From what I'm understanding, Mechalic, you're saying that people who are supposed to like the game are simply complaining about its flaws, and are doing nothing about it, right? Fine. But what if some people (modders for example) are trying to do something about it, but EA/Maxis won't allow them to do so? If EA/Maxis wants to keep a tight control on online activity, fine again. However, since we now have offline activity, why can't the modders create bigger maps, and quite frankly, EA/Maxis make it easier for them to do so? Again, this has nothing to do with online activity.

Bluntly, I believed EA/Maxis would eventually allow bigger maps, which is why I purchased the game in the first place, then later informed that after checking, they could not. Gee, I wish they could have let me know that beforehand. Makes me wonder they'd guess people like me wouldn't buy the game, and by gosh, they'd be right! The only reason they checked was because we who wanted bigger maps complained about it. I resent being called a demander (or whiner, take your pick). I paid for this game with my hard-earned money, and I felt I was taken to the cleaners.

The only reason I'm playing SC2013 now is because of the offline feature, and the hope bigger maps will be made available, either through a mod, or by EA/Maxis. I see no problem whatsoever for people here who complain about the game's flaws in a civil manner. I'm one of them.

Here's what I propose. Maxis needs to allow all game configuration within mods (including maps) allowing us to mod our own regions and map designs.

Now, yes some computer from 1990 will not work on this, and maybe the average user playing won't be able to do a map the size of a full region, but, let us choose, give us the option to mod that, if it crashes, those users won't use or be able to use. But for the ones with the machine, the power and the modding ability, we'd want to try that out, we're the ones that can handle the simulation.

Offline mode was stated they aren't able to do. yet they did. If they have to rework some of it, then do it, but bigger maps are needed, We want to build on all the land, don't limit. I know this is the story that has been going on since its release, but some of us want to play more than just a metro area, more than just downtown, like the old days, farm land, or outskirts and urban areas. I don't think any of that will ever happen, but it would be cool if the game didn't have such limits.

Wonder what they are working on now... their updates have started to slow down since offline mode. I really wish Blizzard (creator of World of Warcraft) bought Maxis, (they make Great games) or at least WIll Wright was still on the team, seems like the wrong people working for the fans that once loved the game. (I still like the game, but interest in its limitations and ability have fallen, need more to make this game have a longer life expectancy. Once you've built a city, you use so much land for large resources, like power, oil, service builds (hospital etc), I know making a region a full city map would be insane, and with the graphs and glassbox agents to handle that would be crazy. But something, at least larger than what it is now, not just a perfect square, why not make more of the land around the city accessible. There's so much land, esp near the water that you can't build on, another idea, like SC4, connecting streets from one city to another, have the borders touch each city. or at least make more cities within the region, and have all the borders touch, that way we can make a huge city, but controlled by different cities etc. Just another idea. One highway connection isnt going to cut it. Not with the traffic load)

This topic is for discussion of city size. We need to get back on track and remember to keep on it. Opinions related to EA and Maxis not related to city size and to those who either like or dislike the game are irrelevant and do not belong here.

If you have nothing to say related to tile size then don't post here. Feel free to find a more appropriate thread.

Thanks.

Look, I'm not here to debate whether a large tile is adequite or if it comapres to sim city 4, I'm here to tell maxis that these cities are NOT large enough and I am not buying the game until the possibility to make larger tiles exists

thats a smart idea.

I wish I would have done that.

I can literally build a successful city layout in 15 minute, without rushing.

It's too small

Since the game came out I heard they will be letting us remove the borders in the future or in offline mode. and now it has been so long and its almost like they don't care anymore its one of the biggest problems  one of the main reasons older mayors wont bother with simcity2013. IT is pathetic I have to keep switching city to city for every little thing because one city alone just cant handle more than one or 2 specializations if i want to also have a high population IT is ridiculous.

I swore up and down that I would not play this game until they fixed tile size.

This morning I woke up a year older than I was the previous day.  My 4 year old and two year old came in yelling "HAPPY BIRTHDAY".  My oldest handed me a present.  I unwrapped it, inside, SimCity 2013.

So, I guess I will be playing it after all!

So I bought sim city 5 on origins yesterday and I was so happy to get it running with my new computer since I played all the sim city before to death.

I played a couple of hours and my city zone is almost full.  I have to expend, but it seems like the game wants me to start a new city elsewhere in the region??? What is happenning here?
I really don't feel like doing the same thing over and over again.  Starting the city is the boring part, the fun part is to see it grow and expend it.

Anyway, is there a way to merge a few city spaces or something like that, or just make the city limits bigger?

Seriously, I really don't feel like playing much more.... worst 20$ ever spent!

You're the first person to complain about the small city boundaries.

...except for everyone else who plays the game.

hehe ya, I just realised that reading the forum.

Is the online game different?

Maybe they load region data as needed - sort of like a roaming MMO, your character only sees 2KM in any direction but as soon as you move towards that direction it loads data as you go and dumps data as you leave. Done correctly this could be reletively seamless on a good PC.

that is a very smart idea!

I couldn't play this stupid little map size so I simply asked a refund. Which I did get.

I might come back later when they solve that problem.

I have a top of the line computer which I built JUST TO PLAY simcity since I liked the previous versions so much. Oh well!

Sure the map sizes arn't as big as we would all like, but that is how they released the game, that was the new game engine, and that was the direction for the game. Instead of sitting on forums or like the whingers over on the facebook site complaining day in day out for over a year for a game they have contributed nothing towards, actually buy it, experience it for yourself, instead of judging it based on videos and what not.

If a mod comes up with bigger maps.. then maybe i'll buy this game. If it doesn't work on my computer i won't blame anybody.. IMO i don't think any game developer these days think about the min requirements.. look at GTA or NFS...

Well, I did buy the game and asked a refund!

I might buy it again when they fix that problem, until then, I might just wait and whine about it a bit!

The fact is I, nor Maxis, nor anyone cares about it. It's not a problem, it's how the game was designed and how it will remain. You think Maxis cares that you dont spend $40 on a game. You can whine all day until the cows come home, it won't make a bit of difference, as the game IS NOT BROKEN, the game runs suburb and always has. So you can sit there, with your demands, and whine and wait, because you will be waiting for an eternity. It's no different to me playing another game like Tropico, and whinging and complaining that the game is broken because 'I' cannot zone residential, only plop buildings. That is how it was designed, the qualified and skilled designers make the game in accordance with the design guidelines from EA.

If you don't like it, then move on, and play something else. Because I can assure you there is no other city builder out there even remotely close the complexities and city management this offers you.

The problem with SOCIETY today, is they are ungrateful and demanding, if you actually considered the hard work put into this game, you should be grateful and appreciate it for what it is, instead of sitting behind your computer complaining about how what you want is not in a game. As I said earlier, complain all you like, it will get you no where. Whilst us gamers continue on, actually playing our games and enjoying our time during this one opportunity we get to experience life on this planet vs complaining about pathetic things.

Will not be re-visiting this forum post, it's not worth my time when I could be playing or doing something with my life.

General Reminder:

Let's not turn this back into a debate of whether or not the game is acceptable. The topic is tile size, not "to play or not to play?".

People have always had varying opinions about this, and they should be respected. It's not acceptable to attack others for what they think. This includes viewing map sizes as too small, or other features in the game are lacking, inadequate or unacceptable. The same also applies for those that cope with the limitations, and still enjoy SC13 for what it does offer.

Thanks.

Actually as I see it here is beyond the game. I think it's a way of thinking.  You like to follow the rules and accept things as they are. it's your personality.  Some people in this world actually demand better, they actually try to make thing better and I'd like to think I'm part of them.

Let me ask you, at your work. Do you ask for a raise once in a while or do you even expect one? Do you try to make things better or even try to improve your every day tasks??  Or you just accept everything as they are, no raises or no improvements in your every day tasks?  I know it's a little bit off topic, but I think it's a matter of personality and vision on life here.

If you accept and enjoy the game as it is, than fine. This topic is actually not for you.

but if we whine or ask changes it's because we actually see TONS of potential to this great game and most of us in this topic actually think the game would be better this way.  The fact that we would have bigger maps wouldn't change anything to your game play!

Indeed :) extended maps are coming. Hope this satisfies the people that were practically begging for them months ago on the EA forums (you should've seen how angry some people got over the game.... rants and such).

"If you try to please everybody, you often times end up pleasing nobody, especially yourself. When somebody offers to do a favor for free, like making a mod for SimCity 4, you shouldn't be overly critical of something generously given to you.
