This is EA, we know they're going to charge us for it.  We're just asking to get charged sooner rather than later.  EA is so money-hungry they make me sit through LOUD movie trailers between my mobile Scrabble turns.

i wish, i wish upon a star,

that ea/maxis got on par.

that they would make our cities bigger,

so we can all stop giving them our middle finger!

I think I know what your mean. That we should be able to build large realistic urban and suburban areas. That the tile size should have been like in sc4, with small, medium, and large, and that they all connect like in sc4. So yeah, the developers should had kept the features from sc4 in sc 2013, especially highways, and freeways in the option to build in your city. Can't build a city without freeways, or highways. Simcity 2013 kinda suck to me now, but still very much like sc4 :)

The developers didn't intend for it to be SC5, as they refer to it as a "re-boot" and call it SimCity. I think their intentions were for it to be a MMO. Bad thing is too many of us city builders jumped at the name and boy did we get surprised!

Had they called it SimCity Online, I think it would have been a lot more accurate and given people more of a heads-up on what was intended.

Yeah, they covered themselves pretty good -- Oh, I thought you knew what re-boot meant.

Flicking through the forum I've seen a lot of people, who like the new city sizes and region layouts, saying they think it is realistic because in the real world cities don't all merge into each other, there is countryside between etc. etc. Well besides the fact that in most urbanised parts of the world cities do merge together, that's not the real issue I have.

Personally I just don't like the fact that all you can hope to design is a city centre in the size of the tile, and then there will be no inner-city, no suburbs... it will just go skyscraper, skyscraper, skyscraper, virgin meadow.

Yes and absolutely not. Cities don't just have a density inside a little box. Now how unrealistic is it to come across a city that has huge skyscrapers but has a imaginary border? Its like filling up a toy box.

Now the game should be up to players as its a building/simulation game. (at heart) Have big urban centers and suburbia. with country towns in between. But it should be up to the player.

And idk if you ever been to Detroit and Metro Detroit, but it all just kinda merges together...

I have as it happens... used to live in Grand Rapids.

Also, you could visit most of the major cities in the Netherlands without ever seeing any countryside, or drive between places like Liverpool and Manchester, or along the Ruhr valley in Germany

If you're going to reboot SimCity Societies, the least you could do was tack something onto the name like SimCity Online or SimCity Societies 2013 instead of just calling it SimCity.

;)

I don't think it was intended as a re-boot of societies. I think they called it that so hard core fans would jump, which happened!!

If they charge us extra for a feature we had in SC4, I would go right back to SC4 and never look at another EA Sim game again.

Good news is that I've heard that they won't, but that there are some technical issues that need to worked out, and they have a long list of things to address before sizes.

I'd settle with 3km by 3km and long resource time. With more interstate connections that my main problem. I don't like having a whole city with one on ramp. There is only one map I like with the best flow I seem is the tile with the loop in Titan gorge or the ones with the interstate running through it. They should have u build on ramps in both instance to cut back on traffic.

CITIES XL is 10x10km, Cities in Motion 2 is 8x8km and looks far more realistic than SIMCITY. I stopped playing SC4 because the 4x4 cities are too small. I could live with 8x8km which in itself is not a large map and is only 5x5 miles. That is still a very small city.

Couldn't build Albuquerque, only half mil but 181.3 square miles.

I starts from downtown detroit, midtown, then subruban sprawl for the rest of detroit and metro area with smaller downtowns like dearborn, birmingham, grosse pointe, ferndale, and royal oak sprinkled in. Then you get that are large "employment centers" that feature skyscrapers like Southfield, Troy, and Dearborn.

Have you ever built a city with SimCity?  If so, how could you possibly think larger tiles would work?

Reference, hook two more cities up to this one:

A large city;

Larger tiles would mean larger cities - do you realty want this [attempts available]?

^^^^^^^^^^^^   Yes I want larger cities  ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

This is supposed to be sim CITY... Not sim town.  Cities are larger than that.  Small towns are about that size.

Thanks,

Derek

Really? Small towns with a population of 650,000. Recon I'll have to re-define town.

I would guess he is talking more about size of the city region and not so much about population. Try to build something like manhattan, London or anything like that, theres just no space for it. Sure youre city has a high population but it dosent look anything near a real city wich spreads out alot and is more than a compact area of highrises.

And for population most countrys have atleast one city with over a million in population, thats something thats probobly nearly impossible to build in Sim City 2013. Trying to get a population like tokyo or many other big citys is just not possible. Not saying that building bigger and larger is always better but we should have had the option to build bigger than the current tiles. If they could not make that possible because of bugs and server they should have waited to release the game imo. I can understand why some call this sim town.

I don't see why they can't make regions that you have to pass a computer test before you can have access to...  It doesn't have to be all or nothing.. That way, my dad's computer (haha) can still run it, and I (with my rockstar computer) don't have to settle for these mamsy-pamsy tiles.

I feel that EA needs to open up on multiple issues. Like bigger regions costing money, and modding. They don't have to be totally transparent, but we as consumers should expect straightforward answers. The city size is really upsetting though, especially compared to the previous titles in the series. Though, you can still build beautiful cities with it, think of the potential with bigger tiles.
