Hmm, here's something interesting. It's not entrirely Mass Effect related alone, but it's here anyway. Wonder what this is supposed to be for? :P

Btw, this building is explicitly under construction, never to be completed (in BAT form anyway). It's an ugly pencil tower, something that may flood crowded city skylines in the future.

It's still quite a bit a way from finished. I'm gonna try make it look a little more forward in time with some extra additions, but so far, here's a the fugly disaster that I have dubbed

the Brooklyn 501 (no real reason, just thought that it's going to be in Brooklyn and 501 was the first number that I thought of).

It's a 2x2 building construction BAT to repeat with lots of floors high. It's wow quality. Wow I need to go to sleep now. lksauj;j jfiau a; juae

ME3 Vancouver Hi-Rise BATs (No longer strictly Residential). So far, what I've got is...well...3 BATs. Slow progress since my mind's lost on what designs to use. I need to give them a rather futuristic twist but I'm stumped on how to do that. My capabilities are still limited and, yeah...

    72a32e1caf.pnga52ad117c4.pngf24c34a033.png

I don't really have the motivation to change the windows, cause honestly, the scale of this mini-project is a little big, and I need to get through quite a few building, just so I can reconstruct a future ver. of Vancouver for a mere 2-3 pictures. :O

Btw, here's a little insight on my BATing processes:

The buildings are amazing, very beautiful indeed! An advantage of SketchUp is that there are some very useful plugins that greatly facilitate some things.

The roof of the third one is even worse. :P

But seriously, I wouldn't mind an "un-futurified" version. :) These are too good to pass.

Futuristic buildings always seem to be shiny. Possibly change the concrete texture to something more metallic looking. I like them as is though.

Go to the future cities concept art thread and view all the pages. You wouldn't regret it. Also, you might mant to add holographic billboards to the sides or roof.

I've gotta few of my own references from a game trailer, but I've taken on board some of the thread's image ideas :P

The roof of the left version still looks plane. Couldn't you do the same to it like you did to the second one? D:

The roof's actually already been fixed a bit. Check the previous page again. You mentioned last that it had some areas that looked untextured :P

    Thanks everyone else :)

Another random Vancouver BAT. Trying to be futuristic, but the style I'm looking at in the ME3 trailer is a blend of present and future styles. I don't really know how this is all gonna work. This BAT took about 4 different versions before I could get a final design. It still needs a topper and I know just how to do it. The know-how to do it exactly is still a little fuzzy :P

Did I mention that it's quite a large BAT? This is it at zoom 4. Keep in mind that this hasn't even been scaled to 133% yet.

    dda5ce8f65.png

Btw, does anyone have tips on how to make seawalls? I just failed so badly: (Btw, what's the cheat to remove water? Can't seem to find it on the net anymore :P)

    ea245b27ae.jpg

    EDIT, UPDATE:

That's topper isn't actually gonna be like that. I'm removing that entire top section and replacing it with a different design (An octagonal office section). And yes, there's a random protrusion on the higher portion of the tower. That also won't be there :P

    68b92ce286.png360cf990c6.png

This is definitely a lot taller than I planned this tower to be. Though I have to admit, the future's lookin' good :P

Those towers are really great to look at.The Vancouver Towers are really well detailed. The one who owns the penthouse even has hir/her own forest on the balcony :D

I think those Vancouver Towers already look pretty futuristic.I mean futuristic is relative....Even the Bungalows made in the 50s were once futuristic and modern...:D

And you are right, using shiny metal instead of concrete makes one building really futuristic.Another thing would be lights...and i don`t mean those kitschy lightings on Las Vegas Casinos or the regular lights inside or outside a building.

How about supporting the shape of the building with light like an enlighted outline that copies the shape of the building.Maybe in a calm blue or green (or even amber...) but never in red.Red lights on buildings always look evil :D

If you do end up releasing a futuristic (metallic?) version, I'd also love to see you release a version that's similar to how they are now (unfuturized). If the unfuturistic ones were just given typical nightlights (windows and basic stuff like that), we could have some really versatile modern towers for our cities!

Looking great though. Love the shapes and the overall massiveness of them!

Huston, your work is great. There definitely need to be a few improvements. I'll tell you.

1 -Make the individual windows with variable amounts of transparnecy. Don't make all the windows have the same transparency settings. That's so 20th century! So you see here, in the future, windows are gonna be made out of what's called a "smart glass". It's not really glass at all, but a transparent nanotech material made with microscopic chips or sensors inserted in it. The individual chips are so small that you can't see them without a microscope. Yet they perform an important function. In the future, there would be a little slider on the wall, next to the window. By moving the slider all the way up to one side, a message is sent wirelessly (at roughly the speed of light) from the slider into the chips, that makes the chips turn to one side, and the glass becomes completely opaque. By moving the slider to the opposite side, the window becomes completely transparent , so transparent in fact, that you would be fooled into thinking that there's no window at all. It would look like just a gaping hole in the wall. And of cource, you could set the slider to a varying degree of tansparency between the two extreemes. All performed by tiny nanochips that you can't see with the naked eye.

    medium_mit-smart-glass.jpg

    switchable-smart-glass.jpg

    Smart-Glass4.jpg

2 -You need to put some futuristic furniture behind the windows! Not just any furniture. Especially the top section, I can clearly see that the rooms are vacant. You need to put some life into them.

I'll help you with that. Send me a message if you are interested.
