Changes in EA Leadership, Including SimCity/Maxis
simcopops replied to macscfan's topic in Gaming Talk
Where are the posters that said sc2013 was a success? Is this enough to show that it was a flaming disaster with the most senior person being demoted? -
New Expansion Pack in November - Cities of Tomorrow
simcopops replied to macscfan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
That's funny so we can't fix the ambulances fire engines police getting stuck in traffic so we will make them fly. Waaaaheyyyyy guys what a genius idea! Seriously this has officially sealed it this game is intended for kids. Now we can have super skyscrapers and a block down the road there can be a trailer house which manages to home 50 sims. Hymmmmm -
Odd bit about the water park...

I think the graphical presentation of the water park had been trumped by the Red Cross tents -
New Expansion Pack in November - Cities of Tomorrow
simcopops replied to macscfan's topic in SimCity (2013) General Discussion
This is just turning into a comedy. So super skyscrapers for people who own a car from the 1940's to travel to their chosen form of public transport the balloon to get to work which happens to be flipping burgers at the local burger joint in the neighbouring city. I mean comeon people ok I know it's a game but just a tad of realism would not go a miss. They might as well add horseback travel options and teleportation devices. -

Funny SC2013 Review (Bad Language Warning)

Lol top class review. Sums up the rubbish we were sold! -
Video game industry sales adjusted to inflation 2003: $29.01 billion Video game industry sales adjusted to inflation 2011: $66.2 billion (NOTE THIS IS 2011; 2012 would have been even higher!) I think you will say absolutely anything to try and argue a non point. Simcity 2013 was advertised on youtube, on tv, packaging, gaming conventions etc etc back when simcity 4 was launched most of this campaigning did not exist in the games industry. Furthermore how can you even post something as non sensical as the gaming industry has shrunk in the past 10 years when budgets to make games are hitting over $150million commonplace? Have these companies gone mad? Have they decided that the industry is shrinking so the best thing to do is pump more money in. Baffled! Why did EA not offer the same refund policy back in march when the game launched, like many asked for, instead forcing more of their games on people by offering a free one? Seriously i do not even think I need to respond to this. The fact that you have 24 hours to make your mind up is even worse. How can you determine if a game is worth playing in 24 hours? Give people a week, let them truly experience it and then make their mind up.

Ok Simcity 2013 is not a facebook game, it is a very simplistic city builder. Let me put it this way, I was able to build a city that made millions with very little effort, planning or thinking. I just kept expanding and the city would grow, plop a bus station here, put a airport next to the university, plop the empire state next to the industrial plant whatever everything goes. There is no attention to any factor apart from traffic. And even with traffic if sims do not get to their job in time well it does not matter, just demolish the building and immediately a new one pops up. A real city builder makes the user think about where to place certain zones, buildings, stations, parks etc etc. Look at SC13 you can have high wealth residential across the road from a factory because you place a few plazas, it is this one dimensional gameplay that I really dislike. And when i call it a facebook game it is because of the simplicity, casualness and lack of thinking involved. Like i have said here many times I was eagerly anticipating the release of this game and there are some things i love but these are all ruined by the game itself. For example the beauty of the curved roads, ruined by tiny tile size, watching sims go about their daily business, ruined by the stupidity of them running in and out of houses like its sesame street, the ability to zoom down to street level, only to be hit in the face with a bus stop the size of a UFO etc etc. Now when it comes to the numbers, this game may have sold millions more than simcity 4 etc but you cannot make a comparassion. Firstly simcity 4 was released 10 years ago, or longer, a time when the gaming industry was much smaller. Simcity 2013 had a massive media and advertising campaign, a very well run and oiled machine which hyped the game to be something it never was, i doubt there were these resources back when simcity 4 was released. Apart from this it does not matter if EA thinks its a success, what counts is if I the CUSTOMER yes I AM NUMBER ONE in this equation as they make these games to take my money, not for joy, or pleasure or out of love(like it usto be) believe this game to be a true success and well 80% of people are screaming the same thing it is a BROKEN DISGRACE. A true gauge of how successfull this game is/was would be if EA said ok here is the game if you do not like it return it in 1 week and your money back. Now even casual gamers play for more than a week if the game is half decent. If this was done I for one would have returned the game, and so would that 80%. EA and Maxis have sucker punched people here, like i said made use of the hype, got the pre orders, then well there is no return policy. I wish, i hope and I may even pray that this game is fixed. That they listen to the community and if it means an expansion pack then so be it I will buy it but only if it contains what WE the CUSTOMER wants i.e larger maps(much larger), more buildings, fixed AI, terraforming, offline mode and so on. Oh let me add to that if they think they will release them one by one and make me pay £30 a pop well like george bush said fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me or something along those lines.

Simcity 2000 and Simcity 3000U were great games. Simcity 4 was decent at best due to all the issues original game suffers from. You need to remove all the mods including NAM and watch the numerous bugs cripple your cities and force buildings to be abandoned. You're right but you have to consider that sc4 is far more complex than it's predecessor. so it would eventually justify any launch inconsistency ... We'll anyway I'm sure maxis had a bold project (in the beggining) but to make it real they started castrating each aspect of the game they thought were too complex to develop. They ended up with a child game instead of a city simulator... I've decided to give a third chance to sc13 past week, and decided to create a village with dirty roads with no public services or anything (cash maker) ... you know something funny? Ppl ended up burning the whole city (wtf just because they are poor and uneducated they don't know how to magane a stove or what? lol) ... Actually the bugs I am referring to are still in the game and were only fixed via NAM and other mods. Maxis never fixed Simcity 4 (Remove all the mods if you want to experience the game Maxis built). Simcity 2013 is no less chidlish than the previous Simcitys. Simcity has always had goofy, colorfully, bright, graphics with funny and colorful disasters. Maxis has yet to make a graphically realistic game. If you want a realistic city simulator, then Cities XL is for you. Also uneducated sims in any Simcity will cause trouble for your city in the form of crime, fires, and diseases. Even my University city is profitable thanks to mass regional recycling which massively offsets the budget losses. I have no trouble making my cities profitable in 2013. We should find out soon if Simcity 2013 has finally out sold Simcity 1 (it has already outsold Simcity 4). Just because Simcity13 outsold the other titles doesnt necessarily mean its a good game! Maxis played two sides of the coin here. They used the publicity and anticipation created by previous simcity games, talking about building "cities" and making comparisons to games gone past whilst also at the same time trying to portray the idea that this was not a sequel. They done the latter to cover their backs, as they knew before launch that this game was way to simple. It is effectively a facebook game they have created.

They don't really work. It's all just random tbh.

I have played this game for a week and a half. At first I was having fun. Actually when you first start a new city you have fun. Seeing it grow slowly and look like a village. The fact that 90% of my city has to be residential to satisfy worker needs? The endless looping of buses/ garbage trucks/ sims? The stupidity of water shortages? The ridiculously small map sizes? The bus stops the size of elephants heads? The broken education system? The "i got fired from work" because the whole traffic system is broke? The fact that great works well are useless? The way terrain snaps back to previous states after you demolish a structure? (I mean really WTF) Oh you know what i could just go on and on it would not make a difference. To put it simply, it is broke, and i say that feeling extremely let down. I feel that many others like myself will now stack this game to the shelf and turn their attention to GTA, Rome and the other releases in the run up to christmas. A word to those at Maxis: We know you read these posts. You have made millions from this game but what you have missed out on is the chance to make anything further. The way you have treated this community, picking what you chose to answer and refusing to engage with the community is nothing short of disrespectful. The arrogant tone of media releases and the sheer refusal to correct the wrongs and instead release stupid gimmicks like the simcity launch park is as good as a spit in the face for me. Yes there will be those who try to defend you but the fact that these forums have slowly died down with player numbers set for a massive drop is something you will have to sit down and think about. So thank you again for ruining this wonderful game for a lot of people. Enjoy making some horshoe shaped maps with hills steeper than a coal mine shaf.

There is a town in scotland called Oban. Simcity 2013 would do a good job of simulating that.

Can someone please tell me how to increase the density of your buildings? I have upgraded the roads, have a fully equipped police station, fire station, hospital, school, numerous parks but most my buildings are still tiny little bungalows or 2 story homes. I need more sims as I can't fill the vacant jobs! Thanks.

A really silly question to the modders?
simcopops replied to simcopops's topic in SimCity (2013) Modding - Open Discussion
But then how can we have certain modifiable objects etc? Are they not saved on servers? If you have a moded object does everyone see it as you see it or in it's plain form? Edit to say I don't really care about the legality I have paid £30 for an unfinished product. It's like ordering a pair of jeans from the Internet and having one leg sent. At least with the jeans you can return it to get your money back or use it as a table wipe. -

Why can't you change the city size yet? I mean it's a border and I don't have a clue about programming but can't you just increase the dimensions and that's it done? I don't have a clue about programming so a simple answer will suffice in this case. So frustrated with the tiny tiles !!
