Here's the first update on my first Chicago building, it needs some more work, I need to work on the measurements for the building. Chicago city block size is different from New York City so I will have to come up with a plan to work the lot size with the buildings. The lot size should be 1x3, I also want to make a 1x2 version for those New York City blocks if it's possible, but I think it's not.

 

I hope Darn is around, I need help with naming this building.

Time for a bit of necromancy. After a week of hard work and a 15 hour render, I finally finished the block of Chicago I was working on so long ago to print as a present for one of my sisters who lives near there. There are a few noticeable errors but I couldn't stop the render once I noticed them, when I finish the buildings for in game I'll fix them.

 

 

Now that there's a max 2014 fix, I will ~finally~ render out some of my buildings for simcity.

I've always wanted to create two never-built Chicago buildings: Skyneedle and 7 South Dearborn Street, some of my favorite tower designs. Those two aren't listed on the first page, so I assume no one has plans to work on them. If otherwise, let me know (sorry I couldnt read through all the thread pages).

I gotta say I never really got into the design of Chicago Spire, so I'll probably have to pass. Isnt there a BAT for it out there already?

Rumors of my death are greatly exaggerated. 

 

I was going to keep this a secret until I finished it but I don't want anyone to think that I'm gone for good. 

 

I've decided to continue work on the jewelers building but without the step-by-step. I reached the detailing phase and I realized that it would be the most tedious thing I've ever done to document the entirety of detailing... So instead, I'm going to post closeup photos as I go and take requests for tutorials on individual types of detail.

I've done the cupola so far today. It takes a while to get to this much detail but I'm trying to be as faithful to the original as I can. Anyways, any requests for tutorials on individual parts of this are welcomed. (ex. the floral bands on the cupola, the sunflowers, or the arrangement of anything)

 

And in context of the rest of the building.

 

As you can see, this is such a small but major piece of the whole building which is just as detailed throughout so you can see why I'm opting for this way.

In regards to previous buildings. Rendering is by far my least favorite of this process considering how time-consuming it is and how often something goes wrong. I will try to get onto that as soon as I'm able but it's just such a detestable process to waste hours on a failed render that it's low on my list. I am truly sorry for that, but it is the nature of the problem and myself that is making it as annoying as it is.

 

Btw, Andisart, feel free to do any buildings you want that aren't already in progress. Anything that isn't already in progress is up for grabs.

I, personally, have no time at all. I got too much RL business right now which won't change until April. Also, I got SBS running and I'm looking forward to getting a bunch of programmes like Maya, ZBrush, PS and Cinema4D as a preparation for my later job. However, I hope I'll get some creativity and return to batting as soon as possible. Meanwhile, darn will take over

I just deadly hope the previous projects can move a little further if possible. I don't know about the exact rendering issues but maybe you can pass this task to someone who has a sparer and more powerful machine. However, if errors keep occurring and you cannot figure it out, it will be meaningless to try to get a perfect render again and again. I believe it's not that bad...
