I've never had this problem before. Just open the airport with the Lot Editor, make the changes and hit Save.

    Stairs-like cities are awesome...

    A1-3Jan001348322924_zps4427e7e6.jpg

... but how about turning the slopes themselves into buildings?!

    A1-3Jan001348323161_zps6a242494.jpg

Thanks to the advices of the good people of SC4D and SimPeg, it's now possible to dress a hill and turn it into building!

    A1-3Jan001348323145_zps9a3fb681.jpg

Raise big enough hills and mountains and turn them into huge buildings and even arcologies! Make them large enough to support buildings, airports, neighbourhoods and even whole cities!! Dig canyons and turn them into underground cities! Raise islands and turn them into waterscrapers! Tons of possibilities :golly:

    A1-3Jan001348323284_zps11f6841a.jpg

More pictures and textures are coming soon

Could someone link where I can find these houses?

    Thanks

I'm pretty sure all those buildings are included in the SimMars mod. To get them going on the regular SC4 version, download the Also, for future reference, it's much more ideal to ask on the correct thread for building queries

I never liked empty promises and hollow teasers, so I hope this post is not one of them. Against all odd, I'll be back before 1/1/2016. Don't hold your breath, but don't lose your hopes either.

I have some good news. My previous PC, in which I used to make my lots, is alive and kicking! My uncle repaired the old PC and he's going to give it back to me as soon as it's 100% fully repaired. I don't know when (or if) I'll get it, but I promise I'll be back to work ASAP. And I'm happy for that, because I have plenty of new ideas, such as thorium reactors, agricultural cloning plants, genetic smelters, trade depots with small vertiports for flying freight transporters, robotic industrial plants, cranes and spaceports that utilizes antigravity engines, central quantum computers, green roofs, mine operations that uses microbes instead of boreholes, and cybernetic enhancement devices, all using 100% futuristic dependency packs such as NH Props V1 1 and METMW: Prop Pack Beta.
And I can't wait to send this crappy laptop back to the fires of Hell!

Some of you might have noticed that I'm finally back. I've got a new PC (A HP Slimline with Windows 10) back on May 2018, I got a new digital copy of SimCity 4 on June from GOG.com and after more than 4 years I can finally play my favorite game, build my cities and make my own lots. This means that Barsoom Project will be back on track. But hold your horses. I don't have the free time I used to have back in 2014 (the last time I played SimCity) because of my job. I'm translating from English to Greek and adding subtitles to various episodes of Discovery Network series, such as How The Universe Works and NASA's Unexplained Files. A lot of work, but still not a lot of income. Lack of time means that Barsoom Project is not going to be completed anytime soon. But that doesn't stop me from making some progress and some experiments. And today, after 2 years since my last post (the previous PC, although repaired, was still crappy), I'll be showing you a personal project that has been in my head since the very beginning of Barsoom Project back in 2010.

One thing I really wanna do is to make all SimMars buildings available in as many sizes and stages as possible. All the SimMars buildings will have a large variety of lots in different shapes and sizes, from 1X1 to 6X6 (depending on the size of the building itself). The result will be something like this...

    5c4d652b059fa_NewCity-Jan.2001546100130.jpg.2e241699cca74a4d83f65d479dd5b2cf.jpg

The above lots are just 4 of the 36 place holders I've made for this building, just to give you an idea. In the final form they'll not be empty and only green. There will be many things, such as trees, lakes, underground parking garages, benches, fountains, launch pads, trail paths etc.

Giving all SimMars buildings such a large variety of sizes and shapes will give you more flexibility while zoning and developing. You can have the buildings very close to each other, making unbearably dense areas, or give them plenty of personal space, making ridiculously spare areas. You can finally make your zones as large or as small as you want, without worrying that you'll get an empty space because some specific buildings will be constructed only on specifically sized and shapes zones. All SimMars buildings available in as many sizes and stages as possible, so no matter the size and the shape, you'll always get something.

    5c4d650ed4a49_FutureCity-Aug.15791546101698.jpg.6676fa4d05cd7d8f513beac9d2754b83.jpg

You can also get some of the buildings sooner than ever. The larger the lot is, the smaller will be the stage in which the building will be constructed. By giving larger lots to larger buildings, it will be possible to have apartment buildings and skyscrapers even in low density zones. And because the largest lot for a grown-able building is 6X6, be prepared for really exotic results! For instance, the above slim black building will be built in all commercial zones, from light to heavy density, from stage 8 to stage 1 to stage 8. I'm not kidding!

    lowdensity.jpg.edd61b67a4c4574c1210ee70fd1ad562.jpg

All the above will make the game a bit more interesting and challenging. It might make you want to take some more control and decide where should be build what, instead of just zone and let the game do the rest. So, how the future will be like? Overly dense? Overly spare? Something between? That's up to you. Lay a large low density commercial zone and you'll get a couple of small skyscrapers. Lay a large heavy density commercial zone and you'll get a lot of small skyscrapers. Go crazy. It's your city.

It will also be a nice opportunity to experiment with city blocks. Here is something that I've always wanted to build. 18X18 city blocks, for 8 6X6 zones, with a large park in the middle. Something like this...

    5c4d6537c8371_NewCity-Jan.6001546036386.jpg.0de5a60b304d91e9fe52e08db8b55eb1.jpg

Now that's the commercial districts I've always wanna have. Skyscrapers with enough open space in between them to let them breath. Same with the industries and the residential buildings.

I myself had thought about doing just this. It would be a very useful set of lots, altough maybe you can make a couple of pieces without lightposts for those of us who use light replacement mods :thumb:

Tbh, I found it surprising how well these pieces assemble together to form a smaller park, and all that without dependencies.

I'm wondering whether a similar set for diagonal applications would be possible using @kingofsimcity's superb textures. Add a tree replacement mod if you want, and the result could look astonishingly good even in a city that's very heavy on plugins and far from plain vanilla look otherwise.

Thank you very much for your comments, folks.

@Edvarz, since LRM is something I used to be familiar with, I'm going to download it again and  make my lots accordingly.

@T Wrecks, the goal of this particular set is to use as less dependencies as possible, none of them if possible. I'm not familiar with @kingofsimcity's textures, so I'll give them a try before playing with them.

As you can see some posts above, you can change the stage a building will be growing by changing the size of it's lot. The bigger the building, the higher the stage. The larger the lot, the lower the stage. So it's possible to get apartment buildings by laying low density residential zones. At least in theory, right? WRONG! Having a low density neighborhood with apartment buildings instead of single houses is possible in both theory and practice.

For experimentation and just for the heck of it, I took some SimMars apartment buildings (and a cool building made by Somy) and gave them a 6x6 base in decrease their stage as much a possible. This is how a low density city can look like. Remember that the lots are just for experimentation, so no details for now. I olny put some textures and then plant some trees just to give you an idea. Expect more details, like street lights and underground parking spaces, in their final form.

    And remember. Low density.

Just a tip. LRM is an override mod for the Maxis lights. So if you stick to using the Maxis lights, your lots will work regardless of whether or not LRM is installed. Only if it is, the LRM lights will appear instead of the Maxis ones. In fact, I believe but have not tested, the same would be true for USL users also. Of course, it therefore doesn't matter if you use LRM whilst lotting or not, since the same Maxis ID'd props will be used either way.

Yes, the Lot Editor calculates that automatically, but that calculation is not entirely reliable if the size of the grey building box in the LE is unusually large (think of a tiny building with a large BATted footprint) or small (think of a small invisible building model when the visible building is used as a prop).

Likewise, lower stage and lower density zones correlate (I guess this is based on a similar calculation),  but not 100%.

I feel it is safer to adjust the corresponding values directly using iLive's Reader application. Technically, there is nothing that keeps you from making a 1x1 low-density stage 1 lot for a thin skyscraper with 6,000 occupants.

Personally, I also like to restrict low-density stuff to low-density zones only, which can be done easily using the Reader (no more cheap low-rise motels on high-density zones for skyscrapers!). Of course, that's a matter of taste and preference. I don't know if it would be useful for your project.

Just to make sure you know it (and/or any reader of this thread, too) in case you would like to make use of this possibility, this size limit can also be overridden. Several of the HKABT lots are far bigger than 6x6 and can grow, for example. *:)

You are certainly up to pretty unique stuff yet again!

Thanks for the comments, folks :)

Capital SimCity has a great recreation of Tyrell Corporation separated in 3 parts, so make sure you have all of them. I decided to make my own version for my personal reasons.

Here they are. The original and my version. Can you find which is which?

    5d1cc2050c556_NewCity-Feb.5001560096816.jpg.305aec067aa22d1570dafaf146f19283.jpg

OK, here is the answer. The original version is the one with the red, empty base.

    5d1cc20933e42_NewCity-Feb.10001560096885.jpg.4a3e25e530bbea831d7f569b10183573.jpg

And my version is the modular one, made by 2 smaller pieces.

    5d1cc20d72d07_NewCity-Jun.14001560097287.jpg.a47b0814c2e68b68d3b46da4ce98d989.jpg

I did it for a couple of reasons. First of all, the red base looks awesome in my Martian cities but very irrelevant in my Terran cities. I also didn't like the small grass stripes that appears sometimes.

    5d1cc215a6fe4_NewCity-Mar.10001560097037.jpg.eea8df74d9a00484c992ef74a4acf0bc.jpg

I also wanted something modular and flexible, so I can fill the base with whatever I want, like skyscrapers or factories, or maybe I want to build it in an hexagonal instead of a square.

    5d1cc21235929_NewCity-Jun.27001560097519.jpg.89be1be4f9d1b406ae1c016b04b0fcc0.jpg

Of course I'm not very happy with the white base because it's too empty and clean for such a building. I'll need something more cyberpunk, high-tech and badass for this building. We'll see.

Want to fill some gaps with something simple and nice, but you can't decide between plazas or parks? Now you can have them both as plaza-parks. Plaza-parks is a collection of lots that allows you to build parks and fill gaps at any shape and design you wish. I had this idea when I was making my lots many years ago while I was playing with Maxis overlay textures, and finally is high time to put the idea into practice. The aim is to create a flexible set of pieces (something like puzzle pieces) in order to make bigger parks on any size and shape without the need of any dependency, allowing all kind of players to use them. In other words, only Maxis made props and textures so everybody can use them. If you don't like the trees, you can use a tree replacement mod or the Lot Editor to customize them by yourself.

Right now there are 22 pieces but I'm making some extra more to fill some gaps I found while I was testing them.

    5e4836c654bd9_NewCity-Mar.7001581783508.jpg.3724d0ecd29e99deb9b0b017b92d6611.jpg

I divided the collection into 3 sets just for convenience. The first set includes the most simple pieces, the "base" if you prefer.

    5e4836bb6b40b_NewCity-Jun.5001581783711.jpg.24125f94d4bf6a5b78a4dd85469f7498.jpg

The second set add some extra paths, reducing the number of the trees (especially the bigger ones) and giving you a more plaza feeling.

    5e4836b79289c_NewCity-Aug.27001581783928.jpg.0e8bbc3caeae6fbad29ee7b8121b6ef0.jpg

The third set adds diagonal paths to use them as corners and for more artistic variations.

    5e4836caadc60_NewCity-Nov.26001581784172.jpg.9edd744e7a370f5881997a91fb4be65b.jpg

    Plenty of possibilities :D

    5e4836c1116c4_NewCity-Mar.2011581784399.jpg.fc3d719f5dabb19079baa599b4c827ff.jpg

Plaza-parks can be used to close gaps, divide zones and surround buildings like museums and bus stops.

    5e48369eb7ee6_Centrurium-Mar.4931581785823.jpg.93b2f38a811b5d6ab8e1730cf74d3f16.jpg

But you can also build entire parks, with those pieces alone or by mixing them with extra parts like playgrounds and whatever you have in your plugins folder.

    5e4836a43c8cd_Deltaville-Apr.27271581787892.jpg.aac7be912401133211b1907569abf8bf.jpg

One of my very first downloads was Quadrahedron Matrix, originally made by 2ch.net simplayer. A cool set of futuristic landmarks with jobs that can be connected to build a network of them, but sadly suffers from plop-without-a-building disease. Zelgadis made a landmark-only version of it, but he didn't included T and + intersections. So I made them and they'll be released very soon.

Floating Speed Way is a fun set made by @Fukajun to build floating racing tracks of the future, with animated racing cars. It comes with two packs, Basic Pack and Stunt Back. However I like using the Basic Pack to build elevated roads and air bridges to connect buildings, something like the skybridges of SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow. So if we replace the racing cars with some of @Huston's props, we'll get a personal project I call "Future Roads Project".

    5e80cdf78c518_NewCity-Oct.28001585498181.jpg.dd70f45579d032b368324fcf72ceac71.jpg

Future Roads is a set of eye-candy antigravitational roads for antigravitational vehicles, obviously for future cities where there is no more enough land for ground roads and Sims prefer personal cars instead of mass transit.

    5e80cddf97e92_NewCity-Nov.12001585498251.jpg.d91897313f18b0d355d85822bab85f4f.jpg

Since some of the roads are over-hanged, it's possible to make them run above small buildings and ground roads.

    5e80cdf084635_NewCity-Nov.24001585498333.jpg.f9dd0dc0d9edeec39dbc1449cfaa4143.jpg

The original roads are floating in the height of 45 meters. I reduced them to 13,5 meters in order to visually connect them with the ground road system through the NAM pieces. Obviously the ground automata will be disappeared when they try to get to the Future Roads.

And of course it's possible to make visual connections to some of the buildings as well. It's a very trope in future cities to have buildings large enough to have avenues running though them. Please use your imagination and ignore the lack of tunnels on the building. And the trees in the middle of the roads *:P

What do you think? Of course I'm going to expand it and even add a 45 meters height set as well, but I'm not sure If I'm going to release it. It's just for personal fun. Nobody else will want this, right?

Every modern city needs enough recycling centers and waste-to-energy incinerators to deal with the trash, and the more clean and efficient they are the better. But even the best of those facilities need some space, making the construction of them in cities at which land is at premium a big challenge. Add to this equation the need of deploying noisy garbage trucks that contribute to traffic jam and air pollution in a time consuming process of collecting so many trash from an entire city, and you'll realize that there is still some room for necessary  improvements. These includes underground automated waste collection systems that uses vacuum pressure to move waste and recyclables from buildings and street bins, and even constructing entire underground recycling and incinerating facilities right under our feet. To simulate those ideas and bring then into SimCity 4, I downloaded Wertstoffsammelstelle (Small Public Recycling Site) by @11241036 and Super Recycle Can by @wpc002, and reloted them accordingly. The results are a public site where people can dispose of their recyclable garbage, which from there will be transported by an underground pneumatic system to the nearest recycling center, and a public yard for larger materials to store them, which yard can also work as an underground incinerator or send those materials to a larger one by underground systems or flying drones.

What do you think? They'll be used in the upcoming new entry of Welcome to Fairvew CJ (link in my signature below) with more information about those concepts, so consider this post as a mini teaser :D

You know what? I think it's about time. Barsoom Project is coming back, and this time it's going to be better than before. Not only I'm going to finish the futurization of all Maxis lots that I haven't touch yet, but I'm going to upgrade and improve all of the lots I've already made, by replacing already used textures with better ones, fixing errors, and adding more details. It's a lot of work, but it has to be done. And as always, ideas are always welcomed :)

Let's begin with the stage 1 CO$$$ lots. I have already futurized them, as you can see in those old pictures from 2013. Some of them even had small landing pads for flying vehicles and lakes with ducks and swans.

    9853516923_34e15eb62c_o.jpg

This is how they used to be ⬆️

And this is now. They still have their landing pads and lakes, but now they come with better textures, more variety in cars (including Akira bikes and cars from Command and Conquer), futuristic benches with neon lights, easier and more realistic access to the underground parking garages, and even robots talking to humans and other robots, serving drinks, and even feeding the ducks ⬇️

To be honest, I feel that my new lots are way better than my older ones. And this is only the beginning. By the way, I noticed some small mistakes that I'm going to fix them. You can't see them easily, unless you have Tally-Hawk's eyes *:P

You must have had a lot of fun making this happen. Bravo, it's really nice to see. Good continuation.

Or maybe that bike actually belongs to the robot. A robot riding a futuristic bike. And you know what would be even more fun? If that bike has an AI too. That would be like a robot riding a robot. What's next? A horse riding a horse? **:P

When we think about futuristic transportation, our mind immediately goes to good old flying cars. Don't get me wrong, flying cars are indeed awesome and an easy and reliable way to put your cities into the future, especially if they're self-driven and hydrogen-fueled too. However, it seems that nowadays more and more people believe that the future of urban transportation might not be something as cool as a flying car, but something as humble as... a bicycle. This might sounds a bit lame, but with traffic jam, air pollution and car accidents (among other problems) still unsolved, it actually make sense to accept a future with more and more bicycles and other similarly small vehicles.

    Bike-Europe-Bicycle-trends-of-the-future

Hmm, highways for bicycles. Now that's something now, something that you don't see everyday even as a concept. Still better that the highways we have now for our cars.

For this reason, I'm going to include bicycles in my futuristic lots by using @murimk's Props Vo01 - Bicycle Props pack. Less cars, more bikes, more options for our Sims. And they really look great in a green, solarpunk city of the future  :D

    62461ee0911a5_NewCity-Jan.2001648760444.jpg.3a85c90a5959e4bd2890d6e598e08b10.jpg

What do you think? I want to make my bicycle parking spaces as realistic as possible, but I'm not familiar with bicycles and anything around them. So, since this is something new for me, please let me know if I've done something wrong. Any ideas and suggestions will be welcomed and taken into consideration *:golly:
Wait, did I just asked for realism? What's wrong with me? o.O

When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you. In other words, you shouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth." - Twilight Sparkle after playing SimCity

"Being a mayor or a content creator for SimCity 4 is a heavy responsibility, Patrick. Each city and each custom content is like a child, and must be treated as such." - SpongeBob Squarepants after playing SimCity

"Without deviation from the norm, progress is not possible." - Frank Zappa

"The wisest men follow their own direction." - Euripides

But we still need your support to stay online. If you're able to, please consider a donation to help us stay up and running. This helps sustain a platform where we can share our community creations for years to come.
