2 km x 2 km is roughly the size of a medium city tile in SC4, right? I don't understand the issue...

Well you remember in SC4 you could you know... like... work with the region right next door and ya know... connect the roads...and the city.. to ya know.. make one big city... and make things look realistic...

Lol.

Also, those tiny cities look more (or less even) like small city tiles in SC4. No way it's 2x2.

dont know why this is pinned since it is obvious that we are going to have to pay for an ep to expand city size

To make this thing multi-player, they should have let individuals have REGIONS, and those regions compete with each other.  And they could have had slightly larger tiles That were contiguous, and let us build highways and great works by ourselves.  SC2013 is a steaming pile, and until they make a game that I will enjoy, I will not be partaking.

The tile size puts a huge restraint on gameplay options. I also hate how road density controls directly waterlines, power lines and building density. Part of the fun was doing all those yourself, and watching your city grow out of its original borders when you rezoned plots to bigger densities, then had to upgrade your roads to avenues manually, the way you wish your own council would at a particular busy place in your own city. Sim City 2013 is a joke

They should of kept the region from SimCity 4, the region should just be a flat 2D representation of all your cities from ONE angle. All the trading a sharing of recourses could still be shown in the same way!

When you want to create a city have it the same as SimCity 4 (Just that city on a block!).

If this was the case the city size would not have mattered. They should have listened.

edit: This is my only problem with the game, I am still going to get it, I don't hate this game in any way, its just let down by presentation!

In all the streams I visit, it seems like no one is ever building anything.  They spend hours combing over their city looking for space to plop down a building.  That just seems so strange to me for a Simcity game.

I too have watched many a stream in the past few days. The main thing I've noticed, most people don't use the region properly. The tile size being what they are, it's clearly best to have cities have their own functions and to share them properly. If one city is on the ocean, make them the water supplier for other cities(near endless water supply). You could have some little green city in charge of the poop and perhaps a green power supply(the advanced solar panels are pretty badass). Make the culture city have a whole ton of schooling, including the monstrous university. I've only seen 1 or 2 people do this and it works great, albeit hard to balance when all your cities are still growing.

That being said, I've also seen many regions have near 0 connectivity. Tourists weren't coming in, resources weren't being shared an airports/boats/trains were pretty much useless. This wasn't by design either, the region simply wasn't allowing it.

^It will come with time. Everybody is used to SC4 regions, where cities have their own water and power supplies. In SC2013 however, each city has to specialize in something, and many people don't understand that.

An example of this working the other way is a friend of mine. He purchased Simcity and was very excited to play it, even though he hadn't played SC4 in a very long time. He immediately figured out that to have a succesful region, he would have to have each city specialize in something, such as water, power, garbage, etc, due to the tile sizes being quite small. Now if he were to play SC4, he might not have a very succesful region because the tiles are larger, and you can have all these services in a single city. SC4 cities weren't designed to be dependant on each other like they are in SC2013.

Thats mostly due to server issues, people are joining then being dumped out and forgetting their cities. My first public region i joined, had only 3 of 16 maps being built on, yet it was full...16 out of 16. Just the 13 others were stuck not able to log on.

And now with search and friends disabled, it gets even worse.

I experience this differently with my city. I joined the region because of its german name. There was no free city tile but one abandoned city. I accepted the challenge of correcting the former majors mistakes (the city was very unbalanced to say the least) and have since then experienced how regions can work... I'm providing the region with garbage (since nobody else took the job... Not happy about that) and power and the other cities provide me with water (which I don't have because of ground pollution... Thanks to the former owner) as well as stuff for my processor factory and hi tech industry. Even though we don't know each others our cities help each other if needed and keep everything in balance... Or close to everything :)

I got problems with the city tiles too - but not because of my inhabitants but because I have a high wealth city and those buildings need more space... I have no idea where to put more stuff :( Like expansion for university and such. On the other hand - I think I'm owning the wealthiest city in the region already so I shouldn't say anything :D

I think a large part of the city size is that it looks smaller than it really is. In SC4 you looked out into nothingness, but in SC there's all these unreachable parts of the region. The large dotted borderline makes this even worse. It makes everything look a lot smaller. I made a mockup on New York to show how a more transparent and thinner border makes it look much bigger.

this is exactly my point... I WANNA USE ALL THE LANDS! Not a stupid little dotted box. If they just had the region design of SC4, then this new SimCity would be great! I wouldn't care about the forced online play, or the other crap... I just want to build the city my way and watch it grow... but you really can't. It's a shame.

If I didn't know any better I would think Simcity 2013 was the precurser to Simcity 4. The simulation is more realistic in 2013 but the graphics are not as good and there is not as much freedom. I've been able to play the game on and off since it's release and the more I play it the more I like it. I don't think I'll ever put it in the same league as SC4 though... at least not until expanded regions, larger plot sizes and more transportation options are added. Just my $0.02! :)

The game is alright in its own right but the tiles are beyond ridiculous. I picked up the game yesterday and after playing on and off since I'm just about out of room. Relegated to upgrading roads to add density if I want to continue. So I'm left wondering what do I do now? After struggling to balance the budget and grow you get to the fun part of really building a city and then bang out of room. So I guess I join another region, play for a couple days and run out of room again? Gee so much fun.

I tried to embrace the whole macro mode style of playing but just can't get into it. Its neat to get up and close with what you've created for awhile but this is SimCity, I want to build a damn city.

I know they promised we will see city tile increases in the future but honestly I doubt we'll ever get tiles big enough to create anything resembling a real city.

I just find it really unrealistic that the city tiles don't connect with each other... In real life you don't find blobs of high density with virtually wilderness separating between these blobs... Not to mention the sizes are really small.

i wish they would make it 4x the size of what it is now >< ..or maybe 16x by 16x of what we have now. after 30 mins of gameplay all my stupid advisors are telling me to  ZONE MOAR, We need no power...etc, all i wanna tell them is shhhh up cause theres no more windmills to put down, no more solar panel to lay down, no more space to accommodate moaaaar citizens and for the love of GOD WHY are you complaining of air pollution when i am using all my money into going green?! and what/'s this? you misplaced a 120k building?! you cant put a ploppable addon to it? No sir youre not getting a refund ><

Hi this is my first post on here been a long time lurker but I now feel the need to spill my disappoint and anger at this game. I am an avid simcity fan and love the previous instalment even with all it's shortcomings. Since the announcement of simcity 5 I have religiously checked for updates on the Internet daily. Every time we were given little snippets of gameplay and teased continuously through Facebook and other media forms with pointless screen shots and empty promises. Maxis and EA used our curiosity and love for the game as a massive cash cow. I personally do not believe that this is the way The guys at Maxis wanted this game to be but when you sell your soul to the devil it is innevetable and instead of producing a game true to the series you become a slave to money. I was planning on building a PC just for this game which I believe shows my eagerness to play this instalment. However after reading reviews and the opinions of many gamers and professionals I will not be taking part in this circus. The always online is no issue for me, however the tiny city tiles is a farce no matter which way maxis tries to dress it up. The beautiful game is ruined by this decision and I am almost certain that we will only get larger sizes through DLC. I am not against DLC but when basics have been left out on purpose and the customer treated like an idiot this just adds to drag down the reputation of this game. EA believe they will make fortunes from DLC on this game like the sims but one key point they miss is the demographic playing simcity is mainly older males not young females and for this reason we will most likely see the death of simcity 5. On top of this the glitches, errors, removal of terraforming, limited modding(?), routing problems for traffic and probably countless other simple errors and problems drag this beautifully created simulation game to the gutters. Touching on the "run on your dads pc" comment by Ocean. What are you talking about ocean we waited for this game for 10 years games drag technology forward, ganes are created and people adapt to the needs of the game. You might as well of made a block graphics simcity as my dad still runs on windows 95 IBM brick. I am hoping that these problems are fixed and city sizes increased, better connectivity in regions between cities, fix for the glitches and reintroduction of terraforming. Maxis listen to what your fans want they are on here if 90% of people are shouting one thing surely there must be some truth in what they have to say. All you have to do is listen we are not asking for much please do not kill this game through greed.

I say larger city sizes AND contiguous city tiles.  Just increasing the city size in my opinion won't fix the problems with this game.

A big problem I have is that being short on space punishes unusual, aesthetically pleasing road layouts and basically forces you to resort to a grid.

Just think the city building sizes are small i understand the Region thing they got going. but its been over eight years since iv'e played sim city lol but ive built two cities in one day & want to keep building but white lines say No i mean all that untouched region from rivers coast mountains. Lol i remember last time i played sim 4 the whole region i was able to build now im confined to a white sqaure.. I just wish they could extend that border even further it's way to small on all the maps cmon...

Who made this game really gamefaces like me auto know that sim city is a building game. so why the HELL is the building maps so small, people like this are killing good games i love sim city just came back after 8 yrs but this is wrong to me. Plus all that open space around the region teasing our ant cities?.. Did they huddle together & really pat each other on the backs & say good job plenty of issues here how do i know well im a veteran of all titles what a waste...

As I keep saying I won't be purchasing the game until the map sizes have been increased to at least 8x8 km but even that is still really small for a real world city. Let's face it, most cities are sprawling wastelands with stripmalls, homes and golf courses.  Give me realism, I don't need to see or follow every sim walking down the street. I care more about the macroview more than micro!

I think you've nailed it. A true resource based agent simulation game should have food as an important resource as well as other primary resources such as fish and timber. Dams should be possible. This game is utterly ridiculous. What is the use in GlassBox if we have tiny SimVillages filled with skyscrapers that go abandoned without water but can starve flor eternity?

Agreed. After playing this game for 2 or 3 days, I want my money back.  Sim villages, bugs everywhere, broken regional trading, Sims with less intelligence than ants...  I have already uninstalled this garbage.  I feel like a chump for anticipating this for so long...
