that. I was never really a Legend of Zelda person :P Never played it before (and I don't really plan to lol).

And on another note, we've actually never had anyone walk up our door to 'trick or treat'. New Zealand isn't really big on Halloween, but there is the occassional party :P It's so quiet in my town during october 31st...soooo quiet....quiet. :3

I would never play Wind Waker, HD or otherwise. The cartoony nature doesn't suit that type of game IMO. I'd prefer for it to be realistic and gritty. Twilight Princess and Ocarina of Time were the only ones that got this right. Skyward Sword has an artistic effect I do not like.

In the Wii U reveal, I recall seeing footage of a realistic Zelda with Link fighting a Giant spider. I want that, not a remake.

I'd like another game with that style, but SS had problems, and the graphics aren't one of them. Majora's Mask falls in the category with OOT and TP.

There is currently nothing convincing me to get a PS4/XB1. Normally they have great features or launch titles.... This time around nothing.

GTA V is the first game I've bought for my PS3 since GTA IV in 2008. By that logic, GTA V should keep me entertained until 2018 :P
