Was lurking in here, like I always do, and noticed the bold issue. So I've fixed it.

While I'm here I may as well say how impressed I always am with your work! Those canals are beautiful. And the trees are stunning. If you have time you should post a small tutorial on how you set them up in tree[d], there are so many options, would be great to see how you've done them.

I was kind of hoping that, while functional landmarks aren't my thing (Static Landmarks FTW), perhaps growable versions would be released, since there is a strong tendency for your buildings to get buried in my landmarks menu. I can always make the growable LOT myself (though I have no practice doing so), but it's much nicer to see where your stuff wants to grow, since, for me anyway, it's more fun.

Of course, don't let that stop you sharing your work with us. I'm more than happy to make the extra effort to plop them in my cities, but when they can grow as well, well...it's like a fun little bonus (like every time one of SimFox's buildings pop up--ooh shiny new unexpected high quality BAT right in my CBD!)

Nice to see that the Q1 is slowly being rendered. Currently wondering where it's going to fit into my city...

Gorgeous creation Red.

Oh forgot great new guys! Australia 108 has been approved! , the new design is now 312m and 90 floors woohoo! :ohyes:

Here's hoping they redesign 555 Collins as well and get that baby approved to.

140 William Street looks amazing! I'm eagerly waiting for all those ready to upload BATS, got some spots ready for my latest city. :P

@Xander

Aus 108 was always approved since it was 388m, itwas redesigned due to flight paths. :P

555 collins is more of a concept than a real proposal, and it wont get approved anyway at that height for overshadowing the Yarra. :P

Yet another BAT that already looks stunning, you sure are very fast!

@CM and Xander: I hope the redesign won't just be a shrunk version of the original proposal.. Lately there have been many very nice looking towers approved for the city and even pencil towers are starting to appear!

Yea im afraid so there are some small minor changes to the last Australia 108 but overall it is pretty much the same just smaller.

Forgive me i meant approved for construction :) after being shelved for "its inability to meet a "hybrid of requirements" from authorities such as VicRoads and CASA - the latter of which stated that there was "no flexibility" to approve a building that breached height restrictions".

Does anyone else think this building is simply FUGLY?.

Well I don't think its "FUGLY" but it could be worked on IMO... I don't love it, I don't hate it. :P

If they removed all the purple on it, and then extended the actual roof height to the top of the spire it would look really nice. Purple doesn't look good on buildings imo.

There are some high quality buildings being built, approved and proposed for Melbourne atm, and I hope it will continue! :D

I'm really excited about your latest stuff. I am doubly glad I visited Melbourne last year now. I am partial to Princes Bridge, BTW :)

That's the basic tutorial for making bridges. A more advanced one can be found on the LEX, but I don't know how much more advanced it is as I've never read it. You'll be most interested in the general modelling specifications and the modding process. The NAM Team will have to do some finalisation so it fits into the IID Schemes though.

Bridges can get much more intricate than how it's done in that tutorial though, RULed bridges are incredibly flexible and a relatively simple concept to grasp, you can do almost anything you want.

Thanks for nice comments everyone :)

Yeah, have to agree Xander.. its an ugly building but will make an interesting addition to the skyline.

Also agree with _A (aka Mystic :P ) the purple glass on those new Docklands buildings atm looks really cool. Ask me again in a few years you might get a different answer, but atm it looks great :)

Jdenm8... thanks for posting that, I'll have a read but just from the few things you've written there it already sounds very complicated :P

fyi - I figure I have no more special modding abilities than anyone else, probably less in fact, definitely less than zero interest :P , so going forward I will only be releasing my BATs as non-functional landmarks  :)  Assuming I get over my STEX-phobia they might be up this weekend :thumb:

It's fairly easy to transform nonfunctional landmarks into functional RCI in PIM-X.

If you are talking about making these great river pieces non-functional though...that would probably stop me from using them.  I have no use or room for non-functional bridges/roads/rails.

Yeah, we certainly love these quick wins since we haven't seen your new BATs for a few months. We miss them so much! Still, I sincerely wish Southern Cross can be put onto schedule since this building is so great. Besides, I think we haven't seen a modern railway station for years! :meh:

Signed up specifically to say that this is a wonderful project and I follow it with keen interest. Everything so far looks excellent.

Any chance you've considered the University of Melbourne? It's big, I certainly appreciate that!

As an aside - I live in a low low impossibly low priority building on Flinders Lane, behind 333 Collins. It's nice to see my block getting some love!

Also note that you have placed the Manchester Unity building on Elizabeth / Collins instead of Swanston / Collins :)

    Ahhhhh!! nooooo!! whyyyyy!??

I don't like using non-functional landmarks.  I'd prefer BATs to be growable at a minimum (as long as it doesn't exceed Stage 8 as I don't use CAM)... but if not that then at least a functional version (I just don't like how it messes up the demand in the game however).  Looks like I'm going to have to learn PIM-X.  People say it's easy but I'm trying to learn it now and I just want to rip my hair out...

EDIT:  OK so now I'm starting to get the hang of it... sort of.

Red, does this mean Southern Cross and Melbourne Central won't work as a functional railway station when it's made?

I agree with Xander Dax. Although I prefer landmark lots to functional lots, I'm still willing to offer any help about making functional lots if needed. There must be lots of forum members who have the same mind too. :golly:

I also agree with Xander.  That would be great weixc812 if you could if Red gives you permission.

Your BATs are so high quality, they deserve only the best

Amazing job on the roof texture by the way! How did you make it?

Thanks for nice comments as always :)

Gazzyd - welcome neighbour!, I'm literally just on the other side of the river :D . I'm flattered you would join just to tell me you liked my work. This is actually the block just behind 333 Collins Street, is it one of these?

Its a strange block, the middle 2 buildings are weirdly over-scaled in RL. Peoples' heads only come up to the bottom of the street windows, and the arches are like 3 times peoples' heights. Makes the 1st building look like a miniature...!

    8apv.jpg

Evan, firstly, I'm only really taking about RCI. Civic Buildings will be made as civic buildings. Why RCI? - Ploppable RCIs are clumsy and clunky to make. Residentials don't even work. Growables require testing, I don't have a testing ground so its pot luck if it works. And everyone wants something different.

It seems like an odd evolution of BATing that the person who makes the model is somehow expected to be imbued with additional skills of using the Plugin Manager and Lot Editor. They are different skills. You know how you're tearing your hair out using them, that's not any different for me. I hate them :P .

Worst part is you spend hours and hours modding it and the unkind folk on the STEX complain and mark you down because they don't like how many jobs you gave it or any other stupid thing they can think of. The people who frequent the forums are at least appreciative and respectful, they understand how much work goes into making these creations. Anyway, that's months of STEX angst pouring out in one sentence, I'll stop now :P .

Hopefully I'll get something new out soon :thumb:

Andisart, nothing special about the roof really. Assume you mean the roof texture? Its just something I made in photoshop. Glad you like it, thanks :)

Oh that's good about the civic buildings.  Sorry if it sounded like a stupid question... I just wanted to make sure.
And by the way I always thought you did a really good job with the functional landmark buildings you outputted.  That's why I never thought you would be tearing out your hair making them functional because you did a really good job!  But yes, I do hear you about ploppables.  Like I mentioned earlier I don't really like the way they make the demand all wonky.  And yeah I don't expect ploppable residential because of the abandonment issues  :P  The only reason why I opt for having buildings that function with jobs is because I'm not one to build a city full of landmark buildings with little to no cars driving into the city (I'm kind of a roadgeek and I like to see people commuting to and from the CBD)... anyways I could go on for ages.

It's a shame people would complain about your work though.  Your BATs are very good.

Anyways before I go I'd like to second weixc812 on Southern Cross  I'd kill to have it in my city!!!  But I'll be patient  :)

I think it's reasonable to expect that someone who uploads game content would see to it that the content functions in the game. :read:

And nowadays with PIMX it's very easy to make growables ploppables and other basic things. You drag and drop your model into what you want to make it into, change the filling degree (what percent your building fills the LOD's bounding box) and it will calculate all the stats, except for stuff like the tileset, or the menu description which you have to do manually. The only hard part is that for some reason the program almost entirely uses hotkeys, and not buttons, so you'll need to keep the hotkey cheat sheet open at first. After a few times you'll know what to do and it should only take an hour or two to do all the modding. :)

Yup.. Landmarks function as Landmarks in game :P . Most folk seem to want them to function as something else.

All I'm saying is those folk can transform the Landmarks into whatever makes their hearts content they don't need me to do it :thumb: .
