I experience this differently with my city. I joined the region because of its german name. There was no free city tile but one abandoned city. I accepted the challenge of correcting the former majors mistakes (the city was very unbalanced to say the least) and have since then experienced how regions can work... I'm providing the region with garbage (since nobody else took the job... Not happy about that) and power and the other cities provide me with water (which I don't have because of ground pollution... Thanks to the former owner) as well as stuff for my processor factory and hi tech industry. Even though we don't know each others our cities help each other if needed and keep everything in balance... Or close to everything I got problems with the city tiles too - but not because of my inhabitants but because I have a high wealth city and those buildings need more space... I have no idea where to put more stuff Like expansion for university and such. On the other hand - I think I'm owning the wealthiest city in the region already so I shouldn't say anything

I like it, especially that it has suburbs and regions with more density... I never get the transitions smoothly However I imagine you'll have many traffic problems later I think it's a very good start. What's that big building in the middle of the 2nd last picture?

I guess you don't have your own power supply that supplies your city fully? I have no problem supplying my city solely through water from other cities and am selling power of my central wind power plant, as well as supplying the surrounding cities with a place to dump their garbage (although not willingly... Nobody else was caring so I had to). You made sure everything is connected and all?
